- surprise, bet you thought you'd seen the last of me.
but nope, here I am, almost an exact two years to the day after releasing my Upgrade animatic (I'm one day early ... but I'm done, so I'm releasing this now lol). it's been one hell of a journey.
in case you couldn't have guessed, the Broadway release of Be More Chill did indeed reignite my love and passion for the musical; the new cast album just brought such a wonderful breath of fresh air to an already original and thoroughly charming musical. I even had the good fortune to be able to see it on Broadway myself (thanks, Ally), which is a sentence I would have never even dreamed of a full two years ago.
but here we are.
Loser, Geek, Whatever really gave the musical something it was missing; Jeremy really needed his own Michael in the Bathroom moment, and they sure as hell gave it to him. after working on this project for two months, I hope I did it justice.
honestly, most of the song speaks for itself, so i'll stop gushing soon enough. I will say that I threw in more references and callbacks to my other animatics more times than I can count (if you can catch them all then you're cool) and, though you may have noticed this already, I spliced a few parts of the parts of the new cast album LGW with parts of the original beta LGW, mostly for emotion's sake. I was debating for a long while which version I should do, and eventually, I decided to just do both. sort of.
alright, I'm done gushing. I want to thank everyone who was there for me, start to finish, for this brief, albeit satisfying return to Be More Chill. I have two other completely new projects in the works that I'll hopefully get out by the end of the summer, but for now ... enjoy.

Bro I felt you fr, when I first heard the new album I HATED the squip I was like “bro he sounds like a surfer dude named chad” but hear me out! I went and saw it live and it’s so good! All of them are so amazing EVEN the squip! He was really good so just know that😂
Payton Allison exactly how I feel. It’s overall amazing, but the Squip sounds a bit to much like a stereotype surfer dude. They were trying to make him sound like Keanu Reeves, and it’s a great impression, but there’s not enough emotion in his voice.

This song does a much better job at portraying his struggle, and shows the audience that he actually recognizes he's doing something wrong here by abandoning Michael. It adds to the enjoyment of the musical 100^
the fact that you put the part that shows jeremy’s binder at “some normal handsome guy,” was really powerful, i was singing along the entire the entire time but when i saw that i went silent.

I like your interpretation of this song! The little details really add to the big picture. Also, I definitely agree with you on the ‘jeremy deserved a michael in the bathroom moment’ comment. While upgrade was good, this song kinda brings more depth to Jeremy as a character

I think this song is really important to the play. It gives jer quite a bit more character, it makes him seem like less of an ass. He was being an ass, but he was being an ass for a reason. And it’s a pretty relatable reason. It makes you connect and feel for him more. This is a great animatic
No. It's not a good reason. Just because people were being asses to you doesn't mean you can do the same, especially to a friend that you have known for 12 years. It's not ok. If someone did what Jeremy did to Michael to you, how would you feel? Would you forgive them? ( lol sorry if I came of as rude) also, Michael was one of the only people that *weren't* mean to Jeremy. Also, also during the song Michael in the bathroom Michael says , and I quote " I wish I ofd myself instead, wish I was never born!" Because Jeremy, his best friend of 12 f**ing years insulted him! In this song he says , after "questioning" his decision, and I quote (again) " but that's the shit I normally would think, get over it, get priorities in check. " he genuinely would rather end his friendship with Michael, than still being friends with him, because people will think he is lame, and he won't date Cristeeeeen~ or some shit. ,○>○

Idk, it comes off to me that he didn’t want to be cool to be popular, he wanted to be cool to feel like he was enough, that he was important. I get that. I’ve never wanted to be particularly popular, but I have wanted to feel like I mattered.
The song doesn’t give Jeremy an excuse for being an ass, but it *does* give him a reason, and i think that is pretty important to the story.
You’ve improved so much since the last BMC animatic you made it’s insane!! I love how you actually turned this song into more of a story instead of just Jeremy singing to the audience! This was incredible! Great work!

