- When Michael Jackson stepped onto the stage during the Motown 25 television special, the costume he chose to wear that evening instantly became iconic after he wowed audiences around the World with his rendition of 'Billie Jean', bursting out his trademark 'Moonwalk' for the first time.
The items worn were quickly and haphazardly discarded, as a result, making them Michael Jackson's collector's 'Holy Grail', from his shoes and fedora, to his signature white sequin glove. This is the story behind Michael Jackson's iconic 'Billie Jean' ensemble, its premise, where are those items now? And what value do they hold today?

Michael didn't really dress himself, he had image consultants who would sort out literally everything on him, including his garments.
At that level of celebrity, unless the famous person comes from a fashion background themselves, it's usually all handled by other people "steering" recommended looks.
Thought everyone would know this by now, Michael had advisors for literally everything he did as soon as he broke into Motown. That's just how the industry works.
@Ryan Speer . Hello my dear you are right because the song is very nice and all michael jackson fans always like him songs
Plus he was a pedophile
The iconic signature
I'm envious of that guy in Hong Kong who owns the Glove. Not that I had $400,000 to bid on it. Lol.
😂😂😂
Just proves how dangerous it is to get caught up in the idea your getting a real piece of MJ history
I’ve wondered how your not verified with over a million subscribers
True also happened to the iconic gold thomas icon?
Its better than getting molested by him.
@@Jagrio those are fake subs thats why lmfao
@@contraband1543 really how do you know? I’ve heard of this guy before so I’m not so sure about that.
The glove started on the left. But switched to the right in almost every later performance. The opening of Billie Jean at Motown 25 before the vocals kick in is the only time Michael used that transition of moves aswell. After that he always put a spin into the starting dance before he started singing.
I never paid that much attention to which hand he wear the glove on. Thanks for sharing
I think he put it on his left hand for his History 1997 Munich Show.
@@king-dl2qt nah the dick eating is crazy

The original glove is at Motown Museum in Detroit...🌹❤️🎙️🌠🌏💯
Michael Jackson’s Motown glove was designed by a family friend by the name of Janice Smith. Should’ve been credited in the video as Janice’s work is beyond amazing! She designed other gloves for Michael Jackson & has been a friend of the family’s since the late 70s. Again, she should’ve been credited & mentioned.
Janice is a part of the family, not a friend, working with and for them since she was very young. She created many of the J5 costumes in addition to Michael's gloves and jackets. She is s nice and reliable person and an amazing friend. Love her from the bottom of my heart.

do you know if she designed the black one he wore during the 84 american music awards ? that one was gorgeous looking
The glove 🥊 and outfit should be in the Motown museum heck all his stuff could make a Michael Jackson museum
I have the photo from when I visited the historic Motown museum, where Michael's black Fedora and white glove remain in a glass box. There's a note under which reads,
"Michael Jackson donated this black Fedora and glove to the museum on October 23, 1988, with a $125,000.00 check"
Yes but it was not the fedora or glove from this performance.
It was the attire from his original debut of Billie Jean. Maybe ones thereafter, but not the original clothes.
Can only imagine how much the socks would be. Probably at least millions!
Love content like this. All of his looks were so iconic.
WOW … This channel is like a museum for the greatest artist of the TV epoch … the best artists from the renaissance are still superstars … and therefore it is likely that MJ will be remembered for many hundred years … and therefore it is important to tell the true story instead of awful fake news ... and therefore this channel is absolutely super great !!!
👏👏👏👏
Omgggg his sparkle had me mesmerizedddd😫😍😍😍
Mj look is so badass
Mj look so cool and badass
The gloves were originally worn during the Jacksons Destiny and Triumph tours. Particularly during the Triumph Tour he had various colored gloves to match his outfits. The glove worn during Motown 25 was actually originally worn during the Triumph Tour. The gloves have since been auctioned off and are in various museums as well. Little known fact, Michael's original choice of outfit for Motown 25 was a white glittered out fit including glove and shoes from the Triumph Tour. Every Jackson, except for Jermaine, wore either complete outfits ,or parts of outfits from the Triumph Tour during Motown 25.
Destiny and Triumph? Interesting names for enticing kids to get into your bed.
You say "little known fact" but I don't think you understand what that term means since you basically just repeated what the video above even said.
It was a burn glove.
@@wexplo15 idk which one of your mom’s boyfriends did something to you but I hope you seek closure 😬
I saw that costume in the 80s books. Was he going to have a matching white jacket with that outfit?
Just bought the moonwalk book to read... i cant get enough of Michael jackson

I cant believe how cheap some of the items are compared to the glove and socks. Michael was such an incredible performer. Also his skin changing colors just makes him more relatable to everyone. He truly was a once in a century performer. Crazy that he and Freddy Mercury existed at the same time.
It’s true. Michael debuted the glove on The Destiny Tour in 1979. He still had his Afro; that’s how far back the glove dated. I think the Motown 25 trousers came from the 2 piece black tuxedo he wore during the performances of “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” on The Jacksons’ “Triumph Tour” in 1981.
Probably!

