  • While I did enjoy The Last Jedi overall I wanted to organize all the problems the film had into one list to help explain why this is one of the most divisive Star Wars Films yet.
    Its not about its new direction, we are on board for that, just because this film makes some "Bold New Choices" doesnt excuse it from how they treated older legendary characters, dropped certain plot points, wasted time with a terrible subplot and finally created a few plot holes along the way!
    Full List of Reasons Featured in Video:
    1. The Death of Luke
    2. Luke’s Legacy & Behavior
    3. The Death of Snoke
    4. Finn & Rose’s Subplot
    5. Rey’s Parents are Nobody
    6. Death & Return of Leia
    7. Death of Phasma
    8. Humor & Tone Issues
    9. Dropped Force Awakens Subplots
    10. Plot Holes
    11. First Order Fleet Chases instead of Destroys
    12. Vice Admiral Holdo Sucks
    13. A Single X-Wing can Destroy a Dreadnought
    14. Why didnt Kylo notice Luke Projection
    15. Knights of Ren Dropped
    16. Kylo Ren & Vader Relationship Dropped
    17. Rey Perfect Saber Techniques with No Training
    18. Snoke doesnt know his ship can track the enemy?
    19. Yoda looks weird! (and can control lighting?)
    20. Rey happens to be at correct spot to save everyone and lifts all rocks with no training.
    21. Why was Finn hurt if it has no ramifications?
    22. Rose Falling in Love with Finn was Stupid!

      The ridiculousness of the situation isnt Poe trying to piss off the enemy Admiral its that the fucking Admiral is make to look like a fucking joke who falls into a petty prank call. Absolute udder ridiculous bullshit. Makes the First Order look like a joke rather than a real threat. If anyone thinks the Nazis in WW2 were incompetent retards like this Admiral is portrayed to be then we would of lost the war because the real deal was fucking intelligent, organized, mature, and prepared which is why they were a real fucking threat to taking over the world. It is just absurd they though this would be funny. Again you miss the point completely it isnt Poe that is the problem but the incompetency of the First Order leaders to fall for that shit. Even the Empire leaders and Admirals would shrug off Poe's foolish attempt to antagonize them.

    Rian Jonson gets a hard-on from subverting expectations. It makes him feel like he's smarter than the entire world. But it's about as clever as a nine-year-old jumping out and going "Boo! Ha ha! Surprised you!"

      Except he does have good ideas, Rey's twist is a twist pn the already common: I Am Your Father reveal, it's what we expect, so he once again challenges that expectation in an interesting way, because I don'g know about you, but having a hero who literally comes from nothing against this guy who came from heroes and became a hige villain is pretty cool, also he gave Luke a character arc instead of just amking him Yoda 2.0

    • @KneelB4Bacon

      I think Rian is just a nihilist, who wants to destroy what other people have made. I think the end of "The Last Jedi" proves this. At the end of the movie, the rebellion has been reduced to about 20 guys and the Millennium Falcon. Rian even makes the point of saying that the Rebels contacted the Republic for help and NO ONE was responding. Where can another writer possibly take things from there? If I were deliberately TRYING to f*ck up the franchise, "The Last Jedi" is exactly the kind of movie I would make.

      Rey on the other hand was handed everything to her. Force abilities with no training. A year of training at most after TLJ. They had to cover their tracks and explain the force dyad, Ren transferring some of his powers to her, and her being a Palpatine

    Mark Hamill said it best, "They had time for me to milk an alien but not enough time for Luke to show any emotion." Another big issue, suddenly all that's needed to wipe out a fleet is one ship jumping to light speed? All this time, why has anyone wasted their time fighting with laser blasters or turbo lasers? Another problem, the Empire, First Order, has seemingly unlimited resources. Two Death Stars, Star Killer base, 4 full fleets, and yet they only seem to grow in size? Where does this all come from if Star Killer Base was wiped out? The last fleet that was wiped out had no effect because the next scene they were all down on the planet with no issue. I'll stop there but I could keep going.

      The First Order is inconsistent. It's supposed to be a small remnant of the Empire's military yet with the destruction of Starkiller Base you think they should be broken as a fighting force beyond repair, with barely any ships left, since it seemd Starkiller Base was their main base of operations, yet somehow they still have a big enough fleet led by a massive flagship and thousands of stormtroopers to chase and destroy the remainder of the Resistance fleet which is even smaller and weaker than the remnant of the once mighty Imperial fleet?

