What do you think about this week's bike news?
It was high time Vans rolled out a MTB shoe! That sole has terrific grip. I use their BMX shoe also for the trail and if that shoe had toe protection I'd use it for the rougher stuff as well.
we got some Kona's donated to our mountain bike team, and I must say they are the best quality entry level bikes the club has. Not that they don't have much better bikes to offer but of that entry level, I was impressed at the quality jump of specialized, and Marin, even trek.
coolest pic of steve cabarello in the bowl front 50 under the mtb air
#Quiz Paul Van Doren is one of the founders of vans, in 1966 Anaheim California, alongside Serge D’Elia and Gordon Lee. And Paul Van Doren isn’t Andoran, he was from Boston Massachusetts
I have a Kona Dr Dew hybrid. I've had it that long. I can't remember when I bought it. I did change the original brakes within a year or two. As I didn't get on with them. I fitted 2004 Hope Mono Mini brkes. Last year I replaced thew with the Hope Tech3 X2 brakes. Mainly to be able to centre the calipes easier. They also could have done with a bkoody good service. I haven't been gentle with it. As I ride it off road as well. I've lost count of how many mountain bikes I've since buying my Kona. Also I don't usually sell my bikes. I've only ever sold 2 bikes. With modern bikes been as good as they are. Maybe my current mountain bikes will not be going to the recycling in the sky for a good few years.
One HUGE thing to point out as an almost 30yr BMXer...who has ridden Vans the entire time(including the BMX specific line)...they still haven't changed the damn toe shape to be more biking-friendly. They're using the same old skate-style lasts with pointy toes. However, their MTE line has much better toe boxes and the reversed tread design is unbelievably sticky/grippy on platform pedals. Just rode a pair a Freeriders from 5.10 for the first time and can honestly say the MTE tread is absolutely on par with the Freerider tread...it's just a more pliable sole.
Yeah the MTEs are insanely grippy for a non mtb specific shoe, so comfy as well
@@funnyyellowdog7325 Only downside is longevity/durability. The rubber wears a lot faster due to the softness and it's pretty easy to blow out stitching...I wore the Sk8-Hi MTEs for BMX the last few years specifically because of the grip.
#quiz - oh a bit of a tricky question this one - Van Doren is the surname of two of the original founders of Vans footwear - the brothers Paul and James - however more recently it would refer to Paul's son Steve Van Doren (who has piloted Vans to where they are today). VDFPR (Van Doren Factory Pedal Recipe) is a couple of years old now and has come from the BMX range.
I wrenched at a Kona dealer in Ontario from 2007 to 2009. I've still got a Kona Hei Hei Ti 26, Jake the Snake and Hei Hei 29 as part of my collection. Tough news to hear. Something about greed killing the spirit of cycling. Shame on them
Would love to see any and everything there is to see with a gearbox in that DH thing
Would like some info for doing a mixed wheel set-up how would I go about it, with headsets etc?
Dang, those vans by yt sold out already. Looking at the vans bmx peak and they look like the could work for MTB as well.
Got van grips V2 waffle pattern sole for my new emtb in Grey there so smart but damb there solid!
#AskGMBNTech Why do we use CO2 cartridges to fill our tyres, Since CO2 has a significantly higher solubility in rubber is it not detrimental to use it in tyres?
Why not use HPA (High Pressure Air)?
Do they use the CO2 cartridges because the manufacturing process is already there for air guns and its a cost thing?
I was living in Durango Colorado when the mtb championships was going on in 1990.
if been using vans bmx 114 for last couple years now. very solid flat padel shoe. great protection and cushion. way better priced than competitor mtb shoes
Rock shox flight attendt has been spotted on Boxxers so that's new gos for this week Iol
When I grew up vans and converses were really not cool especially in the late 1990's to early 2000's when flats became a thing we bought them for mountain biking because they were like 30-40$ canadian CHEAP and a pair of sticky sole DVS or Globe was like 100$+ mtb use ate about a pair per month 😂
Did Neil ever make a follow-up video on his derailleur bending on his canyon?
1990 mammoth mountain, I have it on VHS 😮
I enjoyed watching Rich and his kid brother. 😀
#quiz - Brothers Paul and James van Doren founded Vans shoe company. And no, not Andoran, they were from Boston!😊
Looked away for a second and you'd swapped chairs - thought I was losing it!
😅
Odi already has Vans Grips
Dont you dare to ruin Kona! They have so much fans who will protest.
Don't worry we are not, we love Kona!
Kona forever! Still got my DH stinky from 2003! That and my Giant Atx shows how long been off my bike after accident near ripped my arm off! But this year bit the bullet as turned 39 and splashed on an emtb yo ease back into it! Speant a fortune already on it haha back to my youth! 😂
I think @@gmbntech that he meant "the owners"
Tbh the Kent outdoors transaction did ruin Kona. Let's just hope a very rich and passionate person will buy. Personally I don't think it will happen it's probably going to get much worse 😭
Well, if you haven't been buying enough Konas then capitalism will take it from you.
Sliders aren't cool. Never have been - especially with socks lol.
Kent is a city in Washington State, Owen.
The gossip will 99% be about Yt and Norco 😂
Kona had 2 for 1 deal last December 😢 sounds like they clearing out
The Kona bail out at Sea Otter makes absolutely no sense. Companies pay the big bucks months in advance to secure those vendor spaces and the reps were there and they were doing their job and zingo, the rug gets pulled out from under their feet. It seems vindictive, if only to their people who could have pitched the company line and had some fun in that warm California sun.
I thought wigs were out? 😏

When are Vans going to make a clip in shoe?
Just bought some of the bmx 114 vans 😂
You mean 'again'? they made the Warner shoe...
@@tim__sadler I looked them up a few years back before getting my shimano me7’s and was wishing I could find some.
It would be nice to find or for vans to make some.
@@simonlarkin6347 when I looked at Warners and compared them to other shoes at the time, they just didn't stack up - they could come back with something pretty special now though.
is that his real hair? I can't quite tell...
Sure is it’s all my own 😅
What’s happened to Isaac Mundy? Is he still part of GMBN?
Love you guys but where’s Anna??? Feels like it’s been weeks since she’s been on.
Alien abductions are a real issue. Damn I liked Anna 😂
I've been travelling for two weeks. I'm back on the next show! Thanks for missing me 🤗
@@AnnaOnTheBike yay! Glad you were able to get some personal time away. You deserved it! 😊
Regular corporate shenanigans, nothing to see here.
Ko-No!!!!! :/
Kona renamed the stinky to the operator. It was all over from there
Best answer to the question "who's Van Doren?" would be this episode of Nine Club czcams.com/video/RHAi4uC2pGk/video.htmlsi=JDwZv2OshaGjJ01D
I LOVE KONA, THEY ROCK😀
Kona didn't have enough money to grown and develop new products so they sold out instead of scaling down. Big mistake...
@@PlaywholedayI think that main problem with Kona is that they didnt show nothing interesting for last few years and their prices were really high for what they are offering.
Kona just doesn't understand the process.
Kent Outdoors bought a bike company without knowing what to do with it. 2 years later, in the face of, and on condition of, a $100 million investment, they were encouraged to go back to focusing on what they know how to do, which is water sports....and divest of their bicycle company (Kona).
Kona was a victim. And so are we.
Looks like that is all change today though! Looks like Kona will be back on it's feet under the original owners soon 👍
@@gmbntech This is good news indeed; I was happy to see that this morning.
Number 1 🎉

Much too wordy guys. A bit pedantic the way you draw things out
