  • This first ride is with a 100A Temporary battery, so power is down. The final battery will be 76V 480A (60AH).

    Hi Donald! What dimensions is your final battery for this bike?
    Also specifications would be good to know as I’m doing the exact same build on my 04’ CRF
    I have the same motor and controller.

      We haven't ordered the battery Yet. TJ from Houston got his battery from ElectroandCompany.com It fit his 2003 450CRF. It is there 76V 21S12P 48ah battery 8.25" x 6.25" x 13" size. See his build at this location electricdirtriders.com/threads/starting-my-bike-build.3386/ We are talking with Amorge right now about a 20S13P battery the same size as above with Samsung 50S cells. 65AH and about the same price.

    Do you cut the zip tie for the gearbox vent line? Is there any downside of doing this? I’ve seen people with and without it zip tied

      It is supposed to be the breather for the oil in the Motor gearbox reduction. Some believe that it does not work, I believe that it does work and is necessary.

    Hey, Donald. Perhaps you could help me understand something with batteries and verify my calculations.
    If I used Samsung 21700 5,000mAh 25 amp (no temp cut) batteries in a 20s8p (5,000mah x 20s x 8p x 3.6v = 2.88kwh) set up, is that only safe for (8p x 25amp)=200 amps? Or could I run the controller at, say 350 amps, because it is only drawing that kind of amps for a small percentage of the time?
    Just including my math to verify my understanding of this stuff is correct. I'm new to this haha

      Hey good question Kyle. We have just done these same calculations. The Samsung cells will, or can give you 350 to 400A for short periods, according to people who have used them. But the Molicel P42A can do it with less heat. Cost is similar, but we find heat is a problem in summer riding and hard riding. We place the BMS outside the battery box, to keep it cooler for the charge cycle, we use the BMS for Charge only control, not Discharge control. The motor controller shuts the bike off at low voltage (slows down at 65 and shuts off at 59V).. If you are going to build a battery for endurance or longer running at lower currents, the Samsung are a better choice. but for harder riding and hotter conditions, the Molicel's are our choice.

      @@dcoxryton I appreciate the response. Heat management isn't something I had considered. I've mostly been thinking about power density and weight.

    Hey Donald how are you? , do you have another motor mount for my 2009 crf 450?

    • @dcoxryton
      @dcoxryton  Před měsícem +1

      No I don't. But you can get one from Lithium-king.com and here is the page on the website. For the $149 he can build custom ones www.lithium-king.com/custom-motor-mounts-for-qs138-70h-v3

    Would you say that this is better than the em260sgtp or the previous em260/2sp

    • @dcoxryton
      @dcoxryton  Před 4 měsíci

      I am not sure. This one is a EM260SGTP on the Honda. My YZ250F has the EM260SP/2 and it does 400A all day long without fault. I have used the new controller on quite a few bikes. They all run 400A just fine. Supposedly they can run at 500A, I haven't tried that yet, but when I get the final battery on this Honda I may try it.

      @@dcoxryton The truth is that I have doubts... I think that the em260sp/2 has more response in phases around 800A and the GTP, if I'm not mistaken, only 600A in phases, which would be the same with an Em200Sp/2... anyway, in Sp is already discontinued and they only have the GTP. Very good constructions Donald!!

    Hello friend!
    What is the autonomy of this battery?
    do you have whatasaap?

    • @dcoxryton
      @dcoxryton  Před dnem

      The battery in this ride is from a KTM Freeride, 2000mah cells the can deliver 25A. I get 120A out of this test battery for a short time. It is a 20S5P battery. Look at the newer CZcams with the real battery in it. I can push 400A for a while. 300 A for about 12 laps on like Glen Helen, the big track. I don;t have Whatasaasp, or Whatsapp, but start a Conversation on ElectricDirtRiders.com with me and I can share info.

    How many bikes have you converted?

    • @dcoxryton
      @dcoxryton  Před 4 měsíci +2

      About 15 with the QS138 70H V3 motor. I have helped a couple other guys to build about another 15, and I built about 5 others with Motoenergy motors since about 2011. These new ones are so fun. I was dicing it out at Glen Helen last week with a young kid (69 year old, I am 79), on his new Stark. We were close in power, but no question he had more power on tap, and I was tapped out.
