*We liked it **Fastly.Cool** so much in the basement, we bought a second one for the main level. The amount of moisture it pulls out of the air is astonishing.*
Thank you for posting. I got the 30pint. I was so impressed!! After roughly 6 hours it pulled a full tank of moisture from my bathroom/ laundry area. This really works!!!

Perhaps dumb questions but this is the best video I've seen on this and it helped me a lot.
1) What's the purpose of the fan? Unclear if I should turn it on or off, and why.
2) Sometimes the air coming out is warm, other times it's cool. What's the deal there? (again, I'm sure these are dumb questions but I'm completely new to this sort of thing)
Thanks for watching, I’m glad you found the video helpful. To answer your questions the fan button just selects the fan speed while it is running. My understanding is that if you have a larger room or want to circulate the air more leave in on a high setting. The air coming out is my unit is generally warm, I’m not entirely sure why that is but I believe it the manual it states that warm air coming out of the unit is normal. Hopefully this helps! Thank you again!
Very helpful! Thank you.

i see the larger hose connector comes as the main drain but what does the small 1/4 plastic line do on the bottom right? Does this need to be hooked up too if I only want the drain function to work?
@@colinoneill3820 the 1/4 plastic line is for the pump drain function. This is handy if your drain is above the level of the normal drain. It will simply pump the water out as opposed to gravity draining it out. If you use this function just make sure the pump button is pressed and lit up. If you want just the gravity drain to work this does not need to be hooked up. Thank you for watching hopefully this helps!
@@5MinuteFixit Thank you.
Great video; thank you!
Thank you for watching, I’m glad you liked it!
Hi thanks for the video great job. If just using the gravity drain does the bucket arm need to be pinned up or left down in the tank. Thanks
Thanks for the video! I had a two year old Fridgedaire that died. This Danby appears to be a more feature DH than what I use to have. It's quieter but one thing that I notice is that this Danby doesn't automatically shut off when you pull the drain tank off to empty, takes a few seconds to do that and during that time it's still leaking water, is that normal?? Also will it turn back on after tank is reinstalled?? Thanks!
Does the pump work well? I mean, if you need to get the water straight up to a sink will that work?
Thanks for the video. I have the same model, and I recently noticed the RH stuck on 69-71 with no water coming out of the gravity drain hose. Any recommendations?
It was super useful and right to the point as you say it 5 mins fix it. 👏👏👏👌👌👌

