    Wow! Every time I have a question or need to do something with the rabbits, you pop up with a video answering my question. Awesome 😎

    Side note for clipping the nails on any animal with claw-like nails (rabbits, dogs, cats, birds, rodents, etc.) styptic powder is awesome to have on hand when clipping nails but as Tiff stated in the video cornstarch will work in a pinch... you literally just take a pinch of either powder in your fingers and push it against the injured/quicked nail

    Thank you for sharing this video. It’s really helped when clipping my dogs nails because she also has the darker nails and pushing the fur back with the clipper makes it easier to see.

    That is helpful. I think this is one of the best videos how to trim rabbit's nail. Dark nails are truly difficult to trim, I once accidentally cut the quick 😭.

      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, it’s inevitable that I cut several quicks when I go through the whole rabbitry cutting nails. Some veins are tricky!

    Thank you! Really enjoying your rabbit videos. Love seeing how gentle your rabbits are. I'm taming some inherited breeders as my entry into rabbits, but am encouragedto see how gentle they can be when raised correctly. Also, love that you did 4-H! Our girls did 4-H from Cloverbuds through high school. Wish we had added rabbits back then! Blessings!

    I've always been scared to clip their nails. I got a rescue bunny that had curled and super long. It took me 2 years to get his nails to where they didn't look uncomfortable. His quick grew out so long

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 2 lety +1

      Some quicks definitely grow longer than usual! You almost have to “train them” to be shorter by more frequent clipping.

      @@TealStoneHomestead I know. It took me 2 years to get his nails to the point they weren't a total mess. When I got him his nails were 2 inches long and wrapped around each other. Poor guy I'm not sure how he could walk. I don't think he'd ever had his nails clipped. Ever. My friends dad begged me for him. Now he's living his best life as a bunny who is the most spoiled and loved. I loved him dearly but had 10 others to care for. Now he's an only child of a lonely older man. He takes him everywhere he goes. Lol. I still get to see him.

    Thank you for the video. I have a question: what is “a star” or “no star” ?

    • @TealStoneHomestead
      @TealStoneHomestead  Před 2 lety +2

      It’s just a thing that can happen with silvering breeds like silver fox and creme d’Argent. Some people say it can be genetic, but it’s just really iffy. A star that doesn’t molt out into adulthood is not breed standard and undesired, so it’s just something to watch for.

      My breeding stock I will keep for a couple years, but I tend to have higher turnover as we are always improving. We butcher rabbits typically between 12-16 weeks old. Sometimes younger if they are for sure a cull.