I remember back in the early 80's when I was in Jr High, the school that I went to had a talent show and a boy had a glove exactly looking the same as Michael Jacksons and he even had that same red Jacket dancing on stage to Michael Jackson's music 🎶 doing the moonwalk. It was entertaining. Michael Jackson really inspired people to be just like him. Michael ,May you rest in peace 💐
6:45 I think that woulda been the inspiration you were wondering about his style design, probably was hoping for a spy secret agent and the diamonds like you said would reflect on his dance style.
His Majesty, who's story just continue. Timeless.

I went to the historic Motown Museum in Detroit for my 23rd birthday back in 2018 after attending a Beyonce show in town and I saw the glove there in a glass box. It still had makeup stains and everything.
He gave that glove to the museum back in the 1990s.
I went for my 22nd birthday in 2017! I was looking for someone to comment theyve seen it in the museum as well!

the actual socks would definitely be up there, but not 1-2mil. probably relatively close to the price of the gloves im assuming, since they’re nearly as iconic and are very similar in style. i’d go as far to say they’d sell for at least 500k.
I wouldn't pay even $3 for a used smelly white sock

@@king-dl2qt it is more hypocritical to say you hate someone but at the same time you take your time to watch their videos and comment on them
@@king-dl2qt That's your opinion. You can't force someone to agree with you when your on a video all about that "clown" so, who really is the clown here? Everybody likes to talk about his first moonwalk
I think the quadruple spin to toe stand he did as a direct followup were twice as cool.
Dude spun 4 times and stopped on his toes, instantly.
Lady Gaga has a lot of Michael's pieces in a room specially made to preserve all of his jackets

Fantastic episode. Thank you!!! 🙏🏼
20/20 or 60 Minute's did a special on MJ's storage facility after his death. All his iconic clothing, car's, household items were all cataloged and held till his children decided what to do with it. They were still kid's then. His glove was in there as was his shoes he designed himself. There's no mystery about it. Besides the glove wasn't really one of a kind. He'd occasionally give them to people.
Great video!!!
I think there were alot or double of these items worn by Michael cause I remember michael did in fact wear the black sparkly jacket on his 30th celebration televised tribute special that was in 2001 for 2 concert nights in Madison Square Garden when he performed billie jean which was I believe one or the last times he performed billie Jean live in front of billions of people live in full billie Jean attire. Atleast it's one of the last documented performances that show michael performing billie jean live wearing the glove the hat and the iconic sparkly jacket..not to mention most people forget after the motown 25 performance with the reunion with his brothers. Not long after the show was a Pepsi commercial pitched to michael where he sports the billie Jean attire that he wore for the motown 25 performance but during filming of the commercial michael s hair caught fire and was rushed to the emergency room in a hospital michael on the news is seen waving to his fans with the white sparkly glove so it was evident that michael still had on the billie Jean clothing as he went into the ambulance and rushed immediately to the hospital..and none knows exactly what they did with the clothing.. so I'm guessing michael must have either altered the clothing or made many duplicate copies for future performance or something due to him being in the attire and wearing it during his major accident Pepsi burn incident.
I don’t even know how much to bet for socks, I would bet for socks ....Well, I enjoyed listening to all the details in your story.

Your videos are amazing 😍 can you please upload some best or iconic moments of MJ concert like his bday celebration or some facts about his concerts...
There should be a museum of Michael's glove costumes drawings that everyone could be able to visit
It's in Detroit...Motown
I was told by a representative at the Motown museum a while back that the glove was stolen by someone. The funny thing is that the person who stole the glove signed the guest book. Somehow they was able to retrieve the glove and since then it’s been donated to the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”. That’s what I was told by a Motown museum rep back in 2005-2006.
I love his style and clothes!
Love you Michael Jackson 💝 💝

Michael had originally given the glove to a Commodore’s member right after his performance
Another idea for upcoming videos: I always wondered where the tour stages ended up (including the floor tiles he danced on). Also the microphones - esp the silver Sony WRT67 from the Bad-Tour.

The glove he wore at Motown 25 was given to a Commodores’ member right after his Billie Jean performance. That’s why Michael didn’t wear it during the grand finale

Why did Michael where his glove on the left when he first did the moonwalk and the rest of his life he wore it on the right?
Who knows but he never did the same performance again either.
He wasn't the first to do the "moonwalk."
@@user-sm2ql7nq4l they didn't mean as "the first person ever to do the moonwalk" they meant "when he decided to add the moonwalk in his first performance of Billie Jean"
@@user-sm2ql7nq4l And Michael was given credit because he was the one to name it the moonwalk. He is half credit for it. He is the reason everyone is calling it the "moonwalk" and why everyone is doing it.
