- Welllllllcome back! In this video we talk about what exactly each stage of a Subaru is, what are the expected power levels and how much does each stage cost. Overall this is general information that I wanted to get out there as I still see some confuse in the community and wanted to do what I could to help Clear it up!
I suggest using Cobb Parts (Cobb is not sponsoring or affiliated with this video)

BEST SUBARU CHANNEL ON CZcams HANDS DOWN!!!!
Thank you! Means a lot to hear it from everyone! 😁😁😁🔥
I have to say i appreciate it when you involve both wrx and sti. You truly are great with the info. ooooooo
Thank you! And I know there are both WRX and STI owners who watch so when applicable I try to include both 😁
I test drove 2020 wrx. They did not fix rev hang. Car hangs hard and car shakes scary hard 1st to 2nd.

Yes 3 videos a week. Finally get more amazing content a week. Keep up the amazing work. The vlogs will be a great addition content
Been excited to get 3 going! The vlogs will probably be weird at first but will grow into them 😅
Enjoyed the discussion. I have all the "stage 3" goodies from Cobb and a Process West TMIC. I knew pretty well everything you said, but it was still well presented and informative. Keep it coming man.
I knew some people would know most of the info already but good to get it out there! Thank you for the support it is greatly appreciated! 🔥😁
This was a super helpful and informative summary. You seem to understand there are new people coming into the community all the time. Love your content bro. Please don't burn out.
I plan on being around for a while 😉 appreciate the support!
I love the energy that you put out brother and sharing you’re knowledge is amazing and can’t thank you enough. I keep coming back to your vid’s for info and you have never let me down. Thanks man
Excellent explanations. I did a Stage 1and 2 on my 2017 3.6 legacy. The best part wasn’t so much power but a smoother RPM range

Brandon I have a 2013 wrx with a stage 2 pro tune and I’m pushing 330
does stage 2 + from cobb void dealer warranty? just got a 2020 wrx
BoostedQuickScope There is nothing that will outright “void” your warranty. Nothing. However, if something breaks, malfunctions, etc. SOA will try and most likely succeed in linking any and all hard part modifications/ecu tuning etc. as the reason for engine failure. Best advice I can give (I have a 2019 wrx and went stage 2 over 3k miles ago) is do your research intensely and then do it some more. Welcome to the subie fam and hopefully the tuning world bro, stay safe and mod smart

I was literally just talking about this with a Friend and deciding what power level I wanted. You're a goat bro 🤘
Glad I could help! Appreciate the support 🔥🔥🔥
I would say that stage 1 is just the tune with accessport and stage 1+ is ap with intake the +1 being the intake in stages. Stage 2 is downpipe and ap (cobb supported) and stage 2+ is air intake, downpipe, and ap (maperformance) no issues here with ap readings. Stage 3 bolt ons, flex, & other supporting modifications. Just my thoughts. Good video 😎🤙
Go with Grimspeed stage packages and they’re quite different than Cobb’s.
Am confused because Cobb has stage 2+ j pipe, exhaust and intake with the access port that i guess Cobb support that

I like those white wheels! Also that 35 min drive for E85 is definitely worth it. Just fill up a couple of jugs and obviously don’t store it to long. Flex fuel was one of my favorite mods I did. The torque and power is so good!
I may end up going to E in the future but it's just a hassle for right now. Traffic is so bad on the way to the station 😅 the car would make a decent amount more power swapping over too 😫

Hey man, awesome content, love the channel. I was actually looking the other day what stages I should buy, who to buy from, etc. I think it would be really awesome to do a video on Cobb's stage 2 package versus Grimmspeed stage 3 package. Not a bad idea to compare the two! 🤔

Appreciate the support 🔥😁
From a guy at Boost Controlled Performance, you can see upwards of 350whp and 340 ftlbs of torque. Going higher than 350 torque is what causes engines to blow on stock internals. You can obviously make around 400+ with e85 BUT you need upgraded pistons and conrods.
Doesn't 2020 sti have forged pistons?
No, just a redesigned cast

