    I ordered this online 2 days ago and expecting it tomorrow. I’m really surprised to see that you’re reviewing it a day before I receive it and the popping sound is definetly something that could have got me worried. Good to know that it wears off after couple of runs.
    I bought it knowing that I will always use the weather as an excuse to skip the run unless I have a special shoe for the weather. I plan to use it as long as it doesn’t snow

    Great review Ben. On the subject of winter running, you mentioned running on ice and said something about putting studs in the bottom of your shoes (???) I never knew there was such a thing (???) I know you can get crampons, to put over your shoes for running on ice, but the stud thing is new to me…sounds an interesting option.
    Time for a winter running (icy conditions) video me thinks 🏃‍♂️🥶❄️👍

    Thanks for the review Ben. I purchased this shoe around a year ago when it was called the Pegasus Shield 39. I wore it around the house for 5mins and decided it was not for me. The squelch/pop sound is horrible and the way the rubbery upper flexes in towards the toes when you walk/run is even worse! I'm surprised it gets better after wearing for a while, good to know for those who are giving it a try I guess. Agree with below that the Pegasus 37 Shield is the best. I've also got the Puma V Nitro 2 Seasons and the Puma Dv8 Nitro 2 WTR - recommend both. From last year the Saucony Triumph 20 Run Shield is also really good - not sure if they will do a weatherised version for the 21...

    I've had these for a while, great shoe. The people complaining about the pop are real nitpickers to me. I didn't notice it at all and it even goes away after a while. I love these for running in winter.

    I ordered them a couple days ago. I feel sorry for people that wear boots when it rains, nothing beats a weatherized running shoe no matter how hot they get

    The Nike pegasus 37 shield, is probably the best weatherized shoe I've had. Loved the look, feet were always dry, and were great in the cold (too hot if it wasn't cold enough). They last forever, grip is very good (not as good as puma grip though). I had to accept that Nike shoes don't really work for me, so I gave my pegasus shoes to my mother, who's still enjoying them for long walks.

      @@deezm4743 That's very personal, but I recently found my replacement for the Peg shield in the Puma Velocity Nitro 2 GTX. If you have no idea what kind of running shoes you like, the regular velocity nitro 2 is a good place to start. It's well loved and always on a good discount. I got mine just over 50 euro, and the GTX one for 59.95.

    Another Like is the extreme durability of the storm tread. my first ever running shoe when I just started out was the pegasus 37 shield and I ran over 2000km before finally replacing them. with 90% road running there was still some tread left on the contact patches! and React with zoom air pods felt not to bad either

  • @merlincalo6877

    Is there an air pocket in the forefoot and heel like the regular Nike Peg 40? Also, is there a Gortex version of the Peg for road running? Thnx

    Hey Ben! I watched your review. I just got my Nike Pegasus Shield last week. I have a concern about the shoes getting torn in the upfront part. You mention it makes the pop up sound when you walk. Is there a change that they get torn after some walks?

    I got this just cauze it was monsoon season this past 2 months where I’m from so I’m getting annoyed that my regular running shoes getting soaked each time though I have a few for rotation but just reserve them for race day.
    Yeah not ideal for warm climate cauze I don’t live in a snowy area. Do feel warm but not the bad kind that ur feet soaked with sweat inside😂
    The upper annoying sound doesn’t bother once u break in or go really fast maybe you’ll notice on casual walks.
    Comfort is average I mean u want softer u can get the invisibles . Aesthetically looks nice and a certified all rounder workhorse.

