i appreciated this video. i thought you were full of shit before when you hadn't heard this song and you kept skipping it....i liked the reaction and i liked what you said afterwards. i went from thinking this was full of shit to being my favorite reaction to the song. but what you said afterwards was what affected me the most. when something affects us so much, it's hard to put those feelings in to words or even the meaning in to words. it runs THAT deep. and if we were to sum things up in 5 minutes, the words wouldn't do anything justice. some people may think it was too much talking, i think it was just enough. it was long but justified in my opinion. also, i've listened to this song many many times and i still get tears in my eyes. i am not even a fan of metal or disturbed. i am a classic rock guy. after hearing this song for the first time, i was compelled to do some research on the singer. what a great guy. i love that guy! just the history of his life and how he turned out humble with good morals and values and caring and loving person. hard worker. determined to make it. and just the creativity that goes in to making a song like this tells a lot about a person. the patience and the time it had to have taken to make it almost perfection. this ranks up there with some of the historic classic rock songs i love. if we are going to critique it and be asshole about it, yea, i give it a 9.7 or close to it too....but this song is easily a 10 when it's just about the music and i don't give 10's but this is a 10. i am so happy for this dude because as a metal singer he's not going to get all the recognition he actually deserves but this song put him on the map and i don't thinka cover has ever been done better when there are only a select few covers just as good or better than the original.
anyway, i really appreciated your reaction video here. and i laughed so hard when i heard the pigs man. this is the first time on your channel and that shit was funny! good job with everything and wish ya continued success with this channel! as far as listening to this song for the first time in years, well it's always better late than never.

most people never even heard of disturbed before this song was playing all over the internet and the world. you sound like your a fan boy who just has stars in his eyes. hell, most people don't even like metal music and that's another thing that attracted people to this song not to mention the lyrics which weren't even written by disturbed. they may be good but not THAT good. show me some lyrics they wrote that were that good or better. albums come and go but a great songs forever lasts in the hearts of people. and that's what this song did. you can uploay disturbed all you want and downplay the fact that this song put them on the map....doesn't make it true...haha

From Pink Floyd to Nine Inch Nails for ten bucks at a bar in the early 90's. Disturbed has been around for years and the concerts they put on were packed with people before they did Simon and Garfunkel's song. I saw them with Bush, Stone temple pilots, Godsmack, disturbed Alice in Chins ooh and The Cult. Now the song has brought in a new set of people I will give you that but as far as putting them on the map they were already on the map. Just because you just heard of them does not mean they were not out there selling out concerts already.

According to Ultimate Classic Rock, when Disturbed performed the cover on Conan. Simon sent Draiman an e-mail praising the cover. “Really powerful performance on Conan the other day,” Simon wrote. “First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice, Thanks.”
Draiman responded. “Mr. Simon, I am honored beyond words,” he wrote. “We only hoped to pay homage and honor to the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Your compliment means the world to me/us and we are eternally grateful.”

After hearing this Paul Simon said this song belongs to David Draiman now. the Simon and Garfunkel version was a plea to humanity to change its ways, this is the ANGER at humanity for not heeding the warnings originally voiced. this is just about as close to perfect as a song can be, it is not a cover it is the true successor to the original song by Simon and Garfunkel. 🤘🫀🧠 and soul 🤘

    • @RoadLessTraveledMedia
      @RoadLessTraveledMedia Před 2 lety +30

you know, you totally nailed the analysis between both, and that's why I love it so much. The song is timeless - first a plea, then anger at failure to heed. Dramond's rendition is simply more relevant to our circumstance, and not at all to detract from Simon and Garfunkel (whom I love). But being someone born in the early 80s, this one resonates with me slightly more

Now I look for reactions because it makes me feel like I’m sharing something so ethereally beautiful… some reactions just don’t feel right. Others, such as this, are exactly why I look for re-listening with someone. I hear the surprised appreciation and anticipation and hear myself saying “Wait! I love it when a metal fan is so touched by this version of Sound of silence that he starts crying.
Most of us cried and cried.
    I could NOT stop crying.
I'm in my late 50's and I grew up with the S and G version.
I've never listened to the lyrics because the original is soooo boring to listen to.
No build up, no surprises at all.
    Then, I found this version.
OH MY, David MADE me listen.
His voice, the build up, the lyrics, the video, everything is SOOOOO perfect.
David is telling a story here, an important one and he's getting angrier and angrier towards the end, because ppl did NOT listen since S and G warned us 8n the 60's the Neon God ppl had made. (TV, watching TV and not communicating anymore after a hard day of work coming together at home)
Now, with the internet and so called Social Media (not social at all imo) ppl can't even communicate anymore at all. Really talking qand really listening to eachother.
Imo, ppl are monkeys, shouting, screaming, yelling nasty words at eachother through their PC/Phone/Tablet keybord iso communicate eye to eye and LISTEN.
Reading body language and facial expressions is important. .
The Neon God is the internet now, not TV anymore.
Great lyrics and sooooo true and this version? PERFECT.
Goosebumps and tears everytime I'm listening and watching this PERFECTLY MADE video.
Paul Simon told Disturbed "this is a Disturbed song now" and many artists had already covered it.
I also dig the censorship, because that's also true.
But S and G meant TV in the 60's.
    Thank you for your reaction.
It was pure, honest and I couldn't agree more with what you've said.
Greetings from the Netherlands!!! (With the WEF puppet PM and Goverment)

Thank you for not trying to hide or diminish the emotional impact this had on you. Like you, I grew up to the Simon and Garfunkel version and to me, the song was sacred ground; one where fools must never tread. The first time I heard this, I was in the shop. A natural workaholic, my hands just keep working through the music playing in the background, but this day something unexpected happened, I heard "hello darkness my old friend" with a piano. I stopped dead in my tracks and started to listen. At the beginning of the 3rd verse, I had to sit down. It literally took my breath away, by the end I was an emotional wreck. Glad to see other men that had that same bomb drop reaction I did.
Songs like this are part of the soundtrack of our youth and to hear it redone in such a beautiful and respectful way is nothing short of miraculous. Your rant at the end really resonated with me as a musician because I ultimately ended up abandoning music after our music program got cut for a new football stadium.