Then he could have force-pushed all of the rounds back at the ATATs, destroying them all and leaving the battlefield completely barren aside from him and Kylo.

    • @KalibreSteelblast
      @KalibreSteelblast Před 4 lety +34

      Fuel _could_ be an issue, but it shouldn't be. A real-life nuclear-powered battleship can operate up to 20 years before needing to be refueled; in-universe, a capital ship can have up to 5 years worth of consumables. Are we _really_ supposed to believe that a single jump through lightspeed would deplete a warship's fuel reserves?
      Because the alternative would be the Resistance saying "oops, looks like we forgot to gas up before we left!" Which is equally moronic.

    • @ArthurRex131
      @ArthurRex131 Před 4 lety +11

      Fuel has been mentioned in Star Wars before TLJ. The one that immediately comes to mind is Qui-Gon Jinn on Tatooine in Episode I when he says "We'll need to land somewhere to refuel and repair the ship." Han also mentions fuel in one of the movies but I don't remember which one. They're just throwaway lines, though, and don't factor into the plot much at all.

At the end of the movie, the Rebellion has been reduced to about 20 guys and the Millennium Falcon. He even goes out of his way to point out that the Rebels contacted the Republic for help and NO ONE was responding. Where can another writer possibly take things from there? If I was deliberately TRYING to f*ck up the franchise, "The Last Jedi" is exactly the kind of movie I'd make. Was he really that afraid of another Vader or was it Snoke that ignited that fear? He beat Vader through pacifism and appealing to his Light side. This is yet another legacy character who was ruined to make way for new characters that are not nearly as memorable.

    Really surprised you guys didn't go more into the Holdo maneuver. Honestly I think it's one of the largest sins in the movie...perhaps even larger than the complete and total assassination of Luke's character just because of the far-reaching ramifications.
    From what we see, a hyper-space ramming maneuver is apparently incredibly effective against spacecraft...are we supposed to believe that this is the first time that someone has stumbled across this in the thousands of years that hyper-space has existed? Military ramifications are often some of the first options explored with new technology...this changes the face of literally the ENTIRE Star Wars universe. There is literally NO WAY that such an effective tactic would NOT be exploited for war. This undermines every capital ship encounter in the lore, because we SHOULD be looking at a civilization which wages war with hyper-space missiles...and they wouldn't require the power of an entire star, or the size and mass of an entire planet to launch.
    Literally just build a massive slug of some sort of heavy metal, strap some engines, fuel tanks, a hyper-drive, and a guidance system to it, and bam...instant ship-killer...and possibly a planet-killer too if the slug is massive enough... (think hyper-speed meteor). The Death Stars? The battle of Coruscant? The blockade of Naboo? ALL SOLVED by hyper-space missiles. Not to mention there'd be no need to even build a Death Star when you can just slam a massive chunk of metal into a planet's crust at hyper-speed. This basically turns the matter of planetary destruction into child's play...anyone who can build a hyper-drive could do it.
    As a standalone movie, TLJ is okay...fun, funny...probably enjoyed by people who don't know what Star Wars is...the same way the movie Eragon was enjoyed by people who hadn't read the books. But, like the director of Eragon, it seems Rian Johnson read the Star Wars cliff-notes and couldn't be bothered with actually researching and respecting his source material. And those of us who DO know Star Wars (and there are a lot of us), know TLJ for the stinking dumpster-fire it has left within our beloved universe.

    Did you ever hear the tragedy of Supreme Leader Snoke the Powerful? I thought not. It's not a story Disney would tell you. It's a fan legend. Snoke was the Supreme Leader of the First Order, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence and connect the minds of people across galaxies... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even force pull people through holograms. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his apprentice, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him while he was distracted while interrogating a Jedi. It's ironic... he could use the force to influence others from other galaxies, but not sense a lightsaber being manipulated right next to him.
    Is it possible to learn this origin story?
    Not from the Movies.

I thought it would be cool to have Kilo fight them both. But then again I don't know how they would given that the lightsaber moves he uses are heavy and sluggish and lack speed in exchange for intimidation. I guess I'm spoiled, and I can't believe I'm admitting this, I think I'm spoiled by that Revenge of the Sith fight where everything was rather fast and coordinated that Kilo's moves just seem slow and exhausted.

