In the previous CZcams the bike stopped due to overheating Controller. It appears to be set at 70 Degree C, and it cannot be adjusted , as far as I know. I am putting a water cooler on it this week. After these 2 laps, it went from 55 Degrees C to 66 degrees C. Todays temperature was in the high 80'S F

Thanks a bunch to Casey and Bob Casper for dialing in the suspension on this bike. The bike controller overheated after riding all afternoon. I had plans to watercool this guy, but now it is mandatory. Summer is here in So Cal. I also put a different Gear reduction in this bike since the main output bearing fell apart, and replaced the main output bearing with a SKF 6004 sealed bearing, and the...

How do you know where do mount the motor? How much tolerance is there if any?
It is pretty straight forward. Sprocket center level with the swing arm bolt center. 3.5-4" center to center. Make sure the rear wheel is straight in the swing arm, measure at the adjusters. Then use a straight edge from the rear sprocket to the new motor sprocket. Make sure the motor is level to the frame, side to side.
Hey Donald how are you? , do you have another motor mount for my 2009 crf 450?
No I don't. But you can get one from Lithium-king.com and here is the page on the website. For the $149 he can build custom ones www.lithium-king.com/custom-motor-mounts-for-qs138-70h-v3
Thankyou sir!

Hi Donald, How can I message you privately regarding obtaining some of your expertise?
The easiest way is go to "Electricdirtriders.com" and start a Conversation with me. It works real well for pics, videos, and info. I'd be happy to help.
Sir please send me any middrive motor 3kw
Another cool build Don, congrats! After a few minor updates like securing that battery down tighter, diagnosing the controller sound, throwing a few more zip-ties on the bars/controls, and adding a handlebar pad you'll have it race ready 👍 PS: Tilt that camera angle up a bit more next time, call it a 'test' for me!
Thanks Casey I have done all of those except the Handlebar Pad. I will get one before I get on the track again. I had thought about that too.
Hi Donald! What dimensions is your final battery for this bike? Also specifications would be good to know as I’m doing the exact same build on my 04’ CRF I have the same motor and controller.
We haven't ordered the battery Yet. TJ from Houston got his battery from ElectroandCompany.com It fit his 2003 450CRF. It is there 76V 21S12P 48ah battery 8.25" x 6.25" x 13" size. See his build at this location electricdirtriders.com/threads/starting-my-bike-build.3386/ We are talking with Amorge right now about a 20S13P battery the same size as above with Samsung 50S cells. 65AH and about the same price.
What battery are you running here? I’ve been putting off my cr125 build because i need a battery. I’d gladly use a test battery for now just to get it going
I had a Freeride battery with some bad cell groups. I took it apart and used some for for a KX100 electric 72V 20AH and I used the rest to make a 72V10AH, good for 100A. Send your requirements and size dimensions to Amorge They are the cheapest. info@amorge.com
Wow that looks like a great ride.
It has been a fun build. These bikes are soooooo fun
Love your builds, have you ever considered using the NMC Pouch Cell's will give you more ah per cell and higher discharge.
I have only once tried Pouch cells. I have been using the 21700 cells now for a few years, and they perform quite well, and I am familiar with them. I don't see a lot of people like the Surron and Talaria Hi performance batteries, using the pouches. But mostly the 21700 cells. I can get a real 500A out a 20S12P and it will run a Amateur Moto, 6 laps like at Glen Helen, on about 50% battery. The complete bike weighs 240lbs. We also waterjet fuses for each cell built into the bus bar system.
@@dcoxryton fair points thanks, Id be keen to see these water jet cut fuses also what size battery would you recommend for single track 40km loops
@@nu77byte49 If you go to ElectricDirtRiders.com and start a conversation with me, I can post some pics of our battery builds. You can't post pics on here. I just did a 21mile single track ride, and I think I had another 5 miles of battery. That is with a 20S12P Molicel P42A cells. I built a 2017 KTM with a 20S16P Molicel P42A cells, and he has gotten 40 miles out of that on single track.

How comparable is this going to be to a 250f
This will be very similar to the 250 in power. It is really fun to ride. My YZ with this motor controller was as fast as the 350SXF we were riding with last week.
Did you end up having the grind out any bits of the frame to get the motor and battery to fit in there? Just dropped my frame for powder coating and starting to worry that I should have fit everything first.
At the top you will have to do a little grinding at the top rear corners
Cool! What did you record this on to get the Square format? I like it

Hi Donald im about the enbark on a electric trail bike build here in Sydney Australia, i need to get the bike engineered to pass strict australian design rules if i wish to use it on the road here, have you worked with 90H QS138 supplier is stating same size yet 4kw vs 3kw rated compared to 70H ? thanks for the videos and tips, i intend on using a 260S
I haven't built with that motor, the 90H, but if you are going to use the EM260S controller, you will end with the same horsepower , being limited by 40-450A at 72V. The 70H motor is 1" narrower. The 90H mess's with the rear brake pedal. Have you motor mount water jetted by Lithium-King.com. Just give him a few measurements, and he can make them out of any material ( Aluminum, Stainless, Titanium etc. He only does it for the QS138 70H V3 motor
@dcoxryton thanks Donald so I stick with 70H from a width point. They state the 70H is rated 3kw, do you know what kW or hp you getting from this motor with 260s and 72v batteries, I plan on getting Kenny at amorge batteries to make my power pack
@@davecarter34 With the Em260S, you can pump 400A to either motor. 72V times 400A = 28.8KW or about 38.4 HP. You will need a battery to supply 400A for a while. What bike you put it in determines how much battery. A 20S16P battery will give you about 40 miles of single track. A 20S20P is 25% more. Amorge is a good place to get your battery.
What is the battery specs and how much range do you get?
The battery will probably be a 20S12P Molicel P42A cells. This is good for about 10 laps on a moto track, i just got a 20 mile single track ride with about 5 miles left in that size battery. I am going to make it quick change at that size, but I could fit a 20S16P in the space.
Wild build

