Great review, thank you! I have to choose between this and the XPS 13 for web development. Obviously the 13's advantage is its size and weight. Given I won't be gaming, do I need to worry about the heat of the 15 slowing me down? Will the 13 actually perform better since it has dual fans but doesn't have the heftier GPU heating it up? Just need something that works faster than I can which is not the case with the Latitude 7370.

Just bought one XPS 15 9570 for simple family videos editing after viewing this review and a bunch of other similar reviews. I tried it with several free video software to select the most suitable for my needs (Davinci resolve, openshot etc.) but I am very disappointed...Something's wrong. It's Lagging and the sounds cut when I check my videos preview while editing if im trying to add a filter or something else than the video itself and soundtrack. I'm far away of being an expert in video editing and that's why I related on those reviews to buy my computer wich was suppose to be Amazing even in 4k! I don't understand...any ideas ? My set-up and historic resume... XPS 15 9570 (2018) 4k display with the i7 / 16GB Ram/Nvidia gtx 1060Ti / 128 SSD / (not loaded...have external hard drive but put the videos i am working on on my SSD), Docking station TB16 (lagging when plugged in and unplugged too...). Made all the BIOS and updates possibles trough Nvidia, Windows and Dell prior starting using it...(Mid-January). Editing MTS video files from a Canon cam...expecting burning blue rays disc. (Sorry for my english) Thanks

    Thaanks !

    • @benhasselbring1205
      @benhasselbring1205 Před 4 lety

The XPS 15 is, sadly, not a gaming laptop, even though it CAN game. The thermal design can't keep it cool under heavy load for long periods of time, so your fps will drop. Also, the 1050ti is quite a bit behind the 1060. It CAN play games, just not super intense stuff. If you would consider yourself a gamer, go for the ASUS. If you game periodically and focus more on content creation and want an (this is an opinion) all around better laptop, buy either the Dell or the Razer. The Blade 15 IS a gaming laptop, it just fits in better with the premium, sleek laptop category rather than the laptop that is designed specifically for gpu work and not much else. The Razer and XPS have good battery life (while the ASUS won't last very long at all. Gaming laptop battery life is usually so short that the fact that it can be used away from a wall plug is more of a bonus than anything else). They have 4k screen options. They won't feel like overkill when you pull them out in a coffee shop. They won't cause back pain if you carry them around.
In conclusion, if you are a hardcore, dedicated gamer that is okay with an aggressive, over the top gamer aesthetic and doesn't need good battery life and probably won't be bringing their laptop anywhere, consider the Asus HERO. If you have a huge budget want a thin and light laptop with a sleek, modern design, that can handle heavy gaming and animation, get the Razer. If you have a decently big budget and you want a thin and light laptop that can game adequately and edit video just as well, go with the XPS. If you want a 4k screen, definitely get the XPS unless you are planning on spending the $2900 necessary to get a 4k panel on the Razer.

My comment on owning a 1080P XPS 15 for nearly 4 months. Potential buyers PLEASE read this before considering on buying one. Because after experiencing both pros and cons, I sometimes even wondered if buying this machine was the smartest choice ever or not.
    Pros:
-Weight 1.8 KG (College books and this laptop weigh in nearly 5KG to me.)
-Battery is a tank ( 6.5 hrs for watching videos, 11 hrs for Microsoft Word, 6-7 hrs for Google Docs)
-Keyboard is one of the best. I've tried so many kinds of mechanical keyboard and chiclet style keyboards, this is just my favorite. (This is just a personal opinion so take it with a grain of salt.)
    -Audio is crisp
-Screen is sharp and colour accuracy is on point.
    Cons:
-Speakers. I have no idea how but there is a crackling sound almost every time audio is being played whether via speaker or through headphone jack. I really have no idea how reviewers didn't even experience this issue. I've tried every solution people and tech support have given and it is still there. It's amazing how you pay 1700$ or more for a machine that can't even play audio without cracking. Even cheaper laptops have no cracking noises
-The carbon fibre finish is just a smudge magnet. I have to clean the palm rest and nearby area every few days just because it is irritating.
-Finger print scanner is nothing but looks. It rarely recognizes my fingerprint in one try. Often times taking more than 5 tries.
-Too thin for it's hardware. No doubt it is light, but performance needs to pay its price. Every time I fire up a game (even if the game is more than 10 years old and not demanding), the fan sounds like F-16 jets preparing for takeoff. To make things worse, I live in a country where the only season I have is summer, temperatures will surely reach higher levels which causes me to undervolt it.

my guess is he was talking about the older macbook pro keyboards.. they are not great, but not as horrible as the new ones. In fact that is one of the major reasons when a mac user doesn't upgrade for many years, not only do you lose the older style keyboards but you get a touchbar instead - which means you are losing an entire row of keys and instead would have to look down every time you hit a key. That said, being a mac user is all about living with inconveniences - that's what you do when you put fashion ahead of usability.

I can't figure out if it's a driver problem or what but the color saturation and hue, especially of the color red keeps changing with different updates. I've tried calibrating the monitor but the problem persists. Dell premium color sucks so bad, when I change from vibrant to rec709 for example, absolutely nothings changes, the gamma and colors remain the same!! You can connect a USB SSD like the Samsung T5. Performs like an internal SATA SSD (550MB/s) but connects through USB. This is a bit inconvenient since it hangs off the side and you’ll always have a USB port busy. Best Buy has it on sale for nearly half off, can get it in 256/512/1TB/2tb.

I'm a 9570 owner and this laptop is a nightmare. Quality control on this device sucks and buying one is literally a gamble. In FHD models backlight bleed can be really bad. Not to mention DCP latency issues and audio crackling. And by the way, Dell screws up the BIOS in every update. They've messed already with the sleep states (it can cook itself inside your backpack) and the GPU setpoint, and many more issues with the 4K models (blown colors, glitchy touchscreens). People have been complaining for months on Dell's forums, Twitter and Reddit and they just keep ignoring their userbase. Never buying a Dell again.

Am a MBP 15 user for the past 10 years. I decided to give it a go and bought myself a Dell XPS 15 (9560) One year ago. The honeymoon last 3 to 4 months max, then I started to miss Macos. The built and feel of the xps is a macbook pro killer hands down, however, one needs to be a Windows fan to enjoy the xps to its fully IMO. For Macos users like me, the gorgeous minimal look, feel and built of the xps will wear off after a while. I have had many issues with the wifi, which is a shared observation from other owners of the xps. The speakers which I agree, are not exceptional to begin with, are getting worse one year later too.

I had this XPS for five months. I had many issues. It didn’t recognise the charger. The screen
bleed made watching videos and Netflix a pain, not the great experience I was
expecting from a high end laptop. The sound went crazy after a bios update four
weeks ago. Dell sent a tech guy to replace the motherboard, the screen and the
speakers. BitLocker had been set up by Dell so when the new components were
replaced the laptop was locked. Dell solution was a fresh install of Windows.
All my info would be wiped……NOT GOOD! I had done my research but Dell are doing