    They should’ve made the first trilogy focus on the fall of Ben Solo to the dark side.
    He should’ve started as a young man, living during a period of peace in the Republic with the Empire gone for a few decades, then been struck with some severe family tragedy (that would involve Luke), and then fall into darkness, filled with hate, despair, and a craving for power fueled by revenge which would lead to the build up to another empire/conflict. Or perhaps not even a war? Make it a more intimate and personal story. It would be a good foundation as he’d be surrounded by family dynamics that could hold huge potential for great twists and reveals.
    Perhaps have the trilogy eventually culminating with Luke sacrificing himself at the end of the third movie out of love to save his nephew to be able to bring him to the light in his final act. That’s the ending Luke deserves.

    • @fayfay961

      I like this! But how about Luke sacrifices himself earlier. When confronted with this everyone thinks this will finally show Kylo the dark side is wrong, but instead it convinces him that the light side is weak and he commits fully to the dark side. It would be a better set up for him as a villain. he barely feels like a villain in these movies I mean he killed his dad but he's not scary at all.

      Amen to this! It truly was an Almost film.
      And they seemed shocked fans were mad. Like “wha did u expect destroying and entire canon a film franchise and fantasy world is built around?!” It would be like filming a HP movie that had no wizards or muggles and calling it canon. That never works when used cheaply for shock value.
      What will they do now with fisher?! They had a chance to kill her character off and let it be an honorable thang... and missed it. They had a chance to make luke’s legacy count and not completely disrespect his entire contribution to the right side of the Force and good, and missed it. They coulda started some new love interests and missed it. They coulda given Snoke an actual storyline after building it up, but missed it. It all felt so cheesy and cheaply made.
      HP worked for Disney cuz they used JK as consultant and she approved of everything. But they basically raped GL for his franchise then didn’t allow him any consultant role to ensure the canon...

    • @scenethelite
      @scenethelite Před 6 lety +3

      Was upheld... but they missed that too. Spent decades trying to acquire Lucasfilm for what?... they wanted that storyline and canon so badly for ages, once they got it, they decided not use any of it and make their own thang, so why did they bother buying the franchise just to destroy it? Makes no sense unless they were sure they could do it justice. The money is pointless if fans won’t see future films cuz of what they destroyed. They admitted the canon is GONE! We should take that to heart and say “ok, then we’ll wait till GL writes a new version of his SW and does it right.” He seemed sooooo sad about selling. He looked like he’d been bullied into it for so light he lost his fight. I had so loved Disney and hoped they would handle this right. They didn’t handle the deal right or the script and canon. No wonder fans are mad. They knew fans would be upset that Disney even acquired the franchise... so they knew they needed to bring it. They did with the first 2..

    • @scenethelite
      @scenethelite Před 6 lety +3

      +Princess Lissy did they think a bait & switch wouldn’t be noticed by fans? I don’t get that. Film lovers aren’t dumb Consumers. They analyze and catch things others don’t. Sigh. 😔 I love Disney when they do what they do best: animated and princess movies and some family friendly series. But this mix everyone knew would be a bad idea. I had hoped they’d prove that notion wrong. They know how loyal SW fans are to Lucasfilm. They knew it was a delicate thing and that fans were praying they could make it work. All we wanted was a good movie and trilogy and to prove the Lucas deal wasn’t disrespectful to Lucasfilm. How could they mess all that up in ONE film. Lol. Yikes.

    • @RookieN08
      @RookieN08 Před 6 lety +2

      The movie didn't reveal Snoke's backstory because it perfectly aligned with the theme. This movie is about the inevitability of failure. The absence of Snoke's backstory is basically saying no matter how powerful you are, you're still a nobody in the end. If you overestimated yourself, you're going to fall just like everyone else. TLJ has many flaws but Snoke isn't one of them.

    • @Horvath_Gabor
      @Horvath_Gabor Před 6 lety +2

      @RookieN08 But that's silly. Snoke is an insanely important character with gaping questions around him. Where did he come from? He is a Sith Lord, obviously, and he is adhering to the Rule of Two, but then who was his master. The last two Sith Lords were Palpatine and Vader, and neither of them had any canonical apprentices. So again, where did this man, who single-handedly destroyed the Republic and created an Empire with huge fleets and superweapons, something that took freakin Palpatine decades of careful masterminding, in just a few short years, come from? What is he about? These are not trivial questions, these are the crucially important building blocks in this kind of story that get you an "F" in writing class if you miss them.
      So no, Snoke is not a "nobody". If he is, then the Emperor was a nobody as well, and while it's true he was in the same situation in the original trilogy, Palpatine didn't have to fit into a giant, mapped out canon. The least we can ask for is at least *some* info on the alleged big bad.