    I consider the purchase but am really on the fence with these... I love the model, I love the colour scheme, I love the outsole. What I fear though is overheating and sweated feet. I run in regular trail models with mesh uppers in the winter (0 ~ +5 deg Celsius) and am thermally fine. Every time I put a gore-tex model on, however, my feet get wet after 20min, because the moisture doesn't evaporate due to very limited breathing (gore-tex allegedly lets water vapour out, but just not enough for me when running). The only times I use gore-tex models and feel fine in them are either really cold winter days, like -5 ~ -10 Celsius, or when I just walk in them. Gore-tex works fine for me when walking. But running... feels too damp too quickly.
    Now, my question is - are these Shields gore-tex alike in terms of breathability? I don't actually care for water resistency, splash proofness is more than enough for me. Some form of insulation? - I don't mind either, I own some bulky trail models that are quite warm, as a result of their build, and don't mind, because they breathe. What I want is winter-ish colour scheme, outsole for wet conditions, maybe a bit more robust build, and evaporation of sweat from my toes, because without it I have wet forefeet just as if I dipped them in a puddle. It feels worse in 0 Celsius degrees with gore-tex for me, than in +30C in the summer in mesh trainers... 🤷‍♂ So, I would really like to sport these Pegasus Shields, but do they breathe at all? Or at least A BIT more than gore-tex? Or are they like a plastic bag over my feet? 😟
    Any thoughts on that?
    Cheers!

      @CptAngelKGaming Před 5 měsíci +2

      Why do people keep looking for some magic waterproof but super breathable shoe. The membrane can't breathe as well as if it doesn't exist.. Otherwise water will get in. This is a waterproof shoe. It's meant for cold and wet like you mentioned.
      If you just want splash proof just find a shoe with a relatively thick mesh or a cordura upper and put some waterpoofing spray on it.
      Some of us actually want a trully waterproof shoe to use in the cold. This is what this is for.
      For anything else, regular trainers work perfectly fine.

    I'm travelling light to England (from Australia) for the first time in April 2024 and looking for a shoe for everyday walking around as well as easy runs/Parkruns. Will be wearing Nike Vaporfly for the London Marathon but would the Nike Pegasus Shield be the answer for the rest of the time?

    • @g.a.v.d
      @g.a.v.d Před 6 měsíci +2

      Weather for April is quite mild in the UK and we have been known to get a few heat waves occasionally. I think the Pegasus Shield would be a bit too toasty for you feet and potentially be uncomfortable warm/hot.
      Great choice in marathon shoe, best of luck for the race. Hope your training goes well.

      @charlottemahon3677 Před 6 měsíci +2

      He did say above 10deg your feet would get too warm in those and it would be above 10deg in April..well I hope it will be. I’d imagine a normal Pegasus would be better in spring

      @g.a.v.d Před 6 měsíci +1

      @charlottemahon3677….I hope it’s warmer than that too 😂
      Yeah, the normal Pegasus would be a good choice, or if you have a favourite daily trainer. The new Asics Novablast 4 looks good, I’ll be grabbing a pair of them soon.

  • @steveh8758

    My favourite winter running shoe is the endorphin speed 2 run shield the only thing that could have been better was the out sole but it wasn’t bad
    Only trouble is you can’t get them anymore and there was a very very limited release of the speed 3 runs shield In the smaller sizes in the Uk
    Speed 3 isn’t as good any way and they have made the toe box narrower so doesn’t fit me very either
    Im using the triumph run shield and it’s okay but the midsole isn’t as soft or springy as I like from shoes
    I’m keeping the speed 2 run shield back for wet speed work outs

    • @pete801
      @pete801 Před 6 měsíci

      Speed 1 and 2 were brilliant. Speed 3 lost all of the magic the 1 and 2 had. And I agree on the toe box, much narrower. The speed 4 looks like the 3, has those plate wings as well which didn't work for me

    The lack of GTX is a plus for me. A lesser-known fact about GTX is that once it’s wet, it stays wet for much longer. Have a pair and it will be my last.

    The water won‘t get through the upper but what happens if you misjudge a puddle and water goes in over the top? It won‘t be able to get out! I imagine that could get really uncomfortable. Any thoughts?

      It’s more of an outdoor running shoe because the outsole has better grip I mean u could use but would be a waste u don’t utilise its key element for extreme weather outside. You wouldn’t need the extra grip on the treadmill could be dangerous if it’s too grippy . Just get a regular pegasus.

Я не знаю с чем это связано так как бегал давольно аккуратно.Единственное что приходит на ум это температура при которой я бегал ,до минус 22.Очень жаль конечно ,так как в целом мне все в них нравится.
