I’m the one and only EarthQuest dev, thanks to JayBratt for being the first CZcamsr to talk about EarthQuest, Marketing for EQ has just begun and it’s really tough to deal with all the critics, but this video right here and the RoadToVR article that’s recently been posted helps me a ton !
In case anyone here doesn’t know much about EarthQuest yet:
EarthQuest is by far the best travelling experience ever created for VR, community rated as “Far Better than the official Google Earth on PC” and reviewed as “Standalone but with much better graphics than the PC Google Earth VR” .
Leaving comparison aside, EarthQuest is not just a Google Earth clone for standalone, it’s designed to have every possible feature implemented for every possible use case, whether you want to pretend you’re a super hero above realistic cities with a ChatGPT assistant that can see, hear, and talk in any language, want to explore any city in 3D alongside your friends, or want to fly over and walk around your childhood neighbourhood or home town like you were actually there with a StreetView Portal at your hand, EarthQuest does everything you can imagine.
It’s been updated daily and weekly for 4 months and has been in development for over a year now, being an VR enthusiast myself I don’t want to pay double to triple for just a quarter of what’s truly possible, EarthQuest ACTUALLY offers the limits of what’s achievable in VR at the cheapest possible price for everyone to experience.

How does it differ from Wander? Things like this are the closest I'll get to traveling the world so if it's a smoother experience, then that might mean jumping over to EarthQuest
@@The_Keh27Wander is more polished for close up stuff. This is better for feeling like you're awesomely flying around, but in some places you're seeing less detail. Like you might see the roof of your old high school, rather than look at it straight on. They're both very worth having.

They're slowly making the UI slightly better. Still waiting for "airplane mode", mixed reality augments and app library app sorting.

Check the experimental settings on your quest for "travel mode" as I have used it.

I'm so not interested in Quest+ because once you download a game and don't want it, the icon/thumbnail stays on your apps page, even though the game has been deleted. Meta needs to allow us to fully delete content. I have numerous demo games and ended up buying the full version, yet still have the demo icon on my apps page taking up space (and memory)!
You can sort it to show only installed apps. Once I log on, i switch to show updates, update them, and go back to only installed apps.

Good to hear. I got a Quest 3 a few days ago and thought of subscribing to Quest+ (as it reminds me of the old PS+ subscription I had for my PS4). But this changes my mind.
Wander has been a very good Google Earth alternative on Quest 2 and 3. I showed my mom her birthplace down to the street and was able to toggle the years to see how it changed over time.
It's quite magical.
It’s just images, which you can also get in EarthQuest as a Hand Portal for Place Identification or viewing community made panoramas at a lower res. EarthQuest is simulating actually being there realistically except you can physically fly anywhere on earth with almost any city being in 3D.
Updates are coming out really fast..

With their coming OS distribution I guess they expanded their teams. Better for us players probably.
In watching this video, it was great to hear that you guys mentioned the icon sizes. On the Meta Quest forums I’ve been trying to push for screen reader support. This would help those with low vision interact with the menus easily. Whether it’s hovering over an item and gaining, audio feedback of what you’re on or using the thumb stick to slide through the menus and hear information read aloud. This would give many of us an equal opportunity to enjoy the experience. I have enough eyesight to see the visuals, but don’t have enough to read the small print.this takes away from my experience and the experience of many others. Please cover more updates as they come up around visual improvements. This helps me out great

Being able to look at screens in pass through is definitely nice now but the fact that it’s way dimmer in lighting that isn’t ultra bright is bothering me. So I‘m hopeful that it’s getting better again.

I knew I wasn't crazy, I noticed my pass-through being dimmer in my low light environments too than it really is compared to previous updates...

v64 introduced a weird glare from light coming through my semisheer cellular shades. I actually thought I had a smudge on my lens. I now have to stop using passthrough during the day.

