When my oboe teacher came to the house for my 1st lesson, my mother asked, "Is it true that oboists go insane?" And he said, "No. You have to be crazy to start!"
I have played the oboe for fifteen years and somehow manage to be all of these at times. Say what you will about us but oboe players tend to have the biggest personality.
I can definitely understand the one about the person that has to come in and play every tough passage they have ever learned by memory, EVERY time they sit down to play, and especially if there are new people around to "impress". MADDENING!! We KNOW you can PLAY. Give it a rest!! This was great.
Strings are so more difficult... I play the violin for 8 years and it sounds like a dying cat (section leader of 2nd violins in my school orchestra) and I also play the oboe since last year and I can play soli easily xD
@@howl5036 ive played both the oboe and the violin, you can have your own opinion but the oboe is way harder than the violin to me, oboe takes tons of breath control, playing classical music we have tons of really weird parts, we have to always play in tune, your reeds can go from good to crap within hours, and fingerings almost never align so you have to quickly be able to think of which cross fingering would be best and most in tune,
A even more powerfull is to blame it on not on the reed, but on the ambient where you are playing, saying that your reed, for as much well crafted, cannot project in such an ambience. But blaming it on the reed is still usefull.
If, by mistake, you happen to be in an orchestra pit and have an urgent need for some brass or nylon or silk wire, a sharp knife, a screw driver, a ruler, a micrometer, goldbeater's skin, a grenadilla log, a rag, a water or maybe rhum vial, nail varnish ( available in several colors always matching the nylon wire!), an octave box key, grease, a spring crook or a piece of cork... who else but the oboe player could provide you with? ha! On the other hand, whoelse but the second oboe player would need any of it?... Maybe the third bassoon. Nah... your orchestra even did not find a second bassoon!
how can I have forgotten the cigarette paper, the one with no glue! There is absolutely no reason to laugh about it when one knows the reason why we need it. Poor oboe player...
In the orchestra you normally have 1,2 or 3 sometimes 4 oboes that play different parts. The first one is the leading one so first oboists tend to have a bit of ego.
I love it when theres videos dedicated to what oboists are like or go through, i cant get enough of it, ive been an oboist for 6 years and these are so relatable.
It is so great to see different instruments and new perspectives. As a pianist you have your own mentality and stuff you have to deal with so it is so interesting to learn or learn about other instruments.
This is meee. I’ll play everything fine but play one note just like slightly out of tune and I’m like “omg I’m so sorry that was so bad”. I hate that Im like that but it is what it is lol
I'm literally a combination between 1 and 3, like my reeds always betray no matter what the weather is :") and I always carry everything to make my reeds, because better safe than sorry ;)
May years ago I turned up to a group to rehearse baroque sonatas, with a treble recorder and harpsichordist- they could not understand how I could play all through a piece without getting all my reed knives out like the previous oboist!!!! (I do that at home...)
i know NOTHING about oboe but still can relate to the flutist and this is mighty fun. thank you! love the party guy! 😂 edit: 7:41 snake charming!😍😂 (no, i am a human😂) and for a while i thought you were twins but then i realized😂 amazing video editing!
Best video ever... a reed broke in my mouth in a solo contest no one understood except the host who was a sax player still he only half got it! I had a reed in my pocket and ppl said why is that allowed? Only reed players got it
OMG so funny. I am so much the type with all the crap to make reeds, even with a shelf on the stand there is not enough room. I usually need a chair (well, who cares if it's a viola chair)> And who hasn't met theGod/Goddess of the oboe type who tells everybody else what's wrong with them, as they themselves are perfect. MY favorite is the low C#. My first job, I played 2nd ob on the MOldau. squawk........
I liked #4 which is true for all sections including violins and cellist, before concerts playing all kinds of random shit including parts of concertos. Also #5 was funny, the intonation police. There are those who take that on in other sections as well telling others if they are sharp or flat it's very insulting especially when they themselves are off. Thanks for the laughs.
I definitely brought a lot of my reed making stuff, and other things, to every rehearsal and was always the last one packed up and out the door afterwards…oh, and I had like 5 pencils in my case bc you never know!! My pencils gave me less trouble than those reeds…😳🥺🤬🤯
You're forgetting the black sheep oboe player. The ones who get hated on by the rest of the band all the time. Because of the oboe's amazing ability to pierce through a whole brass section without a blink. That was me, I was that black sheep. 😂😂
I am every one of these; I should be shot. Having said that, hey, at least I'm not a godawful flutist. (On a side note, first time here. Still not sure if this is the same guy or twins. Either way, I feel for the parents.)

