As a former QA (game tester) for a AAA gaming company, I can tell you that we do tell the devs what’s going on, the director/ execs are the main issue, their laziness/ lack of care gets old. You can tell them the same bugs, and see the same things on the next patch that they bring in to test.
Because all they care about is stock and impressing the investors. It sickens me that quality is very absent. Same with glitchy Elders Scroll or Fallout. Unfinished game that has so many problems.
I was about to come comment the same thing, worked on some AAA FPS games, and I had the exact same thought at 2:45
The only thing that will make things change is if people stop buying EA’s garbage. Until that happens it will stay the same so long as they have paying happy customers

So true, that thought has been on my mind for years now.
Yep, having a base who loves the NFL and willing to buy the product (even if they think it could be better) year after year, combined with a core who will spend hundreds and up to thousands a year on MUT, means that EA will give bare minimum effort in order to maximize profits. I got into NFL around 2015, bought Madden 2016 and haven't bought one since (I have played a little on gamepass over the years). It really fucking sucks because, NFL could have an amazing game with this much money to work with and we get this sad excuse for american football "simulation".

I don't understand. How can they fail at making a simple game about a single sport so catastrophically? This could be a minigame in GTA or Yakuza, and it'd be more polished. As a single minigame. Instead, they focused all their efforts on it and made pure shite.

It's interesting how the Game released with menus that took 3-5 seconds to respond. And then magically. a week later, after most people had used up their 10 hour demo, they patched it and it runs better than any Madden did before. (in terms of how fast you can move through the menus/ out of game). Still prefer NFL2K5 -
I remember in either NHL '97 or '98 as a kid, the anouncers would attempt to pronounce your created characters name. Me and my friend would love laughing at the attempts. Sports games are literally leagues worse than the late 90's.
Hearing the announcer say "that gave me chills" made me unreasonably angry. I quit Madden years ago and that is still etched in my brain because I've heard it so many times. Somebody needs to put this game out of our misery.

The hardest part of these reviews is I genuinely think Joe needs to add text for which version of the game he is currently showing because I'm constantly confused whether the footage currently being shown is from the current game getting reviewed or last year's version.

The fact that Madden 08(Ps2) is 15 years old and is still by far the best game in the series just goes to show how little effort EA puts in.

I'm Aussie and wouldn't have the first clue about NFL but I look forward to the games annual release because Angry is so bloody entertaining.
The best part about Joe's Madden reviews is how he always finds new and dynamic ways to insult and degrade EA for all their bullshit.
And every time he makes one, i feel like watching all or some of the other ones over again. It's like recapping all the previous episodes of your favorite show just to be fully caught up for the newest one

Such a breath of fresh air as a PC FIFA player. I went through this entire crisis with people hyping 23/FC24, the amount of disdain ea has for its own players is nuts. The crossplay thing ruined the game’s release cycle for us. We don’t even get together to play anymore. Bummer. Someone else desperately wants and deserves these licenses

Im not quite in the same boat, I played a demo Madden back in like 04, but have only bought like 4, maybe 5 Maddens since then. You aren't missing much. Sure fun can be had, but it gets old. I do not understand how people can buy it over and over again.

I got my dad Madden 06 when it came out with my Christmas money. He played it for years. The franchise mode and superstar mode were good. I tried out Madden 2018 at a friend's house and I felt like EA owed me money.
In all seriousness, I think EA would lose a class action lawsuit for false advertising.
MMG took a lot of shots in this review…and he absolutely deserves it. Dude makes videos clearly geared towards kids, spending thousands on packs and making it look awesome to kids with their parents card info and destroying the game for casual gamers

I don't feel like AJ gets enough credit for his ability to turn the most lengthy rants into some of the most coherent review scores ever. Whenever he builds up to his rating of a game, I always mentally guess what he's going to say based on everything that came before, and my prediction always matches his score. It's a real talent he has since he actually uses the full 1-10 range, rather than just sticking a 7 on everything like most outlets.

I was on the Madden team for ten years. Funny enough, you're spot on about a lot of things, especially Franchise. Wish the game could be good, but........oh well. Blame QA all you want, but they do their job. The problem with this game is at its core, not on QA.
PS: Trust me, 90% of the senior management team or lead devs do zero gaming at all. They don't listen to any feedback outside of Reddit. They don't go to CZcams except to post their own hype videos. Senior management is more likely to be watching movies/schmoozing between meetings, not improving the game. Love the yearly roasting, but I was seriously the only person on my team to watch them. They actively avoid the negative stuff outside their "influencers".

