Has all the strengths of the band's previous album, while arguably getting to the heart of some more serious issues.

Is my music fire?
@@MusicMilesYTno, quit making music
@@MusicMilesYTeverytime someone makes a comment like this, I always try to give it a chance. This is horrible, you should stop spamming and quit music. I never want to hear this bs again.
butthole music
*2021
one of my favorite bits of humor in this album is in "the fringe" when they literally spell the word fringe wrong. 10/10
gus fring? 👀
Omg so quirky

Not only is cheekface easily in the top 5 bands I've discovered in my 30s, they're also some of the most down to earth and legit music people I've interacted with on the Internet. They take time and care when responding and have oddly really provided comfort to me with both their music and Internet conversations with me - all while avoiding establishing a dangerous parasocial relationship. I love to support this band and I love to see them succeed
what are some of the other 5?
@@alec3323 pup, 100 gecs, glass beach definitely
They are just as charming irl! Def see them live if you can - one of the most fun shows I've ever attended. They goof around & play games w the audience & often work their own merch table 💚 I love Cheekface goddamn
Also, try out the bands GUPPY & illuminati hotties! Seems a little up your alley
You love to see the indie artists thriving
I just dropped the AOTY!!!🔥🔥🔥
@@MusicMilesYT me too it's called hood hottest princess
I absolutely hate it. I only ever want to hear the corporate ukulele music.
@@MusicMilesYTsorry bro but your album is not even 0.01% close from album of the year, the vocals and production didnt even mix well
@@GrahamBarthNow I'm just picturing Bebe Rexha covering Somewhere Over the Rainbow and I need to listen to Cheekface again to recuperate.
The opening to Popular 2 is probably my favorite opening to any song ever.
"Subject verb, I want to be disturbed
I just perturbed the pigeons now the pigeons are perturbed"
And just like that “this is private property” is on repeat for the next 15 minutes
Literally laughed out loud when I heard that lyric
Starting your song with "subject verb" is such a power move
You know you’re committed when you don’t open the description and wait til the end for the reveal. This is a rare review where I agree with everything you said. I’m glad you’re vibin with cheekface. Excited to see what they do next
I interviewed the band for my podcast Films for the Void and they were the loveliest people - so pumped to see their growth over the next couple years!
Aw Life in a Bag is definitely my favorite track
Yeah, Life In A Bag is definitely the highlight of the record. Saying it's a lull is wild to me. At least he acknowledged that the lyrics are great.
I fucking love Cheekface so much. Discovered them a couple years ago through Spotify recommending me "We Need a Bigger Dumpster". I immediately loved it. The frontman's talk-singing style reminded me a lot of Cake and Stephen Malkmus and his lyrics are fucking hilarious. Their songs always make me audibly laugh.
I was super happy to discover that Anthony Fantano actually loves them. I found this album to be immensely entertaining and just hilarious. I'm glad it got an 8 and think it's awesome that Anthony is introducing them to a wider audience. They're so fucking good
need the ‘wall of eyes’ review now!
This is the whitest music I’ve ever heard
white people making quirked up white people music again
😮
And they say white people have no culture
"Trophy Hunting at the Zoo" is a pretty amazing title
The only thing I dislike about this album is that most of the highlights were already out in the form of singles and it felt like there were only 2-3 songs added on top of that. Nonetheless, it‘s better to do it this way than to throw in some half-assed songs. There are no bad songs on this project, I love this band
Life In a Bag not in favorites though?????????????
Life in a Bag not being in Fav tracks is WILD! Easily the best song on the album (and of the year so far) imo!
I still think that TMTA struck more of a chord with me, but I can't deny that this is a very catchy record and proves that this new generation of rock bands know how to have fun in the genre! Well deserved!
their other ones are even better imo, they have started to drown in their influences, i can't hear their voice.
Life in a bag is so ridiculous that I can’t help but love it. Genuinely one of my favorite tracks of the year so far
If a supergroup formed between Cake, Television, and the Dead Milkmen. I very recently started listening to these guys. I literally was a huge fan within the first 2 songs of their first album
First heard "We Need a Bigger Dumpster" on the KEXP morning show and immediately fell in love with it, and while I did enjoy listening to that album it didn't grab onto me like I had expected. Have not listened to It's Sorted yet but going by Fantano's review I think this might be the one to do it.
Saw these legends live last year and they put on an infectiously fun gig, then spent the time to genuinely and lovingly talk to everyone who stayed around after. Has stuck with me.
Omg thank you for recommendinrg this album, i just listened and i love it!! The lyrics are just what i needed rn
I loved the interview you did the other day you did with them so cool and very nice people
So thats how MC Ride knew my first three numbers. He found my social security on the dark web!
:*
I started playing Cheekface on my college radio station in 2019. It’s so cool to see them really gaining steam. Love them.
WALL OF EYES, do it Melon!
i’ve been a real cheek freak for ages now let’s goooo
Cheekface It’s Sorted - 8/10
Ghostface It’s Unsorted - 10/10?
(submitted before watching) I fucking LOVE this album. Had to run errands this morning and I was playing It's Sorted at high volume the whole time. I admittedly have a very strong pro-Cheekface bias, but I sincerely believe this is their absolute best record yet. I just wish it was longer than 29 minutes and change...guess I'll just have to wait for a b-sides EP!
If you disagree, that's okay. This is America, and everyone is allowed to be wrong sometimes. But let's see... (hits play)
2024 year of the Cheekfreak
2nd yellow of 2024 has to be
Wall of eyes.
You were right 👍
@@CasperLikesMusic-kw3jj thanks
Fantastic review. There is a really effectively creepy and underlying dystopian feeling that works in a scary way when you listen deeper.
