Cedar Catio Build (Part 2) - Catio Tunnel
We connected our catio to our house with a tunnel. The tunnel and catio were made entirely out of cedar. With exception to the angled portion of the tunnel that connects directly to the catio, this tunnel was built according to plans purchased from Catio Spaces (link below). Enjoy!

You should build these as a side job. A guy on Instagram builds these and gave me an estimate of $7k to build coming about 1/3 of the size as yours.

Cedar has such a great colour and I like the width and height of the walkways.

The screen material you used against the stairs will not protect your Cats from Mountain Lions, Bobcats or Coyotes.

The tunnels are everything! Question though... why the decision to put screening on one side of the main "catio", yet hardware cloth on the rest?
I'm not sure that I would have done it that way if I were to do it again. This style catio was designed to have three "walls" and to go up against a house. I was concerned that, if I put the wire where the screen is, that we would see all the stapled edges of the wire when looking into the catio. Those wire edges are more difficult to hide with material than the cut edge of the screen material is.

It's 2" by 3" vinyle-coated wire mesh. I believe I bought it from home depot.

Joshua, this is what is such an enjoyable video to watch because of the cats, being shown, your family, the great music and especially showing us the detail that you went into the building is that specifically the way you customized the tunnel. Thank you for sharing also with us that you got your plans with catio spaces. I’ve been tinkering with the idea of getting some plans from them. This really helps. But even with the plans nothing can be done without great workmanship and care. Thank you for showing us what genuine excellence is.

I believe I have a bit more footage of how I attached the shelves. I didn't include it here because it was difficult to get a good shot in those tight quarters. Can I answer any questions for you? I could post some of the footage if I can find it.

What size metal wire did y’all used?
It is 2" by 3" vinyl coated wire.. we got it at Lowe's.
@@joshuawood6644 thanks for the information! We moved to a new location and Had my 17 year old cat escaped from one I build. He never returned. :( have 2 more rescue who I need to make sure it will never happen again
@@sleeks9939 ohh man that's awful! 17 years is a long time. I'm sure you're missing him. I hope he finds his way back home. The wire is pricey, but it's worth it! It's strong and will not rust.

Pro tip: Birch plywood does not have exterior rated glue, therefore, it should not be outside. Go to your local home store and purchase plywood with an 'X' rating. Example: CDX rated plywood has the correct glue for use outside. Zip System brand products work well too.
Yes I was hoping the stain I used would keep it safe outside. However the plys are now separating a bit. Wish I had gone with something like CDX. Thanks for the tip!!

How many 2x4s did you need?
Sorry I just noticed this. I believe I used 9 2 x 4's at 8 feet long for just the catio itself. In addition, I bought another 5 or 6 2 x 4's at 8 feet to build the braces that hold up the tunnel.