How do you feel about the Fardriver controller...just picked up a 02 250sx roller will start cleanup for swap
I have not used a Fardriver. Don't know anything about them.
Nice build. I don't remember if you used the same throttle system in your Yz's but I have used several Chinese ones finding this one you have on this ktm the smoothest, although bulkiest, of all of them. What do you think?
I don't use this throttle on the track bikes, because it is bulky, and we don't need the switches. But you are right this is a very smooth throttle. It works well for a street bike for all the controls.
how easy is it to convert a 2013 yz250f with one of these and how much is it? top speed? how long does battery last
The Motor and controller installation is pretty easy. The Battery space limits how big a battery you can put into it. The 2013 YZ250F was the last year of the early Aluminum frames. Space is limited to about 20S12P (50AH , good for about 25-30 mile of single track) The 2014 YZ250F opens up to a quick change battery, kind of like the Surron. A battery about the same size and range, it just can be swapped. There are some new batteries that can give you more range, but you lose on the Higher current and power, if that is what you want.
Top speed can vary, at the expense of low end power. 60-70MPH
i have a 2013 yz250f how does this work do you send it a place and they do it? do you buy the parts online and you have to do it yourself? how much is it? i am very curious
Here is a rough estimate of a build. Motor and controller form China direct. $900, Motor and Controller kit from ElectroandCompany.com, $1500. There is value in E&C with there software and support, and an easy to put together kit. To do the work of putting a bike together I charge $1000-1500. a 20S12P battery for this bike is $2000-2500, battery charger and case. So you are right at what I am asking for the KTM and you could sell the Yamaha. I helped a guy in Utah with his build of a 2008 YZ450F, He got a bigger battery in it. 20S16P. Check out his build. electricdirtriders.com/threads/2008-yz450f-electric-conversion.3570/#post-38296

Hey, Donald. Perhaps you could help me understand something with batteries and verify my calculations. If I used Samsung 21700 5,000mAh 25 amp (no temp cut) batteries in a 20s8p (5,000mah x 20s x 8p x 3.6v = 2.88kwh) set up, is that only safe for (8p x 25amp)=200 amps? Or could I run the controller at, say 350 amps, because it is only drawing that kind of amps for a small percentage of the time? Just including my math to verify my understanding of this stuff is correct. I'm new to this haha
Hey good question Kyle. We have just done these same calculations. The Samsung cells will, or can give you 350 to 400A for short periods, according to people who have used them. But the Molicel P42A can do it with less heat. Cost is similar, but we find heat is a problem in summer riding and hard riding. We place the BMS outside the battery box, to keep it cooler for the charge cycle, we use the BMS for Charge only control, not Discharge control. The motor controller shuts the bike off at low voltage (slows down at 65 and shuts off at 59V).. If you are going to build a battery for endurance or longer running at lower currents, the Samsung are a better choice. but for harder riding and hotter conditions, the Molicel's are our choice.
@@dcoxryton I appreciate the response. Heat management isn't something I had considered. I've mostly been thinking about power density and weight.
The KTM Freeride was very interesting! Where can I see more about modifications made?

Do you cut the zip tie for the gearbox vent line? Is there any downside of doing this? I’ve seen people with and without it zip tied
It is supposed to be the breather for the oil in the Motor gearbox reduction. Some believe that it does not work, I believe that it does work and is necessary.
Hey bro, how did you create the geometry of the bracket to mount the engine to the frame? Is this bracket sold somewhere or did you design it yourself?
Lithium-Kimg.com built it for me. Give him a few simple measurement, ( but you must be accurate), and he will get them made for you.
Would you say that this is better than the em260sgtp or the previous em260/2sp
I am not sure. This one is a EM260SGTP on the Honda. My YZ250F has the EM260SP/2 and it does 400A all day long without fault. I have used the new controller on quite a few bikes. They all run 400A just fine. Supposedly they can run at 500A, I haven't tried that yet, but when I get the final battery on this Honda I may try it.
@@dcoxryton The truth is that I have doubts... I think that the em260sp/2 has more response in phases around 800A and the GTP, if I'm not mistaken, only 600A in phases, which would be the same with an Em200Sp/2... anyway, in Sp is already discontinued and they only have the GTP. Very good constructions Donald!!
How many bikes have you converted?
About 15 with the QS138 70H V3 motor. I have helped a couple other guys to build about another 15, and I built about 5 others with Motoenergy motors since about 2011. These new ones are so fun. I was dicing it out at Glen Helen last week with a young kid (69 year old, I am 79), on his new Stark. We were close in power, but no question he had more power on tap, and I was tapped out.
One cuestión, if you spend less money than you would on a gasoline one ?
Emmaual, you haven't ridden an electric dirt bike, have you? We take mostly retired dirt bikes, like 2014 YZ250F and 2005 Honda CRF450, and 2023 CRF250 bike and convert them to electric power. It is a different power, and feel. I put an electric bike back on the track with electric and it puts smiles on peoples faces. They just add another element to the dirt bike riding experience