There's zero competition to drive the management to be invested in the product, and there's zero pressure from the NFL (who seems more concerned with profit than product quality across the board) to drive management as well. It's probably a fantastic job to have as a project manager, tbh. 🙄

People still continue to buy EA'S sports games because there is virtually no other competition, which is by design. As a result, they have zero incentive to actually make a game that not only is worth the money, but also respects the player's time, and frankly, their intelligence as a consumer.

It's been a long time since I bought a madden game. The last one I bought I remember creating my own player and playing a season of football with my player. I also was able to put him through training between every week of play which increased his stats. It was pretty epic but it was along time ago and you probably can't do those things in madden now.
I also forgot to mention that they also had historical players I was able to add to the game.

I am not even a football fan, but I watch these reviews every time you release them. I am with you on the fight and you explain things so well. But the reason why I’m in the fight more than anything is because I know that this is seeping over into all of the other games for future consequences
I am a football fan and it’s why I watch these. I just want a game where I can play as my Bears and have a good time but these games are so half baked. Is it too much to ask for a good football game where I can run around as my favorite players?

i only buy madden for franchise mode and after playing this years madden franchise and messing around i can say that its a minor improvement from every other year of franchise mode I've played would hope that one day they will put more effort into franchise mode though i don't even touch ultimate team

You know you got a top notch franchise when the reviewers put in more effort each year than the game developers.
and i hate that madden fans have yet to treat the franchise with pure apathy. they will cancel it. if madden fans treated it with pure apathy and pretend the franchise no longer exists
My doctor told me I have terminal cancer but he dropped that tier 2 animation when he told me and it was sick as hell and it really softened the blow of having terminal cancer.
at this point i simply can‘t understand why EA doesn‘t switch to a F2P model…

Skyrim had better character face creations on reptiles than Madden does, and that game came out like 11 Maddens ago.

The standard has been a lot higher than what Madden has done for the last few years. How this franchise after years and years of poor reception is still going and making a lot of money is baffling. I guess whales and addicts really do make companies a lot of money.

Nothing fucking changes. A sports fan doesn't care about CRPG's, they've never even heard of DnD. They'll buy madden / FIFA / NBA every single year and purchase a new roster of players. This "putting EA to shame", what a fucking joke. If it truly mattered, EA would've bent the knee years ago if it was bad for their business, but no. They can keep rehashing the same game over and over for decades and the money just keeps flowing in, they lose absolutely nothing from people giving these games bad reviews. The ones playing these types of games don't watch reviews, they aren't "gamers" per se, they just buy a thing with their favorite thing in it.
Thank you for turning this yearly schlock into an entertaining dissesction of the worst that AAA games industry has to offer. This is why I'm proud to be a patron.

I grew up in central Florida, so I had a couple of buddies who were testers over at EA Tiburon. Trust me when I tell you, they absolutely know it's garbage. This will not stop until people stop buying it.
I remember playing All Pro Football 2k8. They had animations that tied to specific injuries. You could tell what part of the body was injured most of the time by the animation that played. There was one where the ball carrier would fall awkwardly on his arm, and it would always be an arm related injury.
When NBA 2k had the ESPN license they literally had the ESPN NBA pregame show, with actual coaches getting pre game or post game interviews with David Aldridge and actual star NBA players with their actual voices (over hundreds of them )
Also had their NBA finals pre and post game
Also every player has their signature moves, taunts and mannerisms even players from the 1970s-2010s
2k used ESPN and actually has authenticity with the actual NBA and they make a tenth of what EA Madden makes and blows them out of the water

I still play it today. The more I play it the more awesome the game is. It has so much stuff Madden dont have. The one injury when the dude starts limping and grabbing his leg in the middle of the play is the one I see the most. The gang tackling looks right in all pro. The refs throwing the flag and turning the mic up to say what the penalty is. There is so much detail that Madden misses thats in a 16 year old game.

That was the last real good football sim game .They need to make another one and let the MUT FXGATS play MUT while the rest of us play a good football all game

The Angry Joe madden series belongs in the Louvre. It’s one of humanities greatest achievements.
Angry Joe, OJ, and Alex put more effort in these videos then EA puts into their Games that get reviewed.
Im from Singapore and we have no NFL here. But Joe's annual rant on this series is always something i look forward to!

I stopped playing Madden in general since like 17 cause I earned all of my players in MUT, never spent a dime, had a good team too. Buddy dropped dollars and instantly had a better team than me, mind you I grinded for my players, I was done after that
P.S. I remember playing through the super bowl in old games just to hear the different dialogue they would talk about each team
