KTM - ABS and Cornering ABS Explained | Motorcycle Stability Control

  • Motorcycle Stability Control ensures more safety while braking. MSC is based on an angle-and-tilt ‘philosophy’ to ensure that the rider is supported in ALL situations under braking. Not only during slowing down and acceleration in a straight line but also in corners while leant over. MSC also reduces the uplift when braking hard in corners to help keep a tighter line. The additional electronic control of brake distribution between the two wheels ensures that the braking forces are applied as smoothly as possible and the motorcycle is further stabilized.
    Cornering ABS has a complex and difficult job. It must determine not only wheel speeds, but also cornering forces and lean angles, and constantly and rapidly calculate what proportion of full braking force, called for by the rider, may be applied to the individual brakes. This requires accurate and fast-acting sensors, computing power, and actuators, along with complex software.

Too fast, not enough attention, not enough skill, it's the squid way. Stupid quick, unskilled, ignorant and dangerous. Picking a bike with ABS over one without is a good sign that maybe you're not one of these people, as you've chosen to pay extra for a safety feature.

    I my opinion, abs allow more people to ride a motorcycle with less training. But I'm convinced that a pro rider could corner and stop a motorcycle just as good with or without abs or at least really small difference.
    And what happens when the technology fails, which it most certainly will sooner rather than later. Less tech = less stuff that can go wrong. My advice is to learn to ride a motorcycle with minimal tech. That way, you will have muscle memory for whenever something do go wrong and better suited to handle any situation.

    It's just a sale ...
    At hi speeds a required skill is to know how to make your rear tire spin slightly slower than the front one it's hard.
    I think abs disconnects you from the tires just like on a car it's all about skills and practice not abs ..
    ?question
    Can you make a skid like when we where 7 years old. On a abs?

    • @ah7027
      @ah7027 Před 4 lety

      the real question is why would you want to skid on your bike. that's the least efficient way to break. If your tire isnt spinning it takes longer to stop.

      Griffin Muffin you know why right? It's cheaper to pay an Indian engineer than an Austrian engineer that's why they do that. My VW is the same way, made in Germany, assembled in Mexico because they can pay Mexicans minimum wage to assemble the car rather than paying thier own workers 5x+ that amount, same with india.

    I had never ABS and I never fell down. Rode in city rush hours and on highways and in rain and on ice on all kinds of bikes. Human body and brain is very smart system better than any ABS. Once it is trained then there is no match. You train just by riding everywhere without too much fear... so simple.

      @OnlyKaerius Před 7 lety +4

      Cheaper and lighter bike without it, and a lot of stupid people who macho talk about only needing skill, and worrying about the ABS system failing. In my country ABS isn't mandatory, but if the bike has an ABS option, they're not allowed to sell the non-ABS version, so most new bikes have ABS. You also don't want ABS on enduro/cross, and at least want to be able to disable it on dualsports and adventure bikes, because you want to be able to lock up brakes in the dirt.

    ABS is nice technology.... but I noticed that while performing for ABS and cornering ABS the biker leans back to straight while breaking .... but not did it for no ABS breaking demonstration.... cheating? did any one noticed this?

    • @DtotheAtotheNtotheI
      @DtotheAtotheNtotheI Před 7 lety +15

      It's very simple: ABS is to prevent a locking tyre. If you lean and break so hard/ fast that thy tyre locks up, you fall.
      Braking with C-ABS is like normal braking which always leads to the bike going straight and upright unless you force it to corner under braking

    • @The_Touring_Jedi
      @The_Touring_Jedi Před 6 lety

      Well front brake is possible abs or no abs on a dry tarmac like in this vid. Problem is even with the wet surface you are done even with abs if engaged to hard at cornering. Trail braking is almost always done with rear brake. And this video of tight turn with front brake is nonsense.

    All this technology fails on gravel and cement spread roads esp in Indian roads. All of these technologies shown are only effective if the tyres grip on the road properly, the abs and mcs is contingent on tyre grip hence ineffective on tyre skidding.

    •  Před 7 lety +8

      I suppose if you switch it to rain mode, then it's also very effective on surfaces you mentioned
