- I'm chasing old trucks again! This time the ugliest old Bedford truck... because my wife likes it! Join us on a roadtrip on the Garden Route in South Africa to go and look at the truck and see three girls and my grandson "test drive" the Bedford in the end!

Good show old boy glad I subscribed Duffy hahahahahaha 😆 🤣 😂 my dad worked with a Quebec Frenchman here in canada who's name was Duffy he had no teeth and they worked for the city sewer division and Duffy had a big collection of people's dentures he had found while working down in the sewer but never wore any himself lol!

I’ve never really been into rat rods before, but you my far away friend are slowly changing my mind. Looking forward to catching up on all your past videos as well as what you end up doing with this one. And as a side note. I always wondered what the country in South Africa looked like, thank you for the short tour.

Yo I'm in canada ottawa the nation's capital where ths parliament buildings are how's your water situation here we get rain all the time too much sometimes but it's all good canada has the most fresh water in the world this is paradise compared to other countries

Last I knew he sold his Company in the Netherlands and retired. I've lost his contract info since the last time his Wife and him came to Utah. I never met the rest of the Family. Listening to you talk is fun but makes me miss him. Us Dutch people after WWII went in all directions.Move that Truck up on the Honey do list. As in honey do this Honey do that. I think that baby wants to drive it.

Think of it as a poor man's 55 Chevy pickup. You can do plenty if you have other axles lying around. Stud pattern odd ball 6 x 205, very course thread. Have put a Holden 304 in mine, next is twin turbo setup.
Think I will just stick the cab onto a more modern chassis and drive train
Maybe drop it on another hardbody chassis. My daily is a D21. TD27 diesel running crazy boost. The TD27s are pretty bullet proof.
TJ bedford. The TA-TD looked better because it looked like a chev truck from the 50s
This should be instrastine to watch how this truck turns out. Can never go wrong with a truck build.
A J1 Bedford, Awesome trucks NZ used to be littered with em, sadly not anymore they all got worked into the ground.

This is a very good truck, I'm thinking your wife wants one of your creations for herself! Only she wants to keep it more normal than rat. And that would be great! Give her the options and let her decide herself. Love to see how it goes.

I had one of those J2 beddies in NZ a long time ago, 425 cid buick donk and auto with a CIG locker was so much fun,
I would install an engine and let her drive it think of the smiles!

Hi there. I am equally excited to see this build. I have a similar truck that I am hoping to restore. I managed to get a Lexus V12 with gearbox for cheap. The idea is to drop it in without any mods except for motor mounts, suspension and brakes of course. Is it “sensible” or should i do a V8 swap?? It is running a stock straight six currently
Hello Ron. Depends on what you want hey? I'm old school, so I wil always go for a original V8 over Lexus. Those things have too many electronics for my taste, parts are very expensive and they are impossible to fix... When they break, you buy another one, it is cheaper! Nothing beats the reliability of old school V8's. Chevy or Ford, doesn't matter. But many okes play with Lexus, this is just my opinion...🙂

It's a Bedford, early 60's. Was built in the UK. Nope, patiently standing under a tree...waiting for some love...

Hi Dif. I was brought up fixing Bedford trucks and vans with my Dad. I remember going all over the country in a Bedford cf van with sliding doors when i was knee high to a grasshopper, fixing all sorts of plant hire equipment. Sliding doors wide open in the summer. Propa air con!!. Plus i come from 20 miles away from Bedford town. Though they weren't build there. The army boys used them for donkeys years over here. Simple and reliable ish motors. But look like they fell out the ugly tree and hit every branch!!.
What motor you putting in it?
A Cummins lump would suit it!.
Definitely not a red Cortina engine. Not even the 3.0 litre version that you got over there but we never got over here for some reason? Grrr 😎

😂So you know them well! I drove both Bedford trucks and buses when I was in the South African army, 1980/81. Compulsory service back then. This one doesn't have its engine anymore. Cummins 6BT would be great! 😎 Actually we don't have any final plans for it yet, but the general idea is to just use the cab and stick it on a more modern frame and drive train. No rush yet, we will see... I've got one of those Ford Essex V6 3 litre engines in my black recovery rig

I had a great South African friend when i was a dispatch rider down in London 20 odd years ago. The comradeship between us all was amazing. Riders were getting killed way to frequently unfortunately. It was the the 2nd most dangerous job officially at the time. The bomb squad being number one, and north sea divers being 3rd on the list. So I've often thought it must be a bit like the bond soldiers have, though I've never had to serve.