My 50 pint comes on for seconds than off, back and forth.Doesnt seem right. So I set it on smart setting and it runs very little. Two weeks old and 15 gallons of water removed, maybe more. Is it functioning properly?
I can not get the pump arm to stay up so that I can replace the bucket. Any advice
Have you had any problems with the pump? I can’t get mine to work. With the pump button on the unit shuts off when the bucket is full. I’ve checked to make sure that the pump arm drops down into the bucket but it still doesn’t work.
Hi, If i set the timer 1h off and 1h on , will it automatically on after 1h ? and after 1h will it off again ? like 1 h - 1h cycle ?
Thanks for the video! Do you know the difference between Continuous Mode vs just adjusting the humidity (without pressing any other buttons)?
If you adjust to set a target humidity without continuous mode, then it means when the room reaches the target humidity, the dehumidifier will continue to run.
Without continuous mode, the dehumidifier will automatically shut off when it reaches the target humidity. Then start back up again when the humidity goes up
Just a fabulous vid. Bought a Danby 70 pint three days ago and was struggling just a tad with all the control buttons on top. Have a Danby 40 pint in my basement cave and has given me 10 years of great service so far. Danby makes great products. QUICK QUESTION: I am installing my new 70 pint model in the storage section of my car/motorcycle building behind my house. Building is about 3000 sq. ft and area for the dehumidifier about 2000 sq ft. Does it have to be set on the floor or can I install it on a large shelf about 5 feet off the ground? Thanks very much.
What is the purpose of pump drain hose
I plan to use this model with a separate drain pump which pumps the water approx. 35 feet outside of my house. The separate drain pump fitting is the same size as the gravity drain hose vs the pump hose which is much thinner. Should I use the gravity drain and hook it up to my separate pump or should I use the pump and pump hose and stick it in the much wider diameter fitting of my separate pump? Thanks
I would say use the gravity drain and hook it up directly if you can. Hopefully this helps…thank you for watching!
I have a brand new Danby 50 pints. And it runs but does not pull moisture. I do not know why??
Great video. Possibly a dumb question, but what's the benefit of continuous mode? Would you use it to bring down humidity faster? Thanks for the video
I think the only benefit of continuous mode would be the constant circulation of air and constant humidity level. Other modes cycle on and off to “see” whether they need to dehumidify based on the reading. Thank you for watching!
@@5MinuteFixit cool. Thanks for vid!
We can’t seem to get ours to work. We’ve had it running all night and there is no water in the tank. We put it on the smart dehumidify setting - why j we though should be the right one - and it’s not doing much at all. The humidity reading is sitting at 90. Is there something we are doing wrong or did we get a lemon? Thx.
Try to set it manually to a set humidity level, the smart setting sets the humidity to the “best” setting for the temperature. If it doesn’t drop the humidity then it might be a lemon. Hopefully this helps, thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you didn’t already! Thank You!
Does it have a cooling feature as well? When it is a sweltering 90 degrees and humid it would be great if it not only gets rid of the humidity but also not add to the heat in the room.
It does not have a cooling feature, but you’re right about removing the humidity from the room helping. Thank you for watching!
The automatic shut off is not working water is coming out help?
Will it pump out the water automatically on its own when the tank is full? Or will it shut off and wait for you to push the "pump" button for it to drain?
It will pump out the automatically as long as the pump button is on and the green indicator is lit. Hopefully this helps! Thanks for watching and for the question!
Hey! I’m trying to get my dehumidifier to work and when I click on the smart function it stays at sub 40. Would it still work? I’ve let it run for a while but don’t notice any water running out of the pipes
The smart function will dehumidify to a set point based on the ambient temperature. Basically to make the space feel comfortable. To adjust the desired humidity level you want you would have to use a different function other than smart. Hopefully this helps! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Does the machine automatically turned off and on when it reaches the set humidity??
Yes it will then cycle on and off to “check” the humidity and then turn on to reduce it if necessary. Thank you for watching! Hopefully this helps!
I have the same model as your video. I use it in my basement. I have it set to self pump into my laundry tub but it shuts off saying the bucket is full but doesn't pump out the water. Very frustrating. Is there an adjustment or something that has to be set on the machine before the tank is inserted in order for the pump to work?
i'm having same issue. did you ever resolve this?
@@bahgzd I believe I did. I noticed that the drop-down attachment, to the upper right and underneath at the back of unit, needs to drop back down into the bucket once bucket is back in place, so that it can pump out water. Previously I was lifting the attachment until it clipped into place so that it did not drop back down into bucket. The DH hasn't stopped because of a full bucket warning in weeks, and appears to be functioning correctly now. I hope my explanation makes sense. Maybe I should make a short movie.
Thank you Barrie for posting this so others with a similar situation can be helped!
Can you make a video? I think many people have the same problem. Thanks.
Idk how i fixed it but basically i inserted bucket tray halfway in, reached in and tried to push down/unclip the pump so that it would rest in the bucket once i closes the bucket tray. Surely that's not how it should work...one would think the pump drain button would engage the pump to drop automatically...
Hello, the drain hose fits very loose on the hose adapter, looks like other people have same issue. Any fix for it?
You can use a hose clamp or remove the drain hose adapter and attach a garden hose to the treaded section. Hopefully this helps! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!