Video randomly popped up in my feed. But I have a 2020 wrx. And I can assure you the rev hang was still there. Stage 1 tune made the driving so much smoother
Hey @Smeedia, I just want to make a correction on what you said:
Stage 1 for WRX: you literally only need the accessport and flash it on all stock parts, not the intake. I know "opinions" varies, but if you consult forums and reputable tuners, they'll tell you that the intake is one of the LAST mods you should do. The factory one is actually very good up to ~400HP. Cold air intake is nothing more than a sweet noise maker and at most, you'll gain 5-10hp for a $300-$400 upgrade. You're better off spending that money on a AOS and TGV/EGR delete than an aftermarket intake.
PS- I'm not biased. My WRX is a "stage 3" track-oriented car. And I have an aftermarket CAI.
Appreciate the input! When it comes to the FA I'm not too versatile with the modifications to them. Only ever had an Acessport on my old 16 WRX but always open to additions and more information to help out other owners!
Thanks for this info.
Hey yellow snow,
I am just a Subaru rookie but can you explain what an AOS and TGV/EGR delete consist of?
Stage 3 on e85 you should be making close to 400whp. Even doing the cobb flex fuel you get easily 100hp
Kris Hernandez I agree. This happened to my wrx after I went flex
Thank you for you info bro! I just bought a 2020 wrx and I can’t wait to see how far I get with it with the info I got from you!🤙🏽

Interesting to see how your power is different from my '18 STI basically at "stage 3". Yours makes more horsepower but less torque than mine. I just love the variance between all the cars!
And love the channel too btw!! I've rewatched so many videos at this point and love every minute. Thanks for being an awesome and positive creator in the community, both cars and CZcams!
Appreciate the support! The motivation from everyone has been outstanding! Really helps in creating more. The variance between the cars has always been interesting. I've done this build once before and had totally different numbers 😅
I'm going stage3 on e85 what kinda power did u make and how the car running?
@@hariskeso4183 my car makes 351whp and 403wtq at e70 and only 309whp and 353wtq on 91oct.
The car runs great and feels great with all the other driver mods I've done to it since (pitch stop mount and brace, bushings, tranny mounts, engine mount, etc). The only downside rn is Cobb's ethanol sensor failing on me but it's getting warrantied to their newest version and my fuel pump failing due to wiring and voltages/amps on the stock wiring harness for the fuel pump (aem 340). But other than those minor inconveniences, the car always puts a smile on my face every time I drive it or look at it.

Manuel Faria my honest opinion is that you should never use a OTC map for these cars, they are all to inconsistent.

Yup. I can tell he wasn’t in the Subaru scene in that early days back in its prime…that “stage” talk was is cringe then and our cringe now 😂
I don’t even talk in stages but it’s easy to know what’s done if you say stage 1 Cobb. You don’t have to list every freaking mod that’s even more “cringe” than using the word cringe. You know what’s done and about what power it has.

"Stages" can vary so much, are inaccurate, and are pretty much pointless in my opinion. Marketing nonsense.

@@Smeedia Btw what mods would you recommend to make the STI a better daily? Like quality of life mods.
Looping what are your goals for the car? Daily, track, both? Are you going to keep it long term? I would start with a catback and cylinder 4 cooling mod (GetaDomTune). Also if you do get an accessport GET A PRO TUNE!!!
Love your channel bro. Keep it up. I want to get my STI already!
Thank you! The motivation is strong from everyone! Soon, when are you planning on snagging it?!
Smeedia when you said after stage one did you mean it has 255whp or it gains 255? Cause that’s crazy both ways lol. That just stage one the wrx has more power and torque then the sti
It has roughly 255WHP 🙏😁
Hey man I got a quick question for you. My tuner recommended a Boost Controller before I get my car stage 1+ tuned. What are your thoughts about this? They said it was just to make it so the tuner can control the boost better. Just wanted to get your thoughts before I buy and Install one.
This is a very informative video bro! I just bought a 2020 sti and waiting to arrive, I’m gathering parts but I’m still deciding wether I wanna go stage 2 on the Sti or stage 3, I want power like anyone else but as well brutal sound.
Eyyy congrats on the car!!!! 😁😁😁
What do you consider as far as stage goes when I do the new motor re inforcing the motor and a 65mm turbo and all the correct things to do that. I was told that I should have about 500 to 550hp
Your content is amazing! The amount of detailed information, doing pro/con of mods, and emphasis on getting the correct parts and installing them with care, sets you far above most other WRX-related channels! You have become my advisor for tuning my 2017 rexie. (26500 miles, Stage 1+)
I'm waiting on some parts, jpipe, charge pipes, bigger tmic, and possible cat/axle back or single exhaust to save weight. Can you tell me your opinion of the single pipe exhausts available, and can I use one without being obnoxiously loud? I have zero exterior modifications and want to stay sleeper (not that any WRX is a sleeper, but you get me)
As long as it's got a decent muffler and resonator it shouldent be too loud 🔥🙏
@@Smeedia Excellent and thanks! I'm also going Collin Chapmam on mine, I want to get at least 200 lbs out of the car, but I also want to keep it fun and relatively comfortable to daily drive.

