Just started using this today. So far it's awesome. Just makes the R8 even better. Can't believe how good this thing works even in the Appalachian mountains of Ky/ wv.

@@HeyJettRink - The companion apps add additional layers of filtering using advanced logic not found in the detector itself. The radar app number (R8, R4, etc.) correlate to the detector name. So, if you have a Uniden R8, you would get R8 companion.

I just got the R8 and saw this video so I bought the companion app and it has been really amazing. I park in a parking garage and hate that K band lockouts don’t work with GPS unavailable. This app allows GPS warm up and mutes those which is awesome. Great app!

Nice job I love the iOS app for the R8 it really quiets it down and love the full screen for my old eyes. Looks like the R4 app may be next. Lol😂

Love the app definitely helped my R8 quiet down! Would like to know what does the “No Stale” option do? I’ve been looking for information but haven’t found the answer yet.
The 'Stale' button will show you the SpotLocks (location lockouts) that haven't been detected recently in the past. If it is showing "No stale", this means you don't have any stale locations to possibly clean up. When you do, this will allow you to clean up your location lockout database depending on how often you travel a particular area. For example, I have areas I travel to for vacation about every year, so I would only clear out the 'stale' locations using the "Remove over 365 days" option when it became available.

Outstanding app for R8! Thank you for developing. I have a question, I noticed that in this video the voice was Larry Morgan. In my app it’s Susan Bennett. Am I able to change the voice?
Thank you for your support. yes, you can go into your iOS settings and change the voice used. Go to settings->Accessibility->Spoken Content->Voices and you can change your voice to whatever you would like. I believe the only one Apple doesn't let you use is the Siri voice.
How well does the R8 protect from RDD?

Is it possible for this app to be made to work with CarPlay, or does Apple have strict guidelines on what can work with CarPlay?
Totally possible, BUT Apple's current strict guidelines won't allow it. We want a dedicated CarPlay app as much as anyone. Hopefully they will relax some of their requirements. Right now you have to be a full fledged navigation app to qualify.

I just bought the r8 companion app. It works great. Really like the software and the interface. I see on this video that the Mark and Mute/DIM button are in blue color. Is this something that the app can change the buttons color?
Not at this time, but there is a "backlight" option in the detector settings. Make sure that is ON. The color can't be changed as far as I know.
If you change settings via the app, will those settings hold even if you’re not using the app on your next drive?
There are settings for the firmware of the detector (tap on the R8 green gear in the app), that persist even when the detector is not connected to the app. The other settings in the app, (audio, app settings), only apply when the detector is connected to the app.
Now that this app has been out for a couple of months, would you say this makes the R8 a better detector than the Redline360c, or is the Redline truly the best on the market?
Thanks for your support. It really comes down to your preferences and needs in your particular area. The R360c is great at detecting 'constant on' radar from a distance and at being quiet around false alerts. The Uniden R8, R4 are great at 'instant on' and detecting short bursts of radar that the R360c will miss. I prefer the Uniden R8, R4 for its ability to detect quick bursts of Radar and using the companion apps to quiet them down against falsing at similar levels of the R360c. You can't go wrong with either one, and maybe a new firmware in the future will help the R360c's ability to detect short bursts.
Great to know. So if I understand correctly, the 360c (in its current state) will be better for situations like a straight highway while the Uniden will likely be better for forested, hilly, and windy roads, correct?
Regarding your comment on a firmware update for the Redline. How likely do you see this happening based on historical detectors? This detector has been on sale for a few years now, so I’m wondering if they’ll focus on a new detector instead. Thanks for your time and thoughts!
@@bslcars2352 The R8 will be just as great on straight roads as well. It really comes down to if you need to be able to detect quick bursts or radar. If you face K band threats, R8 will be better at detecting those and alerting you more quickly. If you face mainly Ka, either will be great!