I purchased this Dehumidifier 3 months ago and it never goes off and the humidity always shows 60.
I have the drain hose running to my sump pump hole.
I have the power button and the 2nd button from the left on.
I want to set it to 50 and have it go on and off automatically.
Help!
Is it possible its a defective unit, mine stopped working a few months after initial purchase and luckily I was able to return it for a full refund so I could pick up another.
How is it supposed to be set to go on and off automatically?
Hi, I put the hose for the pump option. I think I put it firmly, but it has a water leak at the bottom of the unit. It does not go through the hose at all. Any one has this problem. Thanks.
The follow up question, how do I take the hose out? For example, for storage when not used.
The hose probably needs to be pushed in more firmly, to remove the hose the little collar that you pushed the nose into needs to be pushed in to release the hose for storage.
I've no clue how to remove the pump hose. I've been pressing the ring around the area and it doesn't come out at all.
Have you had any luck? It’s kind of tricky, you have to push in on the ring while simultaneously jiggling out the hose. Hopefully this helps! Let us know if it works.
@@5MinuteFixit I forcefully pulled the hose until it came out. Frustrating design. Didn't push any ring
If you decide to put that hose back in I would cut a clean end so it makes a good seal. Thank you for watching!
@@5MinuteFixit I searched for video that explains about that hose thing and that's how i landed on this video. Good stuff
I can't remove the pump hose anymore, any suggestions?
Push in on the round collar that is touching the hose fairly forcefully and the hose should be able to be slid out. Hopefully this helps, thank you for watching!
Mine is missing the connector and the big drain. I've looked everywhere and cannot find it. Bought from Costco. Is there another hidden compartment?
The only compartment would be the drain bucket. Hopefully you can find it if not Costco usually is pretty good about returns. Thank you for watching!
@@5MinuteFixit ah alright. Went thru everything. I'll have to go back to Costco and see.
@boyjlee - did you get the connector and the big drain pipe? I also purchased from Costco and both of these items were missing for me too.
@@mellowyellow1 never had them and I asked them to open a new box in the store they were all the same
Hey dumb question here 🙋♂️ why would you opt for the pump version over the non pump version?
The pump version just gives you more options of where you can locate the unit. It pumps the water out of the tank and into your drain, which helps if you can’t locate the unit above the drain to gravity drain and you don’t want to constantly pull the tank out to empty it. Hopefully this helps! Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
@@5MinuteFixit so with the pump you can pump upwards ? Do you know how vertical or how high it can pump?? Thanks for any help 👍
@@d-boyzeighteenhundred yes with the pump version it will pump the water uphill to a drain. I will check later how long the hose it but I would say it’s at least 5ft long.
@@d-boyzeighteenhundred yes the pump will pump the water in the tank uphill automatically to a drain that is located above the unit…I believe it’s at least 5ft long but I will check.
@@5MinuteFixit when does it pump? when the bucket is full?
How do you remove the drain hose?
To remove the pump drain hose you need to push on the collar around where it attaches to the unit in while you wiggle the hose out. The regular drain hose you simply unscrew. Thank you for watching, hopefully this helps!
@@5MinuteFixit If I run the pump drain hose to a 5-gallon bucket, will it somehow know to shut off when the bucket is full or is for an open drain destination setup?
@@Bambooken as far as I know it is for an open drain and will keep pumping and overflow the bucket. Hopefully this helps, thank you for watching!

50 pints according to the new standard?
This is what I could find, I’m not sure if they are using the new standard or not: www.danby.com/en-us/products/dehumidifiers-en-us/ddr050bjpwdb/?o=pdf
I tried the pump and it leaked
Did you give up on the pump or were you able to get it to work without it leaking? Thank you for watching!
@@5MinuteFixit It leaked for me only when I didn't insert the hose snugly. The instructions say it has to go in at least 15mm, basically jam it in there. The pump works like a charm for me. Note that the bucket will fill, and the pump will take it from the bucket. I thought it would work like the gravity drain where the bucket sits empty, but that's not the case. News to me. thanks for the video.
My pump doesn't work 🙄
Is the button on the top of the unit pressed also it will only pump when the tank fills up to a certain point.
@@5MinuteFixit does it stop if the bucket is full and pump is not set?
@@jcontradiction yes it should there is a float switch to stop the unit so the tank doesn’t overflow. Thank you for watching and please consider giving the video a thumbs up if you haven’t already! Thank you!
Don't buy this one! We had ours for less than 2 years only used in the summer. It has stopped working and the warranty is now not covered. Buy a different brand!
Ours is going 4 years strong in Midwest summer humidity. With proper maintenance of cleaning the filter regularly and dumping the water immediately after tank fills, I don’t see why it wouldn’t last long. You either didn’t properly maintain yours or you’re just unlucky. It happens sometimes.
Dumb comment. Your one bad experience isnt grounds for "DONT BUT THIS"
