  • Why Harry Potter Ended Up With Ginny Weasley Instead Of "Best Friend" Hermione Granger.

Many readers, fans and Potterheads were disappointed by the fact that Harry and Hermione didn’t end up together. This left people questioning why Harry and Hermione never dated or got close to marriage. Keep in mind that you aren’t alone in this query. J.K. Rowling has thought about this issue herself and agrees that Harry and Hermione would’ve been a better couple.
Even though J.K. Rowling has confirmed that Harry and Hermione would’ve been a better match, that doesn’t mean that’s how the story should’ve ended. Afterall, not everyone ends up with their soulmate, even if they’re right in front of them. Hermione and Harry were always great friends and may not have wanted to sacrifice that by dating. Also, it was always clear from the start to the end that Hermione had a crush on Ron. Ron and Hermione shared a connection that Harry and Hermione didn’t.
People also forget that just because Harry was the better match, that doesn’t mean Ron was a bad match. Hermione and Ron shared something special too. They made up for each other's flaws and they had a strong physical and emotional connection. If you consider that, you can see how Ron isn’t all that bad, he just might not have been as perfect a match as Harry.
Watch the video to learn all the facts about why Harry and Hermione never dated. You can decide if Ron or Harry is a better match for Hermione for yourself!

Actually.... When you read the book, completely immersed in the story.... It's very satisfying to read about Ron and Hermione's love story. It's funny, cute, passionate, original, and beautiful with all it's ups and downs.
I loved their story so much!
Ginny and Harry too... They were quite passionate once Harry realises his feelings towards Ginny.
But Ron and Hermione are a whole different feel.

And I like how it showed that yes, men and women can be just friends. My best friend is a female, and we don’t have any sexual feelings at all. Exactly what I’ve always said. They all became family members that way. Being older (my oldest son was exactly one month older than Harry was supposed to be), I know that once friends get married, the couples often drift apart. I would hate to think that Harry and Hermione got married and this caused their friendship with Ron to wane as they got older. Much better for the way they ended up in the books with them all members of the Weasley family! Young people just don’t understand this aspect of life.

Harry always saw Mr. and Mrs. Wesley as parent figures and literally got to have them as parents in the end. It all makes great sense.

I find this topic very interesting because we're dealing with two separate series that share the same name. And it's weird, because romance is not my thing. However, I see something truly special between film-counterpart Harry and Hermione that I never felt in anything else, especially the books. Yes, the cliche of the 'main guy getting the main girl' is there, but it feels far better developed than those other movies and books that have done it plenty of times before. And it's simply because those other materials did little to the bare minimum, while the Harry Potter films went above and beyond to build them up and showcase the chemistry between Daniel and Emma.
In the books, I agree that Ron and Hermione make far more sense, as does Harry and Ginny (although the development could have been better). It's very clear that Hermione and Harry are just great friends, and Harry says so plenty of times. Hermione is too nagging and controlling of Harry, while it was Ginny who never seeks to control him. In GoF, we get a glimpse of when it's just Hermione and Harry, even in Deathly Hallows. Harry felt something missing, and I'm sure Hermione did as well. They need Ron in their lives in order to keep the friendship going.
In fact, I would argue that the three need each other in the books in order for the trio to work. Harry and Hermione need Ron to level things out. Seriously, without Ron, there is no way that Hermione and Harry could have remained true friends. Nor could Harry and Ron have survived for as long as they did without Hermione. While Ron and Hermione couldn't have gotten together without Harry at the beginning of everything. That's the beauty of the novels that Rowling captured so well.
However, the movies portray something different. Hermione and Harry don't really have moments where they need Ron. With the exception of saving Harry, Ron is just there. It's Hermione who brings out the best in Harry, as does Harry in her. The tent scene in DH Part 1 showcases this where the two create their own happy moment together, because they had built something up that works between the two. Hermione is not as nagging as her book-counterpart, she isn't trying to control Harry. And Harry listens to Hermione and is patient with her. It's clear that in this universe, the two work really well together and are able to make each other smile, where their book-counterparts couldn't.
What I'm trying to say is that I'm a Harmony shipper for the movies only. In the books, I'm okay with who ended up with who, and I see the reasons for why they did. But in the movies, the characters were so different that I believe a different outcome would have been welcoming.

