      Initially I didn’t want to watch, I don’t tend to watch preview vids because I want to experience what’s new. But I remember it took me a while to get into ck2, it was so overwhelming at first. So I’m enjoying watching these videos and getting ideas for how I want to play and seeing new layouts and options.

    Please make city sprawl. Cities look too pathetic and not so prominant compared to forts. In short - they are hard to see. Please add the sprawl.

      @Renan_PS The world was way more rural than what you imagine. Things like the Roman Empire's cities and the esplendour of the stable Chinese dynasties were the exception, not the rule

      Domain and Demesne mean different things though. Demesne is the set of holdings the lord controls whereas I would say Domain is all holdings in the lord's realm, some of which are held by the lord's vassals.

    Baronies are now part of the map, making holding slots locked
    Developpement replaces prosperity?
    Inverse autonomy level from EU4
    Counties have relation with their lord
    Buildings depend on terrain, like great works are in ck2
    Higher tier of building for duchy counties

      @muzzzeeeek What I meant by holding slots is like : one county has 6 (5 baronies and the county capital) holdings, and another has 2 (1 barony and the county capital) holding, basically no options to increase holding slots in the options like ck2 cuz it's linked to map

      @@Sinaeb since baronies dont have vassal contract theres not reason to hold them yourself since they will always give max tax and levy. i remember reading a dev diary saying they will act like a freezer for character you want to keep in your realm so they dont leave

      @@jahbama6202 why were they really op? i only used them when i conquered land too deep and needed faster conversion rates but once everything was settled, i don't remember them being any more useful than a regular duchy. and i have a vague memory of not being able to revoke their titles.

      @@silverdeathgamer2907 merchant republics made you a shit ton of money though. and from my experience, they would conquer a lot of land on their own and go beyond the merchant republic holdings-limit and make you even more money. they were completely broken imo

      @@WeedSmoker69 Oh it is definitely worth it especially one you get to kingdom viceroyalties and loyalty is never a problem again(just keep giving them to old Dukes who die while still being happy for being granted titles).

    Wondering now how Tribes are affected since there doesn't seem to be a tribal holding anymore. Also wondering if you can increase building slots via the development or not, ala EU4?

      It looks like at around 5:35-5:40 that the character owns a high chiefdom and their counter has a tribe holding alongside the 4 castle holdings. I assume when they said there were three holdings they meant three "civilised" holdings.

      @@UlfDerDritte Yeah, I just re-watched that part and you're right, they said 3 "core" types. Seems weird that they wouldn't really mention tribal holdings at all even if it's just as an aside but perhaps the whole tribal + reforming topic will be covered separately.

      There is no longer a tribal goverment type...Currently tribal nations just have less built up provinces and more loose vassle contracts

      Might just be his priorities and viewpoints though, and tall vs wide. If you're playing more tall you want to develop your core provinces, if you blob you want a wider area buff.

      I think the idea is that Increase Development has its uses but that you only have one Steward and they have other abilities that can be more immediately useful? If the next video is on handling money I'm sure that we'll see the Steward's other abilities there.

      probably because often times the short time gain from other abilities is better, while dev improvement is more long term so you don't immediately get some big bonus.

    City spread may be unrealistic but maybe having slightly changing icons. (Cities get a few more buildings with development, Forts get some houses around it, Temples get a village that grows a bit) Then as the development starts to affect neighboring counties maybe some small traders could walk along dirt roads that show up at higher development levels to show the growing population and commerce.

      Well, seems fair. In CK2, once you start snowballing there's not a whole lot to stop you and basically the only limit on you is the defensive pacts. And it's very easy to start snowballing in early starts central / eastern and northern Europe made up of fragmented tribes.

      @@cammurabi Early on perhaps but later they got bigger i mean look at Paris or London in the 100 yr war plus theres the glittering cities of Byzantium including the massive Constantinople but also Thessaloniki and Nicea among others not to mention the cities under Muslim rule that got large such as Cairo, Alexandria, Damascus, Basra, and of course Cordoba and Baghdad plus remember this game has both western Africa and India but also Tibet and they had some massive cities at the time

    The -foundations- of ck3 feels rejuvenating for a ck title. For next five years with dlcs the game will be another milestone in grand strategy gaming. I love it already. How about special kingdom buildings and empire buildings besides the duchy ones? In rank they could get more expensive and unique

    Q: Will there be de jure duchy/kingdom border shifts in the game? I think it's very important considering that now with the control mechanic, growing without caring about de jure borders is heavily regulated.

