Hi!! If it was just the song and nothing else, Lost and Found would be my favourite Macedonian entry! I love it, it's so catchy and mysterious. Unfortunately that live was indeed pretty awful. (And Kaliopi is more iconic so she's my actual overall favourite!)
Michael Schulte is definitely someone to be proud of. 😊 The top 10 or so of this year is all songs I absolutely adore and his is one of them. He did a great job on the jury this year too. (Ranked Soldi #1!)
Romania... Hmm. I do see why people like it a lot, it's definitely a song that sets out to be powerful and uplifting. But to me the message was like "stop being depressed, be happy!!!" and I didn't really like that. But sometimes a simple idea can get through to people really well and a lot of people who saw it live said it felt powerful. I do think I was a little bit harsh on it in hindsight. Someone said it sounds like a song from the Treasure Planet movie (which I love!!) and now I can't stop thinking about it. :)
And I do appreciate a big fan of the Italian song!! I know 5th seems a little low but like I said, I loooved all the song I ranked the highest.
Omg and don't even get me started on Claudia and Isaura. :( I wish they'd had more help on staging it to be more memorable bc I heard they had to do most of it themselves.

Albania is my runner-up for 2018 as well.
10: i also do not know anything about this type of metal, but this was insanely powerful. the guitar instrumental in the beginning immediately attracted me to the song, the lead singer has a strong and powerful voice, and i overall enjoy this type of music, so i absolutely adored it! in 2018, i had three winners, and this was one of them.
9: okay, back to “random parts of songs i love”, this one also has something like this. in this case, it’s the verses. they’re incredibly great and give off the dark atmosphere that i think the entry is supposed to create. the chorus, however... disappointed me. overall, this is not my favourite.
8: the song is absolutely sweet and is performed by an amazing singer. this almost made me cry, but i actually do not remember if i cried or not. overall, this song is great, but still not my favourite.
7: i live in cyprus, and when i came to school the day after the contest, i remember almost everyone (mostly the boys) being disappointed with the fact that this did not win. eleni definitely slayed the stage with the awesome choreography, and this would definitely make a good winning song. although, on the cypriot radio, “toy” played more frequently than this.
6: the message of the song was delivered flawlessly and the performance was incredible. the flare moment was unforgettable, and this is definitely one of my favourite non-qualifiers of that year.
5: and there’s another one of my winners! the message of this song is incredible and the few lines of russian text displayed on the screen were enough to bring me to tears. this entry gave me chills, and made me want to immediately put it as a first place; in 2018, i had three winners, and this was one of them.
4: and there’s another one! one thing i really love about opera songs is when they create a sort of atmosphere; to me, this one did it perfectly. elina’s voice is incredible and the dress is absolutely stunning, and the song really sounds unearthly and unreal. in 2018, i had three winners, and this was one of them.
3: okay, i was not really a big fan of this entry, but i understand why you like it. i agree that it created a gentle, hopeful atmosphere.
2: once again, we don’t agree, but i still respect your opinion! i agree that eugent is a talented vocalist, however, the song sounded somewhat irritating to me.
1: it seems that we never agree on our winners! this used to be my winner once, but not anymore because of a family member that liked the song and asked me to play it to them a lot of the time. i grew off this entry, but i still like it quite a lot and i’m glad that i now remember all of the lyrics (there are much more embarrassing things i know all of the lyrics to, for example, san marino 2019).
(also, i’m sorry if you find any typos, as i always make a lot of them while typing very long stuff like this. i’m quite embarrassed from 2010, when i forgot to type “not” in front of “my favourite” on romania’s entry!)

10: this year is honestly so good i would've been happy to see anything from my top 10 win!! this song is amazing.
9: the verses are very cool, i think perhaps the chorus is a little generic? kind of basic and poppy, but i still like it. i also... had no idea what he was saying throughout, even as a native english speaker. literally the only phrase i picked up on first few listens was something about a decision. maybe he should have sang in Ukrainian. i'd probably move this entry just out of my top 10 if i redid this ranking.
8: very beautiful!! i think this type of song feels a little too familiar and overdone, but the emotion is so real that i love it anyway.
7: i think toy as a song is probably technically stronger, but fuego was a full PERFORMANCE, it's so fun to watch.
5: i'm so happy they came third in the televote!! they really connected with people, it's amazing. i don't usually like graphics that are added digitally, but in this case, they were used flawlessly. i also get so emotional every time i hear this.
4: yes!! the atmosphere here was stunning, it really felt like a winner to me. i just love elina in general, i think she could make a great comeback one day.
3: this top 3 is VERY self indulgent and i deffo don't expect to find someone with the same top 3 :,) it was hard to pick because there genuinely are like ten songs that i would have loved to see win, so i just went with whatever gave me the most feelings!
2: the song is pretty subjective, i was thrilled he got so far after consistently being at the bottom of the odds. it's hard to describe, but eugent just has this really warm, friendly vibe that makes me feel so happy whenever i hear this song.
1: definitely has the potential to be overplayed, so i see what you mean! i just love the beautiful message and the pretty instrumentals.

