    After reading all of the stories about Wesley Snipes behind the scenes on Blade 3, and after actually seeing the movie, I say he was right to be a dick. They were making a lame movie filled with bad decisions and then blowing off all of his suggestions, which as it turns out, were some of the best parts of the first two films. I would have stayed in my trailer too.

    "Some motherfuckers always trying to ice skate uphill" is actually a good one-liner, tbh. The movies definitely have their flaws, but Snipes' and Kris Kristofferson's performances are what really make the films. I always thought the immolation effect was the best vampire death effect, similar to how vampires turned to dust in Buffy.

    For all the crap that was Blade Trinity, there was one good thing that came out of it. It gave the inspiriation to Ryan Reynolds to do Deadpool. I read one time that in preparing to do his role in Blade Trinity he went to the director and said "how do want me to portray this character?" The director handed him a couple of Deadpool comics and said "be like him." He read them and was like "this is the role I was born to play."

    BLADE was an important milestone in the history of comic-book movies. It did its best to be serious and realistic at a time when all the comics movies (BATMAN & ROBIN, SPAWN, THE MASK) were getting really cartoonish. It also had a very contemporary look, instead of being vaguely "retro" like a lot of those earlier movies were. (By the way, I'm still waiting for the Honest Trailers version of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER - I WAS A TEENAGE BLADE.)

    Say what you like about Blade. It's still one of the best action franchises and it made vampires believable. Snipes was the real badass hero. And this was years before the Black Panther. I've always thought it was stupid that movies are made to fit a certain rating. No, most movies don't need to be R-rated. But some do. And when directors scale down the thing that make a character or setting popular to let minors watch it, it often ruins the movie. Marvel doesn't have that many explicit characters and it's current MCU has mostly PG heroes like Cap, Spiderman and Ant-man. But Wolverine should've had a R-rated movie much earlier. And Deadpool, Blade and the Punisher should stay rated R. Just don't make movies R because Deadpool did it, we don't need a R-rated Lion King or something like that.

    It's especially interesting because when Snipes originally approached Marvel it was to make a Black Panther movie. However Stan Lee introduced Snipes to Blade and well honestly Snipes was a far better fit for Blade than he would have been for Black Panther. Snipes is a little too one linery (I know it's not a real word) to be Black Panther.

      To be honest, a Black Panther movie would have been terrible back then when superhero films had neither the budget nor the technological advancement needed to make them look as good as they should. Blade works well for it's time because he's primarily a street level hero who doesn't need a lot high-tech looking equipment, a fact that also helps him blend better with the crowd.

    "Black" was a poor word choice by the media imo because the African diaspora is worldwide, and in the U.S. saying black is synonymous with "African-American" but is not the same as saying Egyptian-American, Nigerian-American, Ethiopian-American, etc., which in essence are all African-American.

    Now that Marvel/Disney has the Blade movie rights back, and Disney has bought Fox, and Fox owns Deadpool movie rights, we could have a Blade/Deadpool movie. But first I hope they reboot the movie with the original origins of Blade - where he's actually born in Soho, London, in 1922. Why? Because then he would've been a teen during WWII. In Marvel Comics it's established that Hitler had vampires working for him. So Captain America and the Howling Commandos fought Nazi vampires. Therefore we could have flashback scenes where a teenage Blade fights Nazi vampires alongside Captain America and the Howling Commandos.

    Wait so there was a Black Super Hero movie BEFORE Black Panther? So Im not just imagining Blade, Steel, Blankman, Meteor Man, Hancock, Static Shock, Cyborg and Im sure others?

    • @dren5810
      @dren5810 Před 6 lety +34

      Tim Slack there was no cyborg nor static shock movie. Blankman was more of a comedy but Hancock was pretty good. The first two blade films are in my top favorites though! I think what people mean with uplifting black panther is that it is the first marvel movie with a majority black cast with a serious budget behind it and proper marketing. It's also not being sold as just a black film but a superhero movie that just so happens to tell the story of a fictional technologically advanced culture. Blade will always be important to me but I totally get the impact black panther will have on generations to come who don't even know who blade is and may never know him, but they will know black panther.