@smeedia Can I do the Accessport, Intake, catless downpipe, up pipe with external wastgate, and exhaust with tune all at once?
Hey so as of right now at home I have my downpipe waiting to be installed on my 21 STI so in that case I'd need to get new injectors and etc for me to run that down pipe?
Question when should you put a ELH for wrx 2020? Would that go under stage 3?
Nice video. I guess I can say possible I’m “stage 3” lol 😂 but it was nice to know the differences with what everyone talks about.
This guys super insightful but also hilarious
🙏🙏🙏🙏
According to the Cobb website, the stage 1 tune appears to run on a stock air filter and box. Am I interpreting this correctly?
So is that added power is that what your expected power total is like stage 2 can expect 315 max or will that be how much power you can get with that added so stock wrx is 268 hp will stage 2 push that only to 315 or will it go higher
Thanks for this.
Anytime!
My 2017 STI had a 340 l/h fuel pump first - my tuner advised that even with a stage 1 tune they are prone to failure
Great channel! Thank you! How would you approach heatsoak issues when removing stock AF for, let's say the Cobb upgrade?
Air box should help with heat soak and if your still having issues I would try the gold reflective tape 😁
Thank you!
Hey man so I noticed I have aftermarket air intake and a map down pipe but haven't made it to the fuel system yet. I spun a rod bearing and am trying to see if this was an issue. Should I keep running the map downpipe or swap back in an OEM also what fuel parts would you recommend added
I would swap back to thr OEM one if you plan on keeping ghr stock fuel system. Of your gling to do injectors, pump and FPR then you can use both
Great video awesome explanation, glad I found this channel,I'm probably the oldest one here at 51
Thank you.

I have a 2014 wrx . I have an invidia r300 or r400 with cobb cold air intake and an access port. Can I go stage 2 without a boost controller?.
I got a 2016 sti with sf Cobb intake and turbo back catted down pipe. I just bought a aem fuel pump with 1050cc injectors with adapters. You think I would run stage 2 + until I get the rest of my fuel upgrades? Also do I need something specific to connect the new injectors with?
Your going to need at minimum an Etune to properly scale the injectors 🙏
The new FA 24 motors for the WRX and STI are hopefully going to be alot of fun.
This comment unfortunately aged like milk. RIP STI.
this was great and thank you for breaking it all down with the costs. Would you consider an upgraded header? I hear it can boost your power.
Yes, depending on how much power you want to make its a great way to make more power 🔥🙏
Hey so I bought a tomei when I first bought my 18 wrx will having a cat back exhaust on a stage 1 tune mess anything up?
No it will not 🙏
I'm glad to see Cobb doubled and trippled their stage prices for no reason.
I’d advocate for intercooler as soon as you start modding your car. Oem intercoolers struggle stock in general let alone with more power. Add ETS front mount/tmic to one of the first things you do. Doesn’t change noise or power, but it lets you keep things cooler which is super important. And in turn helping power more consistently
That's the whole reason I went FMIC, keep IATs lower and get sway from the heat soak
Smeedia new video suggestion would be top mount vs front mount. Muy importantay for the people’s

Hey dude! Love all your videos, great learning lessons. I'm running a 2006 WRX Limited w/DC Short Ram Intake, STI intercooler, Exedy Stage 1 clutch, and COBB AP. FINALLY getting it dyno tuned in a few weeks to Stage 1+. I've already taken care of all the general maintenance (timing belt, head gaskets, etc.) but the engine has approximately 180K on it....This will be the last engine mod because Betsy ain't no spring chicken anymore but wanted to know your opinion about the upgrade and what to avoid with a high-mileage engine. Thanks in advance!
Tbh milage doesn't really matter, as long ad the engine is healthy send it 💪
I just bought a 2017 wrx and i had no information really on what is done on it, it has all stock and not tunes on it but i noticed the exhuast sounded funny and it has cattless j pipe into a stock axle back Exhaust so its sounds super tinny and its stock with no tune, what are the steps you think to make it proper get cat back exhaust and the and intake and get it tuned?
Definitely add a resonator, will help to clean up the ting sounds, catback, intake and you can just use an OTS Tune 🙏
I just made my 13 WRX STI flex fuel, 1050 injectors, FPR, Fuel sensors for E85, DW 300 pump, IAG TV's, IAG fuel rails... I was able to hit the 350whp. I'm super happy with the tune and how it performs.
Sounds like a fun build! Big jump over factory power 🔥
It is! Plus my fuel economy jumped from 12mpg to 16.2
