Cedar Catio Build (Part 2) - Catio Tunnel

- We connected our catio to our house with a tunnel. The tunnel and catio were made entirely out of cedar. With exception to the angled portion of the tunnel that connects directly to the catio, this tunnel was built according to plans purchased from Catio Spaces (link below). Enjoy!

Cedar has such a great colour and I like the width and height of the walkways.

Joshua, this is what is such an enjoyable video to watch because of the cats, being shown, your family, the great music and especially showing us the detail that you went into the building is that specifically the way you customized the tunnel. Thank you for sharing also with us that you got your plans with catio spaces. I’ve been tinkering with the idea of getting some plans from them. This really helps. But even with the plans nothing can be done without great workmanship and care. Thank you for showing us what genuine excellence is.

Thanks so much! I learned a few things building the catio. I used Thompson's Water Seal on the wood for the catio... long story short, it is not a good product! I'm glad I switched to a different stain for the tunnels.

You should build these as a side job. A guy on Instagram builds these and gave me an estimate of $7k to build coming about 1/3 of the size as yours.

Where did you learn your wood working skills? Very impressive. What kind of wire did you use for this and where did you get it? Thank you.
Thank you! My father-in-law introduced me to wood working and gave me enough basic knowledge to start a project on my own. From there, I've relied on youtube and the internet to keep learning. You can find the wire at Lowe's.. it's got a nice vinyl coating so it won't rust. I believe this is it:

The tunnels are everything! Question though... why the decision to put screening on one side of the main "catio", yet hardware cloth on the rest?
I'm not sure that I would have done it that way if I were to do it again. This style catio was designed to have three "walls" and to go up against a house. I was concerned that, if I put the wire where the screen is, that we would see all the stapled edges of the wire when looking into the catio. Those wire edges are more difficult to hide with material than the cut edge of the screen material is.
