UCLA is public college, not sure where private property come in. and also, the focus is on the war, we should put emphasis on the innocent life that the student tuition fee help slaughter rather than the minor property damage that they cause.
Without the unjustifiable war, none of this would happen. Now more student are engaged with the cause and the local union is preparing to stike b/c of the police crackdown, so the police crack down had the opposite effect.
I would paraphrase MLK Jr writing during the civil right movemet and I hope we learn from our past: one should strive for a peace under positive justice, not the pursuit of forced stability.

I work in campus dining at a private college.
EVERY STUDENT knows they're required to clear out within 48 hours of the end of finals.
UCLA waited them out and now that they refused to leave they can have them removed for treaspassing.
Now the homeless can go to the dump and upgrade their living conditions 100 % , thanks to the students donation of all these supplies .
When I was in my teens, my father told me if I ever get arrested, "You don't live here and have no parents, don't ever bring the cops home." LOL.
I told my kids the same thing and I mean it. I will not speak to my kids and they will never be welcome in my home if they ever join these protests. They know I mean it. They will never get my help for anything. I never gave them any money for college anyway. I paid 100 percent of my college and they can do the same.

@@matthiatt6834 The BLM riots actually did a lot to get PD's all over the country more training in dealing with protests and changed a ton of policy for the better, safer for protesters and cops. Detroit in particular now has cops inside of the protests with the protesters to pick out bad actors like the guys shooting off fireworks and throwing things. They also work on directing protests into dispersal areas instead of attempting mass incarcerations. There's use of smoke still, but that's mostly to get people to move how they want. I've had a couple cops as peripheral friends of friends for a long time, and we've definitely clashed on policies over the years, but they've really cracked down on the corruption and bad policies over the past 10 years. It helps getting younger people into the police force to get older violent cops behind a desk.

Differential treatment for wealthier people is a problem all around, especially in our judiciary these days. We NEED good cops to clean this quagmire up and restore trust in the shield.
Keep in mind that some are really Columbia students, so there was a chance of wealthy families that can afford a legal process to sue the cops.

Peaceful protests are legal however you do not have the right to block people from going about their daily lives. A two year old could tell you this is wrong with two words, “NO NO”.

If there are any protesting types in the comment section, I feel like I should advise you that discharging a fire extinguisher at police constitutes battery on an LEO, which is a felony charge, and every single person in that crowd may be charged with the offense under a theory of accomplice liability; one charge for each discharge. Now the LA county prosecutor won't bring those charges, but if you are in a law and order jurisdiction, expect to spend years in prison for participating. Basically, if unlawful activity starts taking place, that is your cue to leave or else risk being brought up on charges.

Look up their protest rules. They are not supposed to be on the grounds without permission. They can set up on a side wall with permission. It can’t slow or stop foot traffic at all. A permit is required in many protests but any sidewalk is fair game but you can NOT slow or impede foot traffic.

I'd like to know exactly how many of these people ARE actually students.
People who keep saying it's a public space need to really check the laws they are trying to invoke. There is a law that specifically allows campuses to put "Reasonable time and place restrictions" on protests. They aren't allowed to single out specific sides, and if people feel like they are being singled out, there are organizations to contact to settle it. If you just protest anyways, they it's perfectly lawful for you to be removed for trespassing. Judging by all that is happening around there, vandalism and littering is also a viable accusation as well. Also you can't just camp out in any public space, campus or not. This is one of the main issues with the Just Stop Oil group.

Do your research of protests in the 70s. They baricaded the dean in his office and did not just take over buildings. Keep that in mind when they decide you're no better than a Muslim and come for you.
