    I recently bought a bone-stock 98.5 five-speed. I’ve installed a 4in straight pipe and just got my FASS lift pump delivered today, both are from you guys. Very excited that you started this video series just before I start my quest for power.
    If you could, please address limiting factors like when you need headstuds or other components for reliability, or egt safety parameters. Thanks for being a solid and informative company by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts.

      40-50 psi of boost is when you wanna start putting head studs in on these trucks

      @@square348apple3 I pushed 44psi and crazy high EGT till I put a bigger turbo , never had head gasket issue , 230K miles on a ... gasp ... 53 block ... gasp ...

      @@dartgts383 and a blind squirrel finds a blind nut ecery once in a while lol... 99 times out of 100 if you push 45 psi your gonna blow the head gasket. o ring heads and arp studs is just safe anyways, especially if you plan to add more in the future.
      53 blocks are hit and miss. mine went 320k. there were some that went 20k, some still at 200k, some as high as 700k. alot broke and some didnt. they made hundreds of thousands of these engines lol.

    I used to hear from haters how my budget crower 'neon' valve springs were going to wear out my cam etc. and break my truck. LOL 9 years later still runnin just fine. Last dyno run was 576hp, 1285tq on a SO-VP44 fuel only. (adrenaline, compound twins, 6x.013 injectors and supporting mods like push rods, head studs, DD clutch, 150gph lift pump, gauges, etc.)
    Keep these VP44 vids comin'! good to see these old trucks still getting some love.

    Well it was about 13 years ago, but this affirms my thought that I doubled my torque when I installed an adrenaline on my '01 came with a decent fuel economy gain as well. Tough to argue with the bang for buck improvement of that little box. 👍

      Why , the newer engines are just turned up 5.9's. The reason the 12v and 24v's were lower power was because Chrysler didn't put a transmission behind it capable of handling the potential. the 5.9 24v in it's non Dodge form was 275HP with an automatic , not 215hp .

      The quadzilla is where its at. The tunability is second to none, I would highly recommend. I had a smarty, then zilla, would never go back.

      @@logut80 its not even comparable, your smarty will only do 65hp tops, the quadzilla is as much as 150hp, in a perfect world. It might be smokey at first, may need some custom tuning. Which I would recommend pdd, or 1badvp44. For all your tuning needs.

    You have a very generous dyno. I'm running, 62/64/.89ar Garrett, 7/.011 DDP sticks, edge comp box, and the best I've ever gotten was 460/1140..

    I recently got my quadzilla installed and with the turbo tuner set to 40 the most im seeing is 28 psi of boost. Ive checked for leaks and came up empty. What could be holding it back. 16 psi of fuel pressure with a fass titanium. Clean filter. Fresh hx35.

    Thanks for this video! Appreciate it, especially the chart. It would be nice to see the dyno plots overlaid. Especially the s60 vs the k27, this makes it obvious that there is more to power then just boost PSI. At what point are the OEM injectors holding power back?

    Did it have RV injectors or something? You put to the tires what the engine was rated and thru an auto. I ran several of these trucks on the dyno back in 98 and it was a really good one to put over 200hp to the tires all stock. Most were about 190-195rwhp

      His trans is built prolly has a better converter just doing that can add hp an torque believe it or not plus he added a boost elbow to up the stock to from 22psi too 35 roughly

      @@KJR-uv6or They were run in lockup so I wouldn't think a built trans would add much power also just cranking up the boost with no more fuel will add no more power and usually hurts it instead because you raise back pressure and intake temps.

      It has a 4" exhaust, cold air intake, and boost elbow, and lift pump.. hitting 26 psi vs 21 stock, we too were surprised with the higher than stock power numbers. All of the testing and gains were on the same dyno so fairly solid results.

    This may be a stupid question, but...curious how that baseline run was 234hp to the wheels? I thought that year was only 235 crank hp stock. years ago, I ran my 99 with an Edge EZ and only put down 205hp 500tq at the first Weekend on The Edge.

    What kind of drive pressures were you guys seeing with the bigger injectors while using the stock HX-35? I was running 75 hp injectors with my stock HX-35 and blew the majority of my exhaust valve seals.

