    This has to be the single best tech question video I have ever watched. The language was concise without oversimplifying, and was clearly penned with the layman in mind. I knew I was in a treat when you preempted the explanation with "there is a lot to go through here" and then I realized the runtime of the entire video is less than FOUR MINUTES. Truly, not all heroes wear capes. Thank you!

    Thank you! So glad I came looking for this answer you provided. I was just about ready to start "dumping" (uninstalling) what looked to me like a lot of extras of this. Your explanation was crystal clear.
    So, I didn't uninstall any of them, and consequently am NOT now experiencing a bunch of failures on my computer as a result. Thank God for tech geeks!

    Excellent I always wondered what these Microsoft visual redistributable were and were they needed. I was about to delete the old ones and keep the new ones. Glad I first looked for a video about it. Now I know they maybe to help run older programs on my computer system. And, as they take up little space. I will leave them alone. Thank you for getting right to the point, saving us time. Many video here on You Tube; the presenters talk for ages. That can usually be summed up in just a few short sentences.

    Great Video! I will mention one scenario where it becomes annoying. In the corporate/enterprise world there are extra layers to think about. Essentially, the security behind the libraries. For example, a vulnerability scanner we use has detected that C++ Redistributable for 2010 (both x86 and x64) are no longer supported by Microsoft since 2020. So I can uninstall it, but there is a chance an application will stop working all together as the developer of the third-party application hasn't changed anything on their end. I won't necessarily know this as I see no way of seeing what installed apps reference what library. I'm hoping in the future, Microsoft maybe finds a way to make it easier to see what apps use what libraries as we can't keep old things especially if vulnerabilities are associated with them.

    • @OpenGL4ever
      @OpenGL4ever Před 2 měsíci

      There is a way to find out. Windows Prof does offer a way to monitor folders. Simply enable folder monitoring for all folders where the C++ redistributables are installed and then start one application after the other. This should help you find out which application is accessing which C++ redistributable version.

    Hi , our project uses Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package which is obsolete now , The system is at high risk of being exposed to security vulnerabilities. Since the vendor no longer provides updates, obsolete software is more vulnerable to viruses and other attacks. Customers have been advised to update to latest version of Microsoft VC++ Redistributable. Update would be helpful or is it the tedious process ? and how to proceed any suggestions

    • @OpenGL4ever
      @OpenGL4ever Před 2 měsíci

      This is a misconception: Outdated software is not more vulnerable. In fact, if outdated software is vulnerable, then it has always been vulnerable. It has had the vulnerability practically since day one. The only difference is that the vulnerability is publicly known.
