So when I saw he did a kayak fishing video I had to watch! I decided to make a reaction video and share a few of my thoughts on the current state and future of kayak bass fishing as well.

Randy Blaukat is extremely clickbaity and entertaining. He definitely has mastered the algorithim about how to get paid. Props to him for doing that.
I think sometimes Randy talks enough that he says things different than where his heart is. The heart of his message is that a lot of us got into fishing for the peace, nature, etc. The more technology that goes into the kayak world, the further we get from the reason many of us got into it.
True statement, its why getting to that river in the summer is important!
I got into kayak fishing to do tournaments without spending 50k. Randy is a blow hard that can’t compete anymore anyway

I watch Randy often. Saw the video yesterday. Seems like it was another shot at livescope , more than anything.
Randy gonna half to learn to operate a GoPro to fish with us.
Its what is tie on the end of that line, thats what catches fish. Everything else is just a preference.
Would love for Randy to start kayak fishing. That would be awesome.
I fish exclusively from kayak. Sometimes I wonder how many of Randy's (or any popular bass fishing channel's) subscribers are like me and fish from a kayak. I think the answer might surprise them, and that number is obviously increasing.
So glad I bought my first fishing kayak and strapped it to my 2-door car's rooftop. I simply wouldn't have started incredible sport/hobby/fitness activity if it wasn't for the access kayaks provide.

Randy is the Jerry Spriger of fishing.
Any tournament that offers payouts - people are going to get their best advantage, whether it be a 25k kayak or 100k bass boat.
I watched this video too. Many of the point he had I do agreed with up too the set up. Like you said, there are numerous cases of guys with basic kayaks coming into tournaments with a couple rods and winning or at least pulling a decent check. Randy also started to harp on the "cost" of things. I'll tell ya this, not the greatest set up, but I got on the water with a 220 dollar kayak and a 30 dollar paddle. Again, not the greatest set up, but I can catch fish with it.

I'll be honest, I half expected it to start as a rant about how kayak tournaments are allowed to start before boat tournament takeoffs and he got to his spot to find five kayaks there.
Last month, a guy with a paddle kayak destroyed the field of 30 people in our local club on Guntersville. So yeah, you dont absolutely NEED all the electronics to win.
An over the top rigged kayak is about 25% the cost of a bass boat equivalent.
Nothing in nature is "fair". "Leveling the playing field" typically means restrictions on one group that ends up benefiting another.
Obviously, you can set boundaries without dictating launch ramps. The point was to make everyone fish the same way. All because a handful of people pushed the envelope too far. Instead of dealing with a few exceptions. Broad rule changes are being made based on input from a small group. It will cause issues going forward.
Boy is he going to be soooo pissed when he finds out how many of us kayakers use Forward-facing SONOR .
I would love to see randy jump into the scene. It would pull more attention to the kayaking side of things.
My Hobie PA14-360 is about $13k all rigged out and the only thing I could add that I don’t have is a power pole and a more expensive electronics screen or a 2nd screen. I could probably buy a used bass boat for what I have in it.

It almost sounds like he's coyly trying to encourage kayak anglers to kindly fish where bass boats cant... IE get out of the boats way haha. "Don't use electronics, find places way up creeks, get into that real skinny water boats cant access... just don't fish offshore, or anywhere we would be fishing."

Good thing most kayakers are individualists and not prone to being "followers" and lead by a nose ring. We go where the fish are.
I knew he would be (mostly) a fan of kayak fishing. It would be cool to get him into a tournament on table rock or beaver and see how he does. I imagine he would be pretty good at it once he got the mechanics down, but there are some sticks in kayak tournaments for sure

What’s with all the hate? As another grumpy, old bastard, I love Randy. The man has boated more bass than most of us will ever dream of, earned over a half million fishing as a job, and shares a life time of fishing tips and advise for free. Yeah, there’s some click bait and some opinion pieces, but opinions are like a$$holes, everyone has one and should use it with some discretion. Some seriously thin-skinned sissies in the fishing community.
People see other people bash him, so they go along with the crowd and follow suit and dog pile as well. Some people have never progressed past the high school mentality. They take any little difference in opinion, and totally define the man based on that simple difference in opinion. It's like they are all CNN viewers or something....

Johnny Schultz was supposed to get into kayak fishing a few years ago. He and Chad Hoover were collaborating. Just kind of went away. I think he would kick ass on the kayak tournament scene

I looked into getting into it and yes you can start with a cheap unit but
I know alot of the guys In my area and they are running bonifides and old towns auto pilots with livescopes n lithium batteries they 5-7 thousands in these rigs they run upwards of 6 mph all day long I’m sorry but they are at a great advantage vs a guy in a 300 dollar wal mart kayak paddling

I have a kayak I love using it but I’m not about to jump into that money pit of tournaments I have a 96 ranger that does me just fine that cost less than there kayaks

Some interesting takes. I wonder if he could hack it kayak fishing and not being able to run and gun? I think he knows exactly what he is doing and his goal is to stir the pot on a regular basis to get more attention and views.

What I don’t understand is why is he always wanting to limit technology? People have the freedom of choice to put whatever u want on your vessel. Me personally, dont like livescope, so i dont put it on my kayak. But if Billy-Bob wants to put it on his then go ahead its none my business. And if he kicks my arse in a tourney then oh well im try harder next tourney.

You have to realize that Randy doesn't have a lot of formal higher education, so he throws out quite a few malapropisms and misused words in his videos-but you should still get the gist of what he says despite that.

@@JeffMalott He used "resurgence" instead of 'upsurgence'. Kayak bass fishing was never a big thing before, so there is no "re" involved.
You can get a USED bass boat for 10 to 12k why would you pay that for a kayak??? Yall are getting played lol.

Out of the 8 years of kayak fishing I've spent $120ish on maintaining the kayak.
😂 i have a bass boat and I hardly use it. The cost to upkeep is crazy. I have kayak fished all across the country for over 6 years with lil to no maintenance. The cost isn't close to the same
I enjoy his stuff, but MAN he has gotten pretty angry about a whole lot of things. He certainly spends a ton of his time blasting a lot of people.
Randy does nothing but complain about something he doesn't like. He likes to stick his nose everywhere.
When it comes to content and making people notice and talk, that is what CZcamsrs have to do. No one watches videos with a bunch of patsies spouting on how great everything is. Show me a man with none of his own opinions, and I'll show you a man who doesn't do much thinking on his own.

@@XploreAz You live a very insulated life if you get this upset over someone having a different opinion than you have. Just because his opinion is different than yours, doesn't mean he doesn't 'understand' it. He may just be looking at the longer and larger view of how tech is impacting the sport, and you are only looking at the short term benefits for only yourself.
I think it's a fad, it will pass just like float tubes.
