This was a great insight into how a car mutates on track and our racing driver deals with that mutating of tyres starting go off and fuel loads depleting. Great video David, really good for up-and-coming drivers to really practice what you’re teaching them.

This explanes why alot of rallycross and rally drivers "stab" the brake into a turn that does not really need a lower speed.. that it helps rotation to be able to get on the throttle sooner.
Oh i commented too early, you said it yourself in the last part of the video :))

It`s a bit more complicated that this, because you can actually study this topic for a loooong time to understand it correctly. Don´t forget that the circle may get bigger, but you now also have not only lateral forces for steering the car, but also longitudinal forces for braking. A tyre can only carrie a certain amount of force. The benefit of a bit of braking is that you move the contact patch a bit in front of the middle of the tyre. Therefore the most lateral force created from the tyre is closer at the point of the highest load (the middle) and you increas the friction coefficent and basically the tyre get more efficent which means you can get more lateral force even you add some longitudinal force. Therefore you can see that most pro drivers will smash into the brakes to slower the car down and stay just a bit on the brake when turning in. In rallycross on softer surfaces, wheel spin can help to get a bit more grip and you can also see that the brake balance is much more aggressive. Also the diff lock needs to be considered. While braking in rallycross, the diff lock can go really low and this helps the car to turn much better.

Man I don't know how I didn't see these sooner! Getting real tips from a driver of your caliber is amazing! I hope you find time to more like this. Maybe I could talk you into analyzing some of my iracing races/laps?

Great video David, really well explained. Do you receive from the engineers over the weekend showing loads at certain corners ?