Oh yes melon you always get it sorted inside me
Love how plastic is so dark lyrically, but just so damn catchy musically
Anthony, did you already get a chance to listen to Dj Ramon Sucesso’s new LP Sexta dos Crias? Brazilian carioca funk
First yellow means new listen
Are you going to do the new Caligula's horse album?
I was hoping for the yellow on this one, super great album best of January.
i dont want to be pedantic or anything but actually, the vocals in the fringe "i want to be on the fringe" are a direct reference to the pistols song "anarchy in the uk" not "god save the queen"
Cheekface isn't anything if not consistent. Unlike Cake they don't take 4-10 years to deliver a record, and they don't take themselves too seriously, instead leaning into the fun side of self-deprecation while churning out cynical-yet-hopeful jams that we didn't know we needed during our doomscrolling quarantine. I also appreciate that they seem to enjoy each other's company as well as that of the fans. The new album is just as good as any before it because they're, well, Consistent - like a blue canary in an outlet by a light switch.
how is life in a bag not in fav tracks
This is probably the 1st album by them I realllly enjoyed. Gotta go back to see if the others resonate now though
They won’t
I think this is by far their most consistent but their other records have really high points still
They get better as they go along, but I have no doubt you’ll find something good in them.
I've been listening to this album to death. I especially love Popular 2 and its bass line.
Cheekfreaks where ya at
Lets get the Wall of Eyes review please hurry up bud
Great review Anthony(?)! I love indie rock. You should review Jobe Mark II. You want to so bad.
Please review the new Courting album New Last Name , I am quite enjoying it and it'd be cool to hear your thoughts
Dont stop believing is like a modern day Bob Dylan-esque anthem about life and i'm honestly a little moved by it
100% agree, great track!
NEW WORK FROM THOM YORKE ON THE SMILE
The non-singles in this album have grown on me after a few listens and are now, to me, equal to the singles
please do skinty fia, been waiting on your opinions on the revival of fontaines dc's new vision and sound
Love these dudes and glad to see one of my favorite music dudes get into them! Hell yeah
saw them in Toronto last night, best bunch of goobers I've ever seen on stage
Goobers, all of them
I got a subtle Arcade Fire from Trophy Hunting At The Zoo, myself
where’s the all is yellow review
please review Bill Ryder-Jones Anthony
Fantano, the referenced Sex Pistols song is "Anarchy in the UK" not "God Save the Queen"
please review the smiles new album wall of eyes
Great album. Reminds me of the schtick and humor of Tullycraft. But Cheekface bring a lot of whimsy to the songwriting in addition to the lyrics. Dig it.
WE HAVE OUR FIRST 8/10🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
I just dropped the AOTY!!!🔥🔥🔥
Cheekface SERVING with this album if you ask me
Future islands & the smile reviews? Whennnnnn 😢❤
Hey anthony, how can I get you to review my music
Man you have to go see one of their concerts live and you'll see how much they can be like Cake
such a fun record. loved it, love this band
cheekface reminds me a lot of homestar runner, i wonder if it's an influence for them
I love this band, only recently discovered hem thanks to the Almighty Melon and I can confidently say I'm hooked
You should review Hozier's "Unreal Unearth". A very interesting album in my opinion :)
I can't keep defending you, Melon.
Hop off Peakface
DROP THE SMILE REVIEW NOW
Definitely need to listen to this one again at some point, was pretty disappointed on my first listen.
cheekfreaks stand up
I thought the title read "Cheeckface: It Snorted" 😂☠️
Could been 10/10 if it was named that tbh
this really reminds of being stuck at a party with millennials who were losing their minds to some mid song by the strokes
First yellow flannel of the year lets go
I miss Anothny saying "hello my needledrops."
they sound good. ill check them out
Yeah they're pretty good.
First yellow of 2024, let’s go.
Millenial core ahh music. I would probably like it if i was 34 wearing a shirt w a llama on it or sum shit
you know an album is going to be good when the comments are filled with a bunch of jokes and references you dont understand
Such a fun band. Just love them.
I always mix up Cheekface with Kiwi Jr. for some reason
Im pretty sure "the Fringe" is using the melody from "Anarchy in The UK"
they dont really sound alike at all what
@@morbidlyabeast5462 The "I wanna be on the fringe" part has a similar melody to the "I wanna be anarchy" part.
Just listened, it’s great!
Lyrical Lemonade - All is Yellow next please
Love Cheekface!! If you haven't gotten the chance to listen to Bad Moves, I would recommend it. They have similar political sensibilities with a more pop-ish sound
Ngl, listened to it once and didn't think it was as good as their previous album. Maybe it's a grower, much like yours truly.
WE DID IT!!! VIVA LA CHEEKFACE!!!
anthony review “champion” by BONES
Fantano you should review angry black men the legend of ABM some industrial shit inspired by clipping Danny brown etc. good record imo
Do the new smile album
Hell yes, great album!!! Can’t stop playing it lately
I just dropped the AOTY!!!🔥🔥🔥
Face it, you have a lot of cheek reviewing this.
The background feels different and it makes me uncomfortable
I personally wasn’t big on this album. Idk I think it was just ok it had some enjoyment to n its lyrics and themes where well displayed but the sound of the songs and the vibe is very off putting to what I think it’s trying to do. Idk I might have to give it another listen.
What do you mean when you say that off putting to what you think their trying to do?
you rated this higher than plastic death, either way congrats to It's Sorted for the amazing album
I really liked grad school 😓
Great album review.
Did Melon just give a group doing the same thing a pass? That next National album gonna hit different huh