Google Earth wasnt on Quest, but Wander VR was, and it is fantastic to visit places in single or multiplayer. Especially because it has the "history" feature which lets you see places from Google Maps from the last years till back in 2008.
My meta app on pc just stopped working. tryied everething and more and nothing fixes it
The v65 update (at least on Quest 3) seems to be causing major issues if you're using the Quest Pro Controllers. They will usually activate and have working buttons, but won't track or even show up. Only solution thus far is resetting the headset, the controllers, or both. If the headset goes to sleep or you swap to hand tracking, its very likely the controllers will again refuse to track and require another round of resetting.
My testing has been limited but it doesn't seem like an isolated issue.

For s**** and giggles I signed up for the public test channel and the next day I got update 65. Now every time I put on the headset which I usually leave on plugged into a slow charger, I have to restart the headset in order for my pro controllers to turn on. V65 on Quest 3.
Pro controllers are basically effed up RN. They literally work on a crit from either a d12 or a d20 roll. And when they do, the next time you pick them up, they're dead again. But the Oculus button still works evertime, so it's something with the tracking and I suspect the mixed tracking (1 controller + hand stuff) is somehow causing it, because that's a new feature. In other words, they didn't even bother testing their update with the Pros... BTW leaving (in passthrough) or disabling the guardian in dev options is a safe recipe to temporaritly kill the Pros with this update.
Also, with the Pros, I'm basically locked down to 72Hz. I actually went and re-paired the Standard controllers for the time being. No constant issues with the detection and I kan haz 90+ Hz. Hope they'll get it sorted soon.
Calf content would be great, stereoscopic 3D content needs to make a comeback especially now that there's a VR market to make use of it.

Good passthrough is easy, especially with how the cameras line up with your eyes on the quest 3.

As someone that has a (aging) Index from 2021, it's not advisable to buy one. Valve stopped production as they never ordered parts. No more new Indexes.
8:08 Earth is really cool. But isn't there a much better version for PCVR, that of course makes use of the higher rendering power? It seems that all the textures and models a very undetailed on the Quest. Understandably so.

Unfortunately now with new updates I can’t install mods to my games within the oculus and it’s messed with some in game mod menus
you can still mod standalone. A bit tricky though. watty paddy covers how, despite it being for questcraft, it should help ypu as well :)

I just got a quest 2 because my other one broke from a jammed volume button and other things it was a replacement sent to be my meta now I just got this new one and the screen is super shaky dude meta sucks
So I saw this google map api thing like a week ago and made a gorilla tag based game with it and it works and it’s super fun

I just recently had a Steam Hardware Survey rolling in and it was the first time ever this happened to me while having a headset connected. It showed up there as "Oculus Meta Quest 3". Yeah! ᕳᕲ
because it is still the oculus team, just bigger and funded by zuck

I let my Quest plus end. May's bonus games aren't of interest to me (already have vacation simulator on psvr.) Even Tetris Effect feels better playing with a dualshock controller. The spatial videos are cool. discovered the demo vids while exploring through menus and they were pretty funky. No iphone to make my own though. As for the google earth thing - I've had Wander for a while and that's basically the same, albeit with no smooth movement.
I'll get my V65 a few days before V66 comes out.
Instead of making a Quest 3 lite i would prefer a program to get a discount on a quest 3 if i gave my quest 2.

Also for me rhe best selling point for Quest+ for me rn is ya get a $25 gift card if ya do the year subscription, so $35 for a year isn't bad at all imo.
i sold mine before quest 3 released for $700 so I could buy quest 3 on launch... but if valve lowered the price to $500 for a new complete kit i'd buy it again for sure

Don't ever use 360VR. Both the hardware *and* website cannot offer good 360 stereoscopic 3D. That'd have to be a minimum of 32K resolution, basically. 8K 180 is where it's at for now. When you go from 180 to 360 it literally requires more than twice the amount of pixels - otherwise going from 180 to 360 will be twice as blurry.

Should I get the Quest 2 or Pico 4 in 2024? I'm new to VR and I want a VR that I can watch movies on it or occasionally playing games with friends. However looking at the price of the two here in Australia, the Quest 2 is something like 375$ and Pico 4 is 695$. I don't know if I should buy Pico 4 which have better lenses and resolution or Quest 2?
