I got gunned by K band last night in Oakbrook Terrace just outside of Chicago. He was turning it on and off while sitting just over the crest of a bridge. My r4 gave me plenty of warning.
So he was doing the instant on I see... good catch.
Sneaky.
I can definitely agree with the comment that K band is still around. It is especially still prevalent in rural areas on two lane roads in some southeastern states at least. I was driving back from NC after Christmas 2023 after seeing my family on my way back to my home in FL. I was just south of Lugoff, SC on Hwy 601 (I avoid I-95 as much as possible after holidays especially) when I got a weak then rapidly increasing to a strong K signal on my Uniden R7 detector as I was going up a hill near the summit (no businesses in the area with door openers, etc.) It didn't seem quite like all the other false K signals we are accustomed to from certain Mazdas for example, plus it was a different frequency, so I backed it down from the 12-15 over I was doing at the time to the posted speed limit. As soon as I topped the hill there he was, a County Mounty parked just over the top of the hill pointing at oncoming traffic running constant on K band. Whew! So glad I didn't ignore that warning! Every time I encounter a LEO running CO, I say to myself, "Thank you for running CO!"
CO is usually stronger than falses.
Good reason to not disable K-Band, especially in smaller cities/towns.
K is still around.
