  • Spilling the beans (aka my thoughts) on the GFX 100II as a wedding photographer's camera. Spoiler alert: I love it, and it actually does a pretty good job of keeping pace with modern full frame mirrorless while producing the prettiest files I've ever seen.

    Thanks for the follow-up on your thoughts about the change so far . . . A few things:
    1.) how are you handling the slow sync speed of the system? Or are you just shooting available light with your weddings and this camera?
    2.) the music under your vids is a little hot and distracting . . . Kinda gets in the way of your VO
    3.) add a practical in the background of your set, so it doesn’t look like you’re filming from a cave 😅
    All-in-all though, great job - keep it up 💪🏻

    Such a wonderful video and extremely nice pictures that you showed us. By the way how you present the video with these interruptions of next chapters and changing the frame it makes it really refreshing. 🙂 I’m still struggling to achieve that typical weddingkinda look, it was very helpful to see the before, and after to know that it’s not a different way of taking the picture but different way of post processing. Could you maybe show us how to edit these files that would be extremely wonderful. Cheers 👋

      @@captaincook6283 wow thank you mate, appreciate the kind words, and happy to hear the video format is working. These are pretty easy edits with my preset, basically one click and adjustment of exposure and white balance. I’m working on an edit-focussed video now, and will have my presets up for sale (with a sharp intro offer) pretty soon!

      @@ethanlowryphotography oh 7 minutes from 55 mins of raw footage you definitely cut out a lot !! 😅😁
      I cut out a lot too. My recent GH7 review, the original talking head video was 6 hours long. In the end my final video was 1.5 hours so you still cut out more than me😆

    Great video, this insight is really helpful. Currently, I'm shooting on the 50S II and 80mm 1.7 for weddings (X-H2S for the more fast paced stuff). Scary slow but I have learned the ways of Contrast AF enough to be confident to know when/where I can use it. Best part of MF is you shoot so much less because you have to be intentional.

    • @ethanlowryphotography
      @ethanlowryphotography  Před měsícem +1

      Cool man, glad you found it helpful! I shot with that same combo and just felt it was a bit too tricky to shoot alongside my Sony stuff. I think you’re ok the money with the “knowing when to use it” angle - it can be quite conditional.

  • @digitalpixshb
    @digitalpixshb Před 25 dny

    Awesome video. Possibly stupid question, but is there a way to shoot both RAW and with a simulation in jpg? Like 2 files from a single image? I'd love to shoot in a film simulation for a quick transfer with a jpg, but still have a RAW to take home and edit without a simulation applied to it.

    • @ethanlowryphotography
      @ethanlowryphotography  Před měsícem

      Thanks mate! Not a dumb question at all. You can shoot RAW+JPG and it’ll bake the film sim into your JPG and give you the standard raw file as well. But even the jpgs on this beast are massive so I tend to just shoot raw only

    Hey there,
    greetings from Germany! I am a hobby photographer an I just sold my GFX 50S II. The Reason: I wasn't comfortable with the autofocus and the speed that comes with it. I was thinking to buy the GFX 100S II. I shoot street, landscape and people. I also own the XT-5
    What is your opinion! Should I go for the more expensive 100 II?
    Thoughts on this? Would love to hear your opinion.
    AND needless to say: THANX for rtor the great videos! They do help!
    Peace

    • @ethanlowryphotography
      @ethanlowryphotography  Před 3 dny

      @@HabibiAltun heya! Yeah, I feel your pain on the 50s II. I think the autofocus of the 100s II and 100 II is basically the same, the most significant difference for me was the buffer - 100S II had a buffer of like 17 images vs 65 ish in the 100 II. I couldn’t risk hitting buffer in key wedding moments so I went for the 100 II. So if you know you’ll need long bursts occasionally, go for the big dog - if you don’t, the 100S II will be perfectly fine.
      For what it’s worth, I find the 55, 80 and 110 way slower to focus than other GF lenses like the 23, 30, and 63. The latter 3 feel more like my mirror less Sony setups, super quick and smooth to focus, no hunting, etc.

    • @ethanlowryphotography
      @ethanlowryphotography  Před měsícem +1

      AF wasn’t better in my experience - I’ve given it a proper go. And the buffer for continuous shooting is way smaller, only 17 images ish vs 65+ on the 100II.
      I waited to purchase this until I could get my hands on the 100S II, would have been nice to save the $$ but the buffer killed it for me.