It also shows how the movies ruined Ron's character because the screenwriter Steve Kloves was a Hermione fan. The movies erased Hermione's flaws and giving her moments that belong to other characters (mostly Ron's). In the books Hermione was bossy, anxious, and at times kind of annoying. In the books, especially in GOF it is mentioned out of his two best friends that Harry prefers Ron. That he likes Hermione just fine but things are just a lot less fun with Hermione as his best friend. The movies made Ron into a dumb jerk, who was just treated as the comedic sidekick. In the book when Snape calls Hermione "An insufferable know it all" Ron defends her against Snape, in the movies Ron says "He's right you know."
The movies also ruined Ginny as well. Ginny in the books went from being just Ron's sister to being pretty, smart, funny, athletic, magically talented, and becoming the kind of girl that was perfect for Harry. In the movies she just remains Ron's sister and her relationship with Harry just comes out of nowhere.

My personal choice has always been Ron and Hermione because the friendship auf Harry and Hermiones has never been more than that to me. Hermione knew about Harry’s crush on Ginny and Harry knew about Hermiones crush on Ron. What makes this friendship so powerful is that they always were there for each other. Ron and Hermione had always had something there. The most obvious scene for that is in the chamber of secrets when Hermione comes running back to the boys and hugs Harry like a best friend and gives ron an awkward handshake cause there both obviously crushing.

Dude ( or dudette. w/e you prefer) . That's why I HATE how Rowling let the screeenwriter+ directors do as they PLEASED.
Book Harry+ Book Hermione couldn't even hit it off whenever Ron wasn't around.
They studied together in almost total SILENCE, with hardly a WORD ever passing between them.
They meet more out of OBLIGATION, than for the pleasure of being around one another.
And when Ron abandoned them, they could go DAYS without ever saying a WORD to one another.
      That was in the BOOKS.
But Klover( or w/e) HATED Rupert or jusr Ron in general. so he gutted Ron's character.
He and those directors all but tossed Romione out the window.
Meanwhile they constantly created scenes between Harry + Hermione, that were NEVER in the books, just so they could ship Harmione.
Rowling didn't make Harmione. Klover did. He also disliked Ginny, which is why book Ginny wasn't the same as movie Ginny.
Fuck Kloper or w/e his name was. Leave the hot damn characters as they were in the books. Write your own damn series if you don't like the characters as they were presented in the books.

For me, they took all of the magic out of HP, just so they could have their teenage drama.
And just look at how they tried so hard to pair Harry with Hermione.
In the books, they were nearly brother+ sister. It never got beyond that.

However, I do wish they developed Harry and Ginny's relationship more so it didn't seem like it sprung up rather abruptly.

I don’t think they would even be happy together as when hermiones flaws was quite visible he didn’t open his mouth about it but Ron did and hermione needs someone to keep her in control and that was Ron. And if hermione was upset she would just cry about it and it’s quite clear in the books that Harry liked strong girls who didn’t get upset over everything and that was Ginny. Ron should have ended up with Luna or another character that matched his energy. Someone who softened his tendency for flippant judgement and who didn't bicker with him. Also someone totally from his world who shared an appreciation for his quirks and nerdiness for things that Hermione saw as beneath her intellect. He and Hermione were toxic lol.
Harry and Hermione just made sense. Sometimes something being obvious is taken to be 'too easy', and therefore unbelievable, but in this instance; where you have the obvious staring you in the face and you deny it, you're making things harder than they need to be. Harry and Hermione were the perfect hero/heroine, I mean, the alliteration Rowling loved oh so much speaks for itself here. Romantically they made sense BECAUSE they had a friendship of substance, which is how many great relationships evolve in real life.
They knew everything about each-other and loved each other platonically, so once they came of age it made sense that their attraction would blossom. They also had commonality in their association with the muggle world, it would have been easy for them to go between worlds together.
Ron and Hermione (on-screen especially) just didn't make sense. Also the chemistry between Rupert and Emma translated really well as friends, not as lovers. Had Ron been given a love interest that didn't make him seem like the loser third wheel, Harry and Hermione would have been able to feel no guilt and their dynamic would simply be from friends to lovers, just as Ron and Hermione's was, only in an even more satisfying way for readers and viewers.
From a character standpoint, a young woman like Hermione would be driven insane by someone like Ron, and Ron would have felt perpetually misunderstood and belittled by women. Had Ron and Hermione's burgeoning attraction to each other not been written in the books at all, I doubt fans would have rooted for them. Also Harry and Ginny...c'mon now. I guess that was supposed to be some sort of aesthetic homage to Harry's parents and the way they looked, but give the man his own life, please!
This whole farce and Snape dying instead of Malfoy are two big character plot points I would have changed.

