She WAS a great vocalist. Her old music is fire. Her voice is now damaged as it says in this video. It's extremely raspy now and it isn't pleasant to listen to very sadly. Same happens to a lot of talented vocalists who have unhealth singing habits and no voice therapist to support or unhealthy lifestyles like Whitney Houston.
But her personal life affected her career. She can hardly hold a note anymore and seems to have lost it mentally. I was in awe of her at one time also. "The Miseduation Of Lauryn Hill" was pure genius. Sad.

You both will drown. Peace to a woman who inspired so many but had to be dragged through the mud in order to find redemption.

Growing up during the introduction of hip hop/rap music, as a teenager I only listed to this type of music. Years later, while still in that frame of mind, Lauren Hill released her album. I never bought R&B music but after hearing one of her songs, I purchased it and must have listened to it a 1000 times. A album with 90% of the songs on it as hits! 👍
Actually, the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was certified Diamond (selling more than 10 million copies in the US alone). Now sold 20 million copies worldwide, making it the biggest selling female Rap album of all time and the biggest selling neo-soul album in history.

I was a huge fan of The Fugees and Lauryn Hill. It’s bulls*** how she tried to lie to the world that “the miseducation” was all her and cheat so many others out of their due credit and share. Then tried again on her following album making people sign off their credit or “do it for God.” Then still got in trouble for attempting to dodge $2.5 million in taxes. Then kept up these relationships with men she knew was married and playing the fence as they pleased between her and the wives. That mess will eff up a woman at the soul level, it’s terribly destructive, it’s fatiguing just hearing about it. Her downfall was her continuing to live foolishly one way or another. There is no way to continue to live life wrong and things not go haywire in an ugly spiral. She had something awry in her spirit of wanting things that were not hers with seemingly little regard for who what belonged to, in her relationships, her creative projects, money, etc. 😟😔😢 No judgement, just stating the hard truth of life. If this stuff is at all true this is a sad story, she claimed herself a wise woman but lived like a fool and paid a price…and Wyclef is a flippin’ mess, yuck. 😣 I’m sorry I saw this.

i honestly think people want something to be wrong with her. more than likely she's going thru stuff that the typical person goes through; when they have family , relationships etc. Her music is timeless and she's till dope, from my pov- been to a few of her recent shows.

The album most definitely was NOT a failure.. it was beautiful. and the "ranting" was amazing... nice to hear her speak and be so vulnerable.. was very raw, wise and real... not a failure at all. I still love and bang it till this day.

I believe MTV Unplugged was her masterpiece and hers alone. There was too much hubris on her part with MOLH. She had too much to prove with everybody and that's why things went down as it did. She took up the guitar, wrote every song, and that album was ten times realer than MOLH.

Most people make bad choices in relationships. I have myself watched another man marry someone else while he still chased after me. Never attended the wedding though. She wasn't afraid to show people her emotions, everyone called her crazy because even though all celebrities deal with the same overwhelming stress, she decided to be vulnerable and open about it and that wasn't "normal". People just didn't like that she was on another level. She was open about who she was and people were uncomfortable with that.