I've heard this song now about a thousand times since I first saw it early 2022. I cry every single time. That voice is both an angel and demon.
I get hit the most in the last line when he sings Sounnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd of silence. How he holds that last sound then goes instantly silent I just lose it. It's a sign of a true masterpiece if it can affect your emotions so much.
Watching your go redder and redder the more it hit you is the same way it hit me. I'm a 56 year old guy and not ashamed to admit I feel the same way.
I've also noticed that it's more a male thing to cry for this, out of all the times I've seen it a few women have cried but men make up the majority.

And THANK YOU so much for showing us how it affected you!! Thank you for not editing your silences and thoughtful moments as you took in the music. For me, all of that really makes this a true reaction video. And I really like your interpretation that the song is about censorship; I'd never thought of it that way, but it makes sense! I really enjoyed this video; thank you! Edit: Also, I totally cried during this song.

The first time I heard Disturbed sing this I was ASTONISHED! The composition is a masterpiece of arrangement, storytelling, and performance. This was so well done. David started with a soft and intimate, almost nostalgic, and conversational tone, and gradually built up with each verse, introducing new elements along the way. At times his voice was that of an angel and a devil. The song, as he performed it, has a spiritual quality that carries profound meaning and leaves the listener knowing they have just witnessed something transcendent.

I've been watching and listening this music for the last 12 hours and the countless 'reaction' to the Conan and the original video (didn't know this 'reaction' was a thing on YT either). Your reaction is the closest to my first reaction to this song when I first stumbled on it accidentally last night. I'm an ex music producer/engineer and I must say this was the most powerful 4 minutes of music I've EVER heard, cover or original, professionally or personally. This music delivers the truth to perfection; even the slightest minor imperfections adds to the impact it delivers. Truly an amazing performance, especially the Conan live version. The only thing better than hearing this song for the first time back when I first heard it on the album release, was a year or two back in 2019 when I caught Disturbed live with 'In this moment' at a VERY small Wilkes-Barre PA location. It was literally a standing room crowd, and I recall standing just below the stage at what amounted to an auditorium within maybe 10-15 feet of David Draiman as he belted this out.
Some things are beautiful, some are amazing. Some experiences... I hate to say it, but they border on the religious. This was one of those times. This is a man that can SING. For a few moments out of our daily lives, the several hundred people in that auditorium became one mass of people, and you FELT everything that separates us from our fellow people melt away for one beautiful, short moment of space. I don't know how to word it better than that. Everyone in that crowd was bawling, or singing along, or both. He'd break into 'The Vengeful One' or 'Stupify', and we were all in a frenzy, raging, angry animals. He broke into 'Prayer', and we all bobbed our heads or moshed around. Damn few concerts I've seen that are THIS intense in the current day.

They didn't realize it at the time, but they did. Simon and Garfunkle's version never made me cry. Like this one does. I would love to hear them cover Bridge Over Troubled Water. About the emotion..... apparently this song had the same effect on David Draimen.

That song really hit me too, when I first listened to it last year. You're not the only one to cry. Also that message in the music video, of music being silenced, is what got me back into singing. I had stopped singing for some years, partly because I didn't really have time for lessons or a choire anymore, and also because I was shy and felt embarrassed about neighbors maybe hearing me practice. But then I heard that song, and saw that video. And I cried for maybe an hour and then I started singing again and only then realized how much I had missed it. Now, a year later, I sing almost every day. No neighbor has ever complained. And to me, it just feels so good to have that in my life again.
So, in a way, Disturbed's interpretation of that song brought another voice back from the silence.

I'm 67 yrs old. Had not even heard of Disturbed before, but had heard the original version by Simon and Garfunkel when it first came out. I was impressed at that time by the song because of the deep meaning in the lyrics. My daughter in law played this version for me. All I could do is tear up and say Wow! I completely agree with the way this reviewer sees this version. Simon and Garfunkel gave us a gentle warning... David Draiman, in a very beautiful way, slapped us in the face and said "well, look what has happened... ". Bravo, Disturbed. You have a new fan.

As a musician, I wanna give you a slow clap for the perfect pitch. Also may I add, absolutely nothing wrong with music brining emotions. When done right, it’s a beautiful thing.

Love this version, I do not know anyone that does not feel the emotion of this. David Draiman is full of passion when he sings this. To see and hear this played live with the huge copper timpani drums is amazing, unforgettable!!!

Aside from the vocal skills, he clearly feels he understands the song's message and wants to forward it passionately.

This song was prophetic when released in 1963- it speaks truly now to the disconnect of society; I really appreciate your so honest reaction to this song. Never be embarrassed by the tears music brings: I have a song by John McDermott called "Green Fields of France' which i cannot listen to without crying.
