According guitar solo. It’s a guy singing with an effect on the mic. They actually have a videos on how to make an acapella metal song
As far as I can remember he runs his mic through a guitar distortion with a little reverb on top. When I first saw that on stage it reminded me of Jack White who has a custom made guitar with a microphone he can pick up and sing straight through the guitars effects.
I've only heard a handful of songs from Van Canto. This is an awesome song. But I also absolutely love their cover of Primo Victoria by Sabaton if you guys wanted to check that out too. Joakim from Sabaton is featured in it.
Lots of good Van Canto suggestions in here, but I gotta put out a mention for Last Night of the Kings. Such an amazing song.

If you like a cappella renditions of rock songs you should check Hellscore. It’s a great choir from Israel that did collaborations with alestorm therion etc

its not a kazoo. the only "instrument" they use is the drum section, because its a "non-melodic" item, and thus they can still be called acapella. But they do use a Guitar-Amp on their voice and some Microphone-Mods to morph their voices.

I believe that strongly distorted guitars are bastards to mix. But I think larger combinations of metal bands with acoustic instruments or even with complete orchestras are the perfect nightmare to balance. Symphonic metal producers deserve all the credit when they do their job right (regardless of whether you like the art itself).
