This is the best guide on the subject that's on CZcams.

This tutorial is an amazing help! The only thing I’d mention is that the new threadmark feature to let people quickly jump to specific sections (for instance, I’m referring back to this video again to try and magnetise my shield and stubber.

Thanks for the video, just used it to magnetize my knight. One tip I would give would be to use a battery powered cordless drill if you have one. It allows for much more control to prevent from drilling all the way through. Also, love the final product. Great paint job.

  • @MagnusMoerkoereJohannesen

Instead of a powered drill, I use a hand drill; specifically one made by Tamiya. No risk of drilling all the way through by accident :)

yeah, hand drill all day....it's not a piece of lumber.

I find putting the magnet inside the dome at the waist allows you to just trim off the nub and then seat the magnet inside the frame and it holds really well with 1/2" magnets

the only thing that seems to be missing (and i know it's an old vid so idk how it was) is the canis rex weapon (the big lance) which shares a shield guard with the flamer. how would you make it work?

On the carapace if you are using a strong enough magnet you can mount it on the underside and not drill the carapace at all.

so at 7:40 you say to assemble it like the instructions say, i did that with 4 arms, sawed it off afterwords like in this video and couldnt drill in to the gun because the bit inside spins. it was a nightmare, i had to do so much work to remove the bit from inside the gun.

Sorry for the late reply! You can just glue those arms in place so they don't spin. If anyone else has this issue you can just add some glue to it after you saw the arms off on the ends and that should hold it in place for you! My apologies for not being clear from the start.

    Does primer affect the magnets?

I know it's been almost a year but do you happen to have a list of the magnets used? (sizes?)

I'm going off the 3/8", 3/16", and 3/32" drill bit sizes and getting a magnet just barely larger.

But I'm unsure exactly how thick he went with these....

i'd say he got the 1 or 1.5 mm thick magnets (judging from what i see in videos and shops with magnets)

He looks like my calc 3 teacher. Are those neodymium magnets are something weaker? Thanks.

Those are definitely neodymium rare earth magnets.