Also I can definitely relate to Jeremy in this amazing song. I’ve always been the weirdo and geek/nerd in my small friend group (or as the song puts it “the loser, geek, or whatever”:) but sometimes I want to be more than that. Don’t get me wrong, I like having time to be me and chill but there’s a part of me that wants to be more open and out there. I’ve struggled with my self esteem and confidence for the longest time and sometimes I want to move forward. I will eventually; I’m getting better. I’ve survived high school and I know there are cool guys like me in college. Again, great visuals and this and Dear Evan Hansen are the most relatable musicals in recent years:) Thanks for making this!

Yeah, for me especially characters like Jared and Michael who hide themselves behind an ideal version of themselves who’re happy and confident. The characters are really well written and when animators show them with such deep storylines and portrayal
You do realize that instead of "weirdo and geek/nerd" you could have quoted the song. That was a not very weirdo thing to do.
Also in my experience being weird is a really good thing? You just gotta be confident in your weirdness, the only reason weirdos/geeks/whatever get better in college is because they become more confident when they are able to wiggle their way among the best. It feels like your whole life up until that point was on the right track.
Everyone's a little bit weird or they're lying or incredibly boring people. There are only 3 options, and only the played down one is good... ... ... but what do I know? I'm an individual that has been living a very sheltered life, I might get weird confused with me being my happy-go-lucky self. My environment might have also been superior and so I just ended up being more accepted by my friends and acquaintances. Who really knows?

I start college in less than a month so I think I will enjoy my time there for the most part but I still do have some worries about the unknown, but doesn’t everyone else have that issue too? I just need to remember that there’s lots of starting college freshmen in my kind of situation and that I can/will get through this big transition in my life. I’m now realizing that I should and mostly am proud of my weird quirks. But I also am autistic and an introvert which makes transitions and new changes with social interactions that much harder. So I need to chill out (pun intended) and take things a day at a time. Thanks for all of the inspirations:)

Absolutely wonderful animation in this video. Not only does it represent how Jeremy is feeling that led him up to this point, but how it also strives towards why Jeremy was hesitant, but ended up abandoning Michael in the end.

This is so amazing! I’ve watched your animatic for “the play” about 50 times and I’ve had your old art ingrained in my brain for forever, but this improvement is really so beautiful! Remember when Jeremy said he didn't feel like he was the main character? One of the reasons is that whenever he's playing video games with Michael, Michael is player 1. Jeremy is player 2, making him feel less important maybe? I don't know, just wanted to point that out.
I saw this live three weeks ago when me and my best friend saw it! I was practically in tears by this performance because of Wills voice and him turning his back on Michael, it was amazingly heart stopping! Would totally see it again!

Can I just- gush about this animatic “for forever” since the new album got out I haven’t liked it- mostly because I was so used to the original but slowly I’m starting to learn to love both and this helped! (I really like the Pants Song, both original and new, and Sync Up in the new album)

I always felt this song done a great job at showing Jeremy's insecurities about himself and what he wants to be. This song sounds so positive despite it clearly being a song were Jeremy makes the worse choice by breaking it off with Micheal. Your animatic and facial features really catches it! Great job!

This video is truly amazing. The way you create the video expression the tone, Jeremy insecurity, Loneliness, his reasons and circumstances. It really gives us more details on his character and how relatable he is. I can understand Jeremy perspective. I remember feeling alone, an outcast and hating everything especially myself. That feeling hurts. Now thinking isn’t that call peer pressure. Usually the time you enter middle school to highschool. Maybe at college/ university as well. I can see where Jeremy coming from. He in pain. I truly feel sorry for him. I feel like he feeling all alone and no one would understand what he going through. I understand what he did to Michael was wrong. Also now thinking about Michael . He probably had insecurities but was able to go past it because he had Jermey . His childhood friend. So he didn’t care what people say because he had Jeremy. The only person who matter to him. So thinking Jeremy was Michael support system. Anyway This video really show the emotion here. Truly beautiful and sad at the same time. Definitely capture the emotion. Amazing job.

How you portrayed the song and how the artist/actor sung the song with so much emotion and depth that it makes a lot of people cry, all it took was how you drew the animation and it made so many people love this.
Depsite the fact that I knew the BMC team added a new song to the soundtrack, I've never gotten the chance to listen to it. I don't know what I was was expecting, but,, holy shit. The song was great, along with the animatic!
