Just got the V1 yesterday and feel as if the alert volume is not very loud at the highest level compared to my max360. It’s hard to tell in videos but does your volume seem loud enough compared to other detectors
yes its plenty loud that's for sure and I like to run my music loud

I live in NC. Very few towns run K band. 34.7 KA and 35.5 KA is the most common radar in NC. I run my detectors with X band and K band off.
Was on I40 today got a lot of Ka falsing from behind today no idea why. Jusy did the recent update when I got home. Hopefully it will fix that
Yeah but I run the V1 with the V1 Companion app. It adds a ton of functionality. Mine never goes off around K band unless its super sudden and strong.
I only run Ka, cant be bothered by the once in a lifetime hit with K around here
I own V1 gen 2 and several V1’s bought a under R7 it’s amazing for the money but the V1 gen 2 sometimes picks up miles ahead of the R7 so I bought the R8 just because of its features … had both detectors going with a k own KA cop at store got curious drove as far as the under R8 would detector rear kept driving turned around facing the source cop with V1gen2 off and then gps mapped the first sign of detection with the R8 … did the same thing with the V1 gen 2 and was almost a mile greater detection than the R8 … I love both but V1gen2 has a superior detection edge on uniden !
Yeah, I could have gotten all technical but people don't understand the attenuation around a turn or hill makes it so it really doesn't matter which detector you use. But it does make a big difference Between a good detector and a cheap one on the highway straight ahead no obstacles little signal blocking. But even then I find I Slow Down earlier than everyone else and they all get in front of me and Drive Slow. Then have to pass them again. You get a good detector in hopes of catching instant on farther back. There's a big long debate about this. In the end most people just get with cheapest.
I really want to support Valentine. I stopped running detectors back in 11 when my gen 1 got stolen. Im thinking about getting one again, but im torn on which one. The range issue drives me to V1, but the display of the V1 makes me think its 1992 all over again. In addition, im thinking about getting laser jammers as i do a lot of urban suburban roads in the mix.
I dont really need K band so I shut that off and tbe V1 quiet as a church mouse even without the JBV1 add on

I want the V1 for the dispaly. I had to get a R7 because the V! was on back order. The display goes out when its hot or cold here

dude your r8 is on the dash and it is blocking the front antenna you have to get them side by side if you going to compare them.

A whole lot of effort, to do test, with such an obvious flaw. Such an easy thing to fix to make it more accurate of a test. Plus, he doesn't want to mark the windshield, which 100% can wipe off, but said maybe I'll use the cc glue for the dash regarding the r8. Makes zero sense to me.
Plus he was running the r8 on auto instead of highway much greater range in highway
I want to see a really good comparison, of these two against K and Ka radar sources. By themselves and with one run each. To get a better idea oh which to choose. If you can find the time thanks.
Yeah been meaning to do that. I have a Ka 35.5 radar but no K band stuff. I will retest for sure. But can tell you I was out with my wife driving her car with the Uniden R8. It was remarkably quiet and love the GPS lockouts. We did approach 2 Ka encounters and I can tell right away that the V1 G2 has more range in Ka detection. But I will run another test to confirm.

Thanks for the video. I wish the detectors were mounted similar to see if the V1 was really better. I do like the uniden audible sounds better than the old school. Im leaning to V1 because its made in USA (I hope) Where is Uniden made?
I know true but you know you're really not supposed to run 2 detectors at the same time so. I should do a more elaborate test. Give me a few weeks.

since you mounted the radar detector on the dash its facing downwards and blocking the signals for the uniden r8
I see what you're saying, but I don't think it's all that important in fact, if you've ever operated a transceiver at those frequencies, you'll know that just moving it a few inches can create nulls and enhancements from multipath reception. It's like being hit with the spray from a hose not a solid stream. The signals can also fade in and out. I was just giving a general idea. I'd really need a signal generator to compare exactly. But in reality we all know the attenuation of a signal as you go around a corner the difference between a very good detector and a average one going around a mountain corner might be milliseconds. Its the long straight runs where both have ridiculous range. Off hand the two units are very close however the R8 is more narrow at least at the front. Detection range using one VS the other. You're not gonna really notice much of a difference unless side by side simultanious That's why most detector tests you see from other youtube's show that the range is not repeatable. The r8 Also picked up a bunch of garbage on k band even using recommended settings. I turned off K on both detectors. My preference is the V1 over the R8 but both are great units and the range difference is like splitting hairs.