Okay can we stop saying that JKR said she regretted Ron and Hermione. That never actually came out of her mouth here is what she’s said...
    1. Harry is a better fit for Hermione, as in he is more compatible. As the video points out however, just because you’re more compatible with someone doesn’t mean you love them romantically.
    2. Ron and Hermione lack a fundamental compatibility and have key personality traits and insecurities that would make sustaining an adult relationship hard but not impossible. She believes that they probably had marriage counseling to help with this and that’s a perfectly reasonable thought. She has also admitted that despite their problems Ron and Hermione balance each other out and truly love one another.
A quick observation about Harry and Ginny. Their sudden but ultimately genuine romantic relationship is almost identical to my parents.
My mother was in love with my father at 11-even told his youngest sister (one of her best friends) that she would marry him the first time she saw him. He didn’t notice her until she was 14 going on 15. They dated briefly, broke up because of a six year age difference, but got back together after crossing paths again in her early twenties and they were married and 3 of us were born before my mom turned 30. They’ve been married 30+ years and counting despite being almost polar opposites and did it without marriage counseling.
So yeah all the fans who think the pairings JKR settled on would never happen IRL, I borrow a line from the office and say loudly... IN, YOUR FACE!! 🤣

I know, I'm sorry, I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I'm absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility.
Am I breaking people's hearts by saying this? I hope not."

Sofia Mendes Sieczkowska read the entire article. She talks about both. There several paragraphs about heroes journey writing and that the rules say that main male protagonist and female main protagonist should be together. She says that Harry and Hermione are the main protagonists. Yet that is THE ONLY REASON for Harry and Hermione being together. Ron is someone that needs Hermione, Harry really doesn’t. People rarely end up with the one that seems to be the perfect one because he or she rarely is. The end she wrote doesn’t follow the rules but it is real.

Sofia Mendes Sieczkowska the site I read had only part of the article. Figures that they take out the part about her talking about male/female protagonist rules because it’s more fun to twist stuff around SMH.
I’m so glad she didn’t cave to that literary norm. She treated her characters like real people. Very often the person we fall in love with is not who we are most compatible with but the one who challenges us the most. Then you have soul mates who come to understand each other completely and keep each other grounded.
JKR ultimately did exactly what she should have done which is followed her gut. It figures that people twist what she said into regret. When all she really meant was that by typical hero’s journey rules Hermione should have ended up with Harry, but she said screw the rules and wrote very human relationships. She knew her characters well and knew who they needed.
To this day I don’t really care for the movies for spawning a lot of ships that don’t make any sense and botching so much of JKR’s brilliantly crafted story and characters. It should have been a TV series. The universe is too big and characters too multidimensional for movies to do the books justice. Even though the acting and scenery is excellent.

Harry being with Ginny makes sense as the Weasleys always treated him like family and he didn't really have any. Ron and Hermione wouldn't have an easy relationship, but it would have been fun and one where they would help each other. Ron was fun and laidback and Hermione was always busy and uptight. If they kept an open mind, they could help each other out with those things. Also, it reaffirms the way the Weasleys are with a pure blood marrying a muggle born. Also, their parents already got along which is always nice. I just hate that they didn't have Dudley marry a witch.