43: this song sounds eerily similar to “heroes”, and includes a very unnecessary rap verse and quite a strange idea for a staging (i hope this year will not turn out like 2011, and i know it won’t since i know all the song!) (sorry i say very random things at very random times). there are not many positive things i can say about this entry. in conclusion, a wonderful choice for a 43rd place.
42: the song, to me, sounds like it has potential to be a good song. i like some parts of it (there are some parts of songs i find terrible that i actually appreciate), but overall, the song is quite dull. the staging is a bit ridiculous. i get why you would take the idea of a mountain theme for a song named “i won’t break”, but this was a bit too much. the singer definitely looks horribly uncomfortable, and overall, i can see that my country did not really want to try that year.
41: i mostly judge eurovision songs by listening experience. his voice did not irritate me, so the entry escalated from being the worst of the worst to being an “eh” entry.
40: like russia’s song, it has potential to be a good song, but at the same time... it doesn’t. the message is not really effective; i would not even get the message if i was listening to it for the first time, as it is one of those times where the lyrics kind of blend in with the music, making them unnoticeable.
39: this definitely is quite dull and would pass as background music. i would though, question how awkward the people in whatever elevator this would be playing in would feel when the unnecessary spoken word part comes on...
38: the singers’ vocal abilities don’t match well at all; one sings better than the other. i have never been in a relationship, but i can already understand that this is definitely not what love feels like.
37: compared to some of that year’s non-qualifiers, this is actually quite a good dance pop song, even though i’m not a fan of those. however, the performance was definitely more than awkward.
36: i quite like the idea too, and for some reason, i started to pay attention to the lyrics of this song on my first listen. the staging... made absolutely no sense to me though.
35: definitely agree with you on this one! i’m definitely not a fan of this entry. i’m not the biggest fan of hip-hop, but i can clearly see how much this entry messes up that genre. the performance was very cringe-worthy and the lyrics were... trashy, but not the good kind of trashy. however, the czech republic, in my opinion, had one of the best postcards in that year (well, that was random to mention!)!
34: this song is quite cute, but definitely not the best of that year. i am pretty sure that there were much better things than it in the semi-final it was in.
33: this song does not really fit my taste, and the chorus and the verses are very bland. the theme of love really reminds me of denmark’s 2019 entry for some reason.
32: the staging has potential to be a good staging idea, but turned into an increasingly weird mess. i had a friend who was quite a fan of alekseev’s other songs, and i can clearly tell from experience listening to them that he can do better than this.
31: very dull and irritating song, in my opinion, but i respect what you think about it. i seriously have not paid attention to the performance when i watched this entry, so i cannot really say anything about it.
30: i cannot really say anything about this entry, as it is just “okay” entry for me. i did not really feel anything when listening to it.
29: i never really liked “fairytale”, but i can tell that this is about a thousand times worse than it. this sounds like a children’s song to me, though the staging was quite creative. it’s also incredibly annoying.
28: surie made this song sound sweet, however, this song still sounds pretty average and would probably not qualify if it was not an automatic qualifier.
27: i honestly hate this song so much. i’m not a big fan of the country rock genre and the song is very irritating and annoying. i can agree with you, it’s just a “whatever” entry.
26: this was actually very pleasant to listen to, and i would not expect something like this from montenegro! the staging definitely was a bit odd, but the song was definitely outstanding.
25: the moment i heard this song was the moment when serbia stopped being my favourite country in eurovision. this song sounded awful in general to me, though i quite like the mixture between traditional and modern!
24: this is quite a powerful song, but it took quite a long time to get to the climax. overall, i cannot say much about it.
23: it’s quite great and gentle. the staging does not fit the theme of the song and feel a little forced, and eurovision fans definitely talk more about the staging than this song.
(number) 22 (why am i being reminded of other irish eurovision entries all of a sudden?): okay, i never heard anyone call her dress a “shower curtain”, but now i can clearly see the resemblance! overall, it’s quite a good art pop song that i quite like!
21: of you remember my ranking of 2010, i mentioned that i love some random parts in some songs, like the verses in “run away”. this one also has one of these parts, and that’s when he sings “i might now” in the chorus. overall, this is quite pleasant, but definitely not the best.
20: okay, straight after i talked about it, another one of those songs with random parts i love! this time, it’s the pre-chorus, especially the part before they pretended to have a technical issue (which was really odd, by the way). and yes, “slovenian trap music” and “hungarian metalcore” was not something i expected to hear.
19: the performance was definitely bland, lost and forgotten, but the song was fantastic, ethnic and dramatic (and one of the only greek-language ethnic songs i actually like without it being irritating!).
18: okay, i also do not get the “oh my god vikings” thing (though this was unexpected for denmark to send to eurovision), but i this the song is quite great and outstanding. i liked it since the very first time i heard it though, so i cannot really say if it grew on me or not.
17: okay, the staging was... fantastic. a lot of people hated the song, but this was just beyond creative, and they performed it flawlessly, even though there were so many things that could go wrong.
16: okay, definitely not my winner, but actually the second eurovision song i heard, as my friend used to love this and showed it to me. i don’t like this entry and find it ridiculous, and i think that there are some better songs that had a chance to win that year.
15: this song is quite good and atmospheric, though the band members clearly have different levels of vocal abilities.
14: i also love the theme of the song. it definitely deserved higher than 25th place, even though the staging was a bit too much, but just like saara wanted, “something that has never been done in eurovision before”!
13: okay, i kind of still question why i like this and hate sweden 2018, but overall, it’s quite a charming song when performed by cezar (sorry, but when a participant is called cezar, i start thinking of a specific romanian entry, which i think was from 2013), of course (otherwise this would be incredibly creepy).
12: okay, i’m not a fan of this song, but i respect your opinion. i never really enjoyed this song and it never made any impression on me, and i almost never listen to it. and yes, the live was definitely a great big mess.
11: when i first listened to this, i thought it would sound better performed in a more deep, male voice and i did not like the entry. but now, i actually think this song is great and my opinion on it has changed! ieva’s voice is absolutely beautiful, but this entry did not really make me cry (another entry did, though).
