What laptop do you have right now? 🤔
CORRECTION 1: Undervolting won't damage your laptop, but can cause BSODs and crashes. Generally -100mv is safe)
CORRECTION 2: It was actually a crappy Killer WiFi chip on the 9570, I replaced it with a good Intel chip. My mistake! But the Killer chip here works well.

Returned my XPS15 7590 (OLED) today. The screen itself was incredibly beautiful, everything popped and media was a joy to watch. Unfortunately thermals were catastrophic...
I achieved a stable undervolt of -0.115v on CPU and undervolted + underclocked the GPU, testing with fans forced to be at 100%, setup laptop on cold surface and this device was unable to operate with normal temps under light use.
Having multiple applications open (Chrome w 10+ tabs, word, excel, outlook) in a work situation had CPU bouncing off its temp limit. Light gaming at 1080p on 8+ year old games (eg Diablo 3 low settings) caused thermal throttling after 2mins of playtime.
Yes I understand that this is not a gaming laptop, but spending $3500+ AUD you would expect it to do some basics. When not throttled, the 1650gtx has enough juice to give me 200+fps, but when throttled drops to 300mhz and 5-10fps.
First time trying Dell, also the last.

i9 performance with undervolt is good though.

Even worse I’ve had the XPS 14 for 4 years before this thing was unveiled and it had virtually the same palmrest material - 8 years dealing with this and I hate it! I sincerely hope the next XPS 15 palmrest is aluminum or something that doesn’t get immediately caked with fingerprints and grease stains

So one year after purchasing my dell XP’s 15 9570 back in 2019 I found out that this laptop has so many performance problems. You need to constantly dust the inside of it to prevent the laptop from overheating and reapply cooling paste. If you are not knowledgeable about computer hardware do not purchase from dell. This video only covers it out of the box not a year later. I used this channel and several others to help influence my decision what laptop to buy and am really disappointed that it never discussed how the laptops perform years later. After my warranty expired within a year I was faced with so many problems meanwhile my hp envy back from 2013 is having less internal problems.

XPS 15 users should undervolt their CPU AND GPU themselves for better performance......Every laptop chip is different, All laptops have different undervolt limits that can only be discovered with extensive testing, something that would take too much time on the manufacturing chain...some OEMs just apply a -100mv undervolt to their CPUs which should work for 95% to 99% of laptops......My current Laptop (Aero 15) has a maximum stable undervolt of (-135mv)....(-140 to -168) will crash randomly.....(-169) and more will cause instant crashing.
My previous laptops had limits of -125, -110, -150, -170 (highest ever).
      I undervolted my 80W GTX 1060. It does base boost clock of 1670 at 900mv........to 1890 around 1150mv.......I literally turned it into a 60W 1060 max-q (loses 10% performance)
I looked up the 1060 max-q, it has a maximum clock speed of around 1480mhz.......So I played with the voltage curve and limited it from 1670 to 1480 max clock speed.....at 0.750mv.......150mv below the 900mv of the default 1670.
The results are amazing.......Playing Assasins Creed Origins at stock......GPU was pulling about 75 to 78W average......around 87W max/peak.
Now when gaming it pulls about 52W to 55W average (62W is the maximum/peak power I've ever seen now.
      so
      1) Turning my 80W 1060 into a 60W 1060 max-q via a msi afterburner profile.
      2) Undervolting my i7-8750H by -135mv core, -135mv cache, -125mv intel igpu.
      3) And also limiting my CPU from 3.9Ghz to 3.5Ghz with throttlestop when gaming.
      4) Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut repaste.
When gaming with default fans (never max)....CPU temps stay in the 75 to 78C range.
GPU stays in the 72 to 77C range.
The laptop body feels warm, never hot.......and the fans are inaudible with the speakers active.
All this and I can still play AAA games at high settings 60fps......Thin and light gaming laptops are awesome....but they need tuning and a lot of TLD (Tender Loving Care).