I've been running a V1 gen 1 for about 5+ years and I've been thinking about upgrading but I like the Uniden because the different colors it displays when it goes off. When you're cruising and focusing on the road, if the detector doesn't grab your attention then you are not going to react.
Both will get your attention. The R8 is very obtrusive. Had to mount it way up high because of it.
@@Sky1 I'm leaning towards the V1 gen 2 but I would like to see different colors as the threat gets closer or more intense like the Concealed Display for V1
V1 picks the signs with signals coming out. Most of the highways signs use k band. Also look for cellular towers are near by.

Those k on the valentine might be the R8. I think there about the same. I like the screen with frequency and clock speed on the R8 better.

I have a friend who needs to upgrade her R7. I might do a video on it. There is an aftermarket software for it that I hear is great.

Good attempt at testing them both, but running them side by side like this will produce completely unreliable results. Radar detectors are notorious for interfering with each other, especially in close proximity of one another like in your test. They will perform much different individually with no interference. This test should not be used to determine the performance of either detector in this testing scenario.
Thanks my test is far from scientific. Just playin. But range results shown are a very close represention of what we see with these units when running just one at a time. I might do another side by side and run one at a time and video it when I have time but pretty sure results will be similar. The V1G2 has more range on Ka 35.5 than the R8 when off axis an almost identical when straight ahead

You’re not supposed to run both radars in the same vehicle next to each other, regardless it messes with the frequencies, so this isn’t quite professional but I do see what you’re trying to do and respect the video thank you

Video is a year old, guessing you’ve learned a little. There are apps for Both the detectors. If the V1 is noisy, on K, you haven’t set it up the app right. The Uniden needs time to do lockouts unless you manually lock out.
I dont run K anymore on either unit.
V1 1990s radar detector with app now. It hilarious with k falses Pretty worthless unless u wanna lose ur mind and leave k on.

R8 is 20X more complex than the V1 gen 2
The V1 detects leakage from other radar detectors. And some police radar that's off somehow.
Can you show me anything that shows one being interfered by the other? We are not using old cobras here
@@Sky1 Don't know if CZcams still has these 2 videos on it's been along time ago. One had to do with one friend following another and his radar detector flashed a J for junk of his friends detector following in his small pickup truck.. The other is a guy traveling down the highway but instead a of cheap detector he sees a cop in his car. It flashes the J for junk and the driver thinks something ain't right about the radar gun off calibration or something. Like I said it's been years ago when I seen these videos. Time of the Generation 1 Valentine.
Even with a 2022 fix Valentine One Gen 2 still gets phantom Ka alerts and the Uniden R8 not perfect either. If GPS isn't a problem and you don't mind using the app the Valentine One Gen is the better barging and built quality are better than the Uniden R8. Own the Valentine One since 1999 and never relied on the arrows, aren't always accurate. Currently used a Uniden R4 most of the time than my V1 Gen 2 but I like both the V1 Gen2 and Uniden R8. Auto lockout on the Uniden, check your expert settings to make sure its on.

The R8 is a great detector not to take anything away from the V1G2 if you run the V1G2 with JBV1 It makes it an even better detector. the V1G2 doesnt show you anything other thren arrows you need a phone and app for everything. Running 2 detectors at the same time takes away from the perfomance of the detectors. Im sure your wife will love the R8
Your V1 with K on is picking up car sensors. It’s still superior to any other radar detector even the Uniden.
You should also run V1 on little L always.

I thought AUTO uses GPS determined speed to determine best sensitivity to use. Is that not right?
r8 is much better detector than val 1 , my r 8 picks up ka band 3 miles away

You have the r8 too low.
Yeah just got it and was testing. It is now up a bit high on my wife's car above the rear view. The light are very distracting so it needs to go up high but works pretty good, not quite as good as the V1 Gen 2 but very close and the features and lockout is very good but still falses, my wife had me turn on K band because of it.
Very bad comparison. Uniden R8 all at the bottom and blocked while Valentine One at the top.
