NATO will continue to be publicly polite to Canada. Behind the scenes I hope tougher & more blunt conversations take place. I’m a retired service member 1967-96. At my time of joining we were a Nation of less than ? 20 million. In 2024 we are a Nation of 40 million. Both traditional governing parties have failed our military for generations. Announcements are being made about ships & planes. It will take 10+ years to get them in the air & on the water. If Canada doesn’t do as per usual… delay / cut back & delay again. Regardless of who is in power.

Members of parliament have had five pay raises since 2020 if all members of parliament got a pay cut to a maximum 50,000 a year and started paying their own traveling expenses and living expenses that would probably help towards paying the NATO commitments. I would also suggest not giving money to other nations or groups to have parades...

5-6% might be excessive but 2.5-3% for 10-15 years is needed. More than that, we need more voices promoting the military and its value so we can get recruitment going. I bet we probably need close to 100k reg troops and almost as many in the army reserves to be able to contribute in another major conflict and those numbers can't be bought with money alone.