the fact that there’s no lie in this lol
I love honesty! Be your true self♡ all of them, we're hilarious.
True
Put the one with the perfect intonation next to the 'cool guy' who practices once in 3 days, fireworks guaranteed xD
I think all of us are all of them at some level.
totally true, i got the inspiration from myself :D

On my mind you forgot about another one type: person that says everyone and everywhere “Oboe is the most difficult instrument, you know?” 😂😂
good one! there could be many more actually :D
yes, because it's true :-)

Lisa Simpson had to use this one too.

I'm the guy that has everything, when someone needs something I'm the first person they come to. Of course I played oboe before switching to bassoon.
I feel we oboists are sometimes all of this. Not at the same time, but yeah...Support the oboist! :)
The oboe is always right in tuning haha. Our conductor doesn't even bother anymore to tune us 3 oboes hahahah
Hey a rare flute has appeared! Love your content btw!
Thank you!
Anytime you said "I'm the first oboe" all I could think was "I'm the only oboe. Does that make me first or last?

I play the oboe and I am definitely number 1 - my reed is the first thing to be blamed always!! 🙃 Love this video, so accurate!
Marin, I think you may have forgotten the oboe player who forgets their reed or stand at home 🤭
Oh there are so many more... I need to make a version 2 soon 😁
Why am I here? I play flute

Why there is not the shy one always saying sorry even when they did fine... Oh, right, that's just abnormal me😅

Do that many oboe players even exist?
I’ve never met another one (aside from my teacher)
i guess so, or we’re government drones. who knows
Guido Sarduci reincarnated in the pit. Bravo.
Don’t forget the “my reed is broken” or “it’s my reed” person🤣
It’s the acoustics I just can’t project well in this room 🤦♂️
it’s the weather, it’s made me sick and my reed try 🤷♀️
Man, look all those stuffs for reed making. I was thinking about learning baroque oboe, but I do not want it anymore. Hahahaha
今まで見たオーボエ奏者の方の音色の中で1番好きです!!!日本語なので伝わらないかもしれないですがとても好きな音色です!!大好きです!
I like the sound of your instrument
May years ago I turned up to a group to rehearse baroque sonatas, with a treble recorder and harpsichordist- they could not understand how I could play all through a piece without getting all my reed knives out like the previous oboist!!!! (I do that at home...)
Make a new reed in the middle of rehersal ? :D
Lol, i know right? Making a whole new reed would take all of rehearsal and then some.
Wait is this an oboe channel? Omg cool
Welcome to the channel!
omg we need to come together we are rare but we are strong
Oh, well done!
You need to leave three alone. The struggle is real.
I would only bring my LandWell knife, wood block, plaque and a razor blade......
i’m the only oboe in my grade an i’m so lonely i have finally found people of my kind

And the other excerpts ?
Strauss Oboe Concerto
Mozart Oboe Concerto
Rossini La Scala Di Setta
I think these are the excerpts :)

This video is so funny! Marin, you are so funny. I know I am like #1 sometimes. The winter is the worst for oboe players.
It was so enjoyable, I play clarinet; this was a charm.
True :D
Go to Venezuela! You gonna see this everywhere jajajajaja!

double bass rocks!

You definitely will. I for one am glad that you exist and wrote this comment!
I play the oboe in my band class. Im a beginner. Im super nervous to perform at concerts. Oboe is the hardest instrument to play.
Hahaha sure I've been the first one trying to justify my nervous before a concert xD, but no anymore...
We've all been there!
Did the reedmaker bring everything except his oboe?
The oboe is the first thing he pulls out of the bag but first he needs to make some reeds 😃

I know all five, even in one orchestra. But I better not say names now .....

How much earn an oboe player? I quick that instrument many years ago, I still have mine saved in its case in some place of my house.
It really depends on the work you do and the job you have.
You forgot the one who is actually nice/good
is this aint all of us

If you play the oboe you are never in tune. Literally not possible do not lie to yourself and the orchestra 😂
At least the first oboe does not care. The whole orchestra follows its A!