I personally don't think Hermione should have ended up with Ron but definitely not with Harry either. As it was, Ginny was barely featured in the movies, even the second movie, in which she was the damsel in distress. To anyone who had never read the books, their relationship would make absolutely no sense whatsoever. Harry ended up having much more meaningful interactions with Luna Lovegood in the movies than he did with Ginny. I'll explain The Real Reason...
In "Order of the Phoenix" Harry spent the whole book in such a bad mood that it frightened Hermione and Ron so much that they were consequently unable to face him and unable to calm him down, even though Hermione tried more than once, unsuccessfuly I might add.
Who was able to do it?
Ginny, of course, first she looked him in the eyes and showed him clearly that she understood what he was going through more than any other, as she too was possessed by Voldemort, then, when Harry lost his temper and vocally attacked Hermione, it was once again Ginny who put him in his place, calling him, without calling him, an imbecile, making him see that they were not his enemies and that they only wanted to help
    him.
One might think that Hermione's fear of Harry disappeared after this, but it's not true...
In "The Half-Blood Prince" it was because they were afraid of Harry that Hermione and Ron reprimanded him for using the Sectum Sempra curse in Malfoy.
For her part, Ginny, although she did not accept what Harry did, she supported his decision anyway and stood by his side, without judging him. It is also important to note that it was from Ginny that Harry accepted help to hide the book of the Half-Blood Prince.
Then the cherry on top of the cake. When Dumbledor fell from the tower, dead, nobody tried to approach Harry who was crying, desolated at his side, out of respect, yes, but mainly because they were afraid that
Harry would attack them if they tried to approach. This fear was shared by Hermione and Ron, however Ginny ignored this fear and was the only one able to console him, embracing him tenderly, taking him away from the corpse at the same time.
    Then there is trust...
In the books there are several times when Hermione doubts Harry, even though everything indicates to her that he is right and understands more than she does about Voldemort.
Ginny in turn is NEVER shown to doubt him, she may not always agree with his rashness, having no problem telling him, but she never doubts him, even when she is already a young adult who cannot be impressed by his fame.
You will tell me that blind trust is bad... Yes it is, which brings me to another small point for me and for those who defend Harry's relationship with Ginny...
Harry, in his unconscious mind doesn't see Hermione as an equal because although she is able to debate her ideas with him, whenever Harry raises his voice or casts a fulminating gaze, she turns her gaze away or retreats with some justification, trying to escape. Now, this is not synonymous with equality or respect; on the contrary, with these attitudes, Hermione is unconsciously telling Harry that he is right, even when he is not.
Let us look at Ginny, who perhaps because she is a Weasley, in these situations her behaviour with Harry is completely different, she has no problem at all in giving him the same look as he does, nor does she need to raise her voice to calm him down and make him see reason. Now, THIS is the behaviour of someone who knows her own value, and of someone who respects herself and respects him, therefore, being respected by him, which is what defines their relationship.
While between Harry and Hermione, Harry is clearly the Alpha, between Harry and Ginny, Harry is the Alpha, but Ginny is the Beta (basically the Female Alpha of a pack of wolves), not having any problem "bitting" Him if needed!
    Summary:
Yes, Ginny started as a super shy fan of the Harry Potter figure, however, as the years went by and they spent more time together as friends, Ginny was, curiously, the one who grew closest to the human being Harry Potter, becoming, first, a friend of him and then falling in love with what he was as a person. The fame he had and has had little importance for Ginny and this can be seen in the way she confronts him and calms him whenever he loses control of his temper.
For the grown up Ginny it didn't matter if Harry was famous or not, while for everyone else, Hermione included, that fame was always present, even if only in her subconscious!
For Ginny, Harry was "The Boy who Survived" Yes, but then he became her friend and then he was the boy she grew to love for what he was as a person, despite everything else, while for Hermione Harry was the "Boy who Survived" that ended becoming her friend!
And this is why Ginny is the woman who should have ended up with Harry, just as she did!

    How they can love....
There was no such a moment before half blood Prince that we can say harry and ginny would be good couple or can be couple
And why they showed harry and Hermione moment more than ron...
So it's obvious, more people won't like that

Bonnie is plenty attractive. But yes Emma is way more attractive than Hermoine is supposed to be. Also movie Ginny is shy, while book Ginny is a social butterfly. Movie Hermoine is socially competent while book Hermoine is so bad at making new friends that she hangs with Hagrid when she's fighting with Ron and Harry.
