This was such a cool episode purely because it’s so much fun having a spotlight on a few upcoming indies and hearing the people literally making it talking about the inception, process, status and everything else just amped me up way more for these games than I was before.

  • @aozgolo
    @aozgolo Před 2 lety +5

"Indie" traditionally just meant a game company that works independently from a major financial backer like a large publisher. In modern usage though the term has grown beyond that and now is tied to specific elements like the budget of the game, the size of the team, and sometimes just the general look of the game. There are some who called games like "This War Is Mine" or "Child of Light" indie games despite being made by a huge AAA company like Ubisoft just because of their aesthetics.
I think it's also safe to say that Indie is a fluid term when it comes to games. Something like Minecraft which began as a pure indie project of one guy is now a property worth over a billion dollars and has a huge team of people working on it at various levels, so it's hardly an indie game anymore.
As for Nintendo I really do think they should focus their Indie Directs on the less well known Indie projects over the more successful and popular ones, and those can go into the main directs. Just like Nintendo doesn't want to overshadow it's first party titles with third party ones that have similar premises, it would be a bit criminal I think to have someone's labor of love Indie game overshadowed because it was "the filler in the Silksong Direct"

Heyo! First of all thank you both for the podcast! I started listening this week and I've really enjoyed it :)
Little suggestion, just because you got me hooked on some topics. It took me a while to really figure out what Card Shark was called (not a native English speaker), for example and hearing you talk about it, really got me excited for the game, I just had to replay the moment you said the name several times to understand what it's name was (again I'm not native-english), so maybe you could link indie titles you speak of in the episode?
It might have legal implications I don't know about, but you're doing such a great job, I thought I'll just drop the suggestion and you see if it fits or not.
Keep it up and thank you for your work!

I wish more developers would put out demos. I think most don't realize they're considered an accessibility tool for gamers with various disabilities. Demos are how we analyze if we'll be able to play a game and end up purchasing it. One of the worst feelings is getting hyped for a game, spending money on it, and then finding out its unplayable for you and you can't get s refund. Alternatively, there are games we refrain from buying because we can't tell if they'll be accessible so we miss out on some awesome games.

Personally, I really liked the indie direct, especially another crabs treasure (crab souls) and totally accurate battle simulator. Also the green screen was done SUPER well, I would have never noticed it.

I think when the Wii u rolled out and nobody wanted to make games for their platforms Nintendo really learned to appreciate the Indies they even cited that's why they don't have virtual console at first on the switch

Loving these podcasts, I'm guessing the weird black line scrolling down on the TV screen is due to Wood being on green screen.

Legit wouldn’t have known Wood was greenscreened in until they said so. So good.

This was a really interesting look into the gaming industry. It feels like Wood and Wulff are really going to take this podcast places... unless they're set on making fun of each other, which works, too.

Since you mentioned Wood was greenscreened in, I can see it around his legs and the fact the chair and mic don't react properly

I find it funny that when I searched for "Nontendo" I couldn't find the podcast. Only the real Nintendo channel.
Then I tried searching for "Nontendo Podcast" but it auto corrected to "Nintendo podcast" and first result was the Nontendo podcast.

I love Inde games sometimes it is hard to find good games with a different twist. Just like you said Woods about Rock music. it is nice to find something fresh and different to play or listen to. I download liberated last night what a game. It is a comic book but also a game. I don't think the AAA game developers would think of creating this. I wanted to thank you and Wulff for doing this podcast. For someone who is an occasional gamer and don't really know enough to make solid opinions on games it is great to have gamer content creators to give insights to these topics.

This is a great discussion. Love that more people are starting to realize the gaps between smaller indie devs and the "triple I" devs!