      Who knows maybe that's a lesser noble more in tune with the peasantry than the nobility, which would explain why the "representative" could read/write.

      Demesne is a more historical word, which is why they should've kept it.

      I don't get swapping it out though. They did the same thing for primogeniture. Demense is a better word to use in the context because it's primarily associated with lands attached to feudal estates.

    Been following this video series for the past week, I never played CK2 before (but got thousand-ish hour on EU4 and hundreds on HOI4) and I think this game is quite neat. To all the veteran players, should I buy CK3? Or instead should I just play CK2? Thanks

      CK3 will be the standard Crusader Kings game from now on just like Eu4 and Hoi4 for their respective franchises.
      You can get Ck2 as it is free to play to try it out before CK3 releases, you can get a first impression about the UI (you'll get a better feeling about how CK3's UI is, compared to CK2's) and the politics in the world.
      If you decide to try CK2 before Ck3 i'd recommend forming the kingdom of Norway as a viking ruler and go raid england :p, or a good peaceful start would be as the king of France in 1066 and try to keep the realm and develop it, in the future preparing it to fight the holy roman empire, england and brittany for modern france's borders.

      Ck3 will probably be easier to learn, but Ck2 is free and has some challenges you can complete to unlock cosmetics in Ck3.

      If you look close enough - it is going through those cities. I think they just modelled it that it is not wide enough in those cities to stop an army crossing it.

      One Proud Bavarian speaks to swiftly , Bavarian should understand that we are not all born in England, Sweden or countries who understand fluent accent of Bavarian tbh. Atleast I can understand what Havoc is trying to tell us in his tutorial videos, my honest opinions , don't mean to be rude or something.

      It's a replacement for the Recently Conquered/New Administration penalties (newly conquered territory has poor control but gradually builds up), but can also come back if the settlement gets wrecked, where as those modifiers only applied if the province changed hands.

      Renan_PS Ah that’s a shame. was hoping it changed, I much prefer EU4’s system where you can develop whatever preferred provinces/counties (for role playing purposes) you wanted instead of being limited to always need a specific one to get any bonuses or build certain buildings!

      @@roropiroro6425 Yes but they were the exception and not the rule. Byzantines won't even have unique mechanics at launch. Maybe they will make an expansion focused on that region and maybe then they will also add more naval options.

      @@MeldinX2 what I'm saying is that naval combat in the middle ages was as commom as in the renaissance, for a game that uses history accuracy it would be great to add naval warfare since it adds more juice to trade routes and having to defend them.

      @@roropiroro6425 I mean i'm not against having good naval systems in the game. As it stands they don't even have trade routes in the game at launch. I guess they could make an expansion about naval stuff in general. But i don't think they will. Even in CK2 we only used ships as transports.

    As much I like this game
    I hope the next Victoria 3 or hearts of iron or they create a new game that combines ck3,vic2 and hoi4 with an extended timeline and maybe go more in depth for the political process

      HoI4 is not the game to do that with. It's less about building up your empire throughout history, and more of trying to push to that last province for an encirclement. By that point in time, governments were very centralized and the politics revolved around countries, not people. Absolute monarchy had also been completely wiped out in WWI.

      Once you get empire is they didn't change the claim system just inviting strong king claimants making them your vassal and conquering their claims will still although you to blob not to mention if your ruler can use a CB like invasion or get crusade lands.

    In ck 2 we could poses baronnies in county that we didn't hold , how will it function in CK 3?

      Unless I’m mistaken, you can no longer have independent baronies in counties.
      Personally I hope this is the case, it was very annoying to have to wage an entire war over a barony

      Barony titles in ck3 are always vassals of the county they are in. However there is a new mechanic where holdings can be rented out, for example to holy orders. You give up the tax and levies, but you still technically own the barony and can kick them out if you want to. I believe this was confirmed in one of the earlier dev diaries.

      @@UnprofessionalGamerr Thank for the information but unfortunately I don't agree about the fact that it make it better on the contrary it was more historic in ck 2 , a historic example is Berwick-upon-Tweed changed several times possession between England and Scotland and his has a size of a baronies and there is a lot more examples like between the French Italien border , where there were wars for just little towns and that is why still today they are Italians town where the majority speak a French dialect

It was fun for the first couple of games but sooner or later it just boils down to clicking some buttons for the same events again and again. I would rather have them make a new society expansion where they expand the concept greatly.