    Hey, what boost did it make with the injectors? I have a banks intake ram, afe cold air, bd manifold and 100hp injectors I’m only getting 38-40psi on the hx35 on level 10

      Those HO VP44 trucks struggle to get past 500 rear wheel HP. Our guess would be 500 HP on that setup, fuel limited by the pesky HO injection pump that runs great in every condition except maximum HP.

    Oh damn, I have a 98.5 motor with mystery 100hp injectors and head studs I'll be swapping into my truck this fall and I found a nice he351cw I threw on it. I would love to see a run with that turbo as I have that and it's a readily available for others to consider for a swap. I wired the motor to run stand alone as it's going into my 93 ford and I'm wondering how the adrenaline plugs in and if I can plug it into the obd port I'll be wiring in when I install it.

    Loving the VP content.. hopefully possible quick question for you. I have a bone stock 02, 3500 6 speed with a adrenaline tuner on it. I don't have custom mapping on it yet but you said you was seeing 36lbs of boost. At full kill I'm still only seeing 26lbs. Do I have my sensor set up wrong or do I have something else going on?

    I'm late seeing this , what was done to the engine to get those stock numbers , thats a 215 at the crank engine with 20psi max boost ? I just bought a stock 98.5 2wd with 172k miles , I forgot how SLOW they are , my 2000 4x4 was 525 crank HP ...

    My truck is bone stock. I only make 17 psi boost at the most. It’s a 98 24v does that psi sound right to y’all?

    I assume the tuner was on max setting. What would be a relatively safe setting for the stock engine (not trans), and what numbers do you think it'd pull?

    Great video, my 98.5 4x4 A/T with 3.55 and the same stuff on it. K27, quadzilla, 75HP injectors with FASS pump, ARP headstuds, 4" ex., S&B cold air intake with ATI bigger Intercooler, adrenaline on full kill, I can get 46psi of boost. EGT'S get over 1600* though. Lol What would you think the HP & torque could be?

      We've seen 24v trucks with K27 and heavy fueling hit 490 HP or so... you're probably really close to that power level.

    I've got a 94 12 valve and I just did 4k governor springs in it aswell as a #0 fuel plate, bumped up fuel via the afc a little, and set it at 15.5 degrees of timing. My question is it revs higher than it did before, but ive only seen 2600 rpm so far. I've got the springs clicked in 3 clicks aswell which is recommended. It definitly has more power, and revs a lot quicker, just doesn't even get to 3k rpm. Truck is an auto btw. What do you guys think could be the issue?

      Will it free rev above 2600 rpm in neutral? Those early 160hp pumps need excellent lift pump feed pressure to fuel well in the 3000+ rpm range. I'd check fuel pressure while under a load and see if it's falling off. Best bet is to measure at the pressure test port on the fuel filter and run the gauge out onto the windshield and pin it under the wiper blade so you can see it while you test drive. If it's falling below 25 psi, that's your problem. If you want to get more higher rpm performance out of it, go with a hotrod lift pump and higher psi overflow valve set to about 45 psi and it will really come to life!

      My truck is planned to come back and do a lot more testing, we have a new set of nozzles we want to test. since we shot this video I have added compounds and 7x.010 and the truck moves better then it ever has and it struggles to make 1300 egt's

    Hey i have the same truck all stock with an edg comp tuner. It Rips! But am I hurting my truck with this tuner? I have a lift pump pooshing 20 psi, i dont know its flow. So now i have ben having this problem, cutting out completely, truck shuts off completely out of nowhere when i get on it. Like at setting number 5 and i do a pull, as soon as boost kicks in and im rippen its like i loose fuel and just cuts out. Hope all that makes sence. Im woundering if i have shot my injection pump. I have fuel pressure and good filter...😩 help☹️

      @@pddofficial not when i let out, when im on it, like led foot. When it happens I tune my edge tuner back down to setting 1 and baby the gas, keeping my foot out of it, if i get into the gas more it Will intermittently sputter almost like a lack of fuel and all of this is an intermittent issue sometimes it does it sometimes not.

      @@pddofficial I may try to get a digital fuel gauge that I know is a good quality fuel pressure gauge. And tap into my fuel line just after my fuel filter on its way to the injection pump, to get a digital reading of exactly what my fuel pressure is post injection pump. Do let me know if you have any other ideas. Thank you for replying and helping do a little diagnoses here. Let me know if I'm wasting my time with my idea
