All jokes aside, Roger Deakins did an incredible job with the cinematography. I mean look at it , every scene in the movie can be a decent wallpaper.
A well deserved Oscar indeed!
Facts
I didn't like this movie, but I have to agree with that!
"Deakins got snubbed so many times, you'd think he'd never win an Oscar until 2049."
The cinematography was beautiful and stunning
"Yeah... punch that robot, we ill figure out later if it has a soul."
- that line got me.
Are you a robot?
Same lol
I love how Gossling portrays every emotion he needs with single expression.
In short, he doesn’t convey any emotion other than a violent angst. I remember when he used to act. It was pretty good.
He has the full range of needed emotions for the deep parts he inhabits: from 1.... to 1 again.
No. Seriously. I DO actually think he is a subtle and talented actor, and I have seen him step outside this range. He's just.... so damn good at not seeming to emote.
This point points more to the human brain's ability to understand and communicate emotions and intentions than to anything Ryan Gosling is doing (better than other actors would have done)
You know how he feel without showing so much of expressions cause it's very subtle and I think it gives realistic touch!
David C. He does deeper roles that require him to do more than he used to. I don’t see how you think he’s a bad actor just because he’s not boisterous
*puts nerd glasses on* umm actually, replicants aren’t robots, they’re synthetic humans. They have no mechanical or electrical parts
Thank you! I was looking for someone else to point this out!
@it just doesn't matter Technically correct. The best kind of correct! And most annoying.
Seriously, thank you for saying it!
I just wanna know why their eyes glow
Oh thanks. I always thought they were actual robots.
I'm sorry but "Many nights I dream of cheese." is the greatest out of context line ever!
I believe it's a reference to Philip K. Dick's 'do androids dream of electric sheep'.
Gappy Naddy what did he mean by that ? many nights I dream of cheese ?
He's quoting Ben Gunn from Treasure Island (Robert Louis Stevenson)
I'm so glad that idk what y'all are talking about.
Perfect Dark reference?
>Female characters keep dying
"It's too bad she won't live. But then again, who does?"
To be fair. the movie ends with Kay dying after realizing the Memory Fabrication woman was the real replicant kid all along.

@@TheJadedJames I've watched this movie like ten times and analyzed it to death and never realized he died at the end. I'm... very embarrassed.
But the daughter lived...the daughter she was so important her I was the first scene.

"GOD DAMMIT"
BR 2049. Overachieving on so many levels, and somehow so underrated.
I loved it so much, I didn’t realize it was box office failure lol
@@nekonari22 It was not a failure. Just not a big hit. Sadly
It was too slow and thoughtful in a world where JJ Abrams is King
@@RecklessFables Too hard to digest for the average TikTok/Facebook/Twitter user.

Ashley Honest trailers for Westworld please!
While the hosts in WW are actually robots, the replicants in BR are grown, making them basically human, not robots.
@@chriswoj3 But we kill humans no matter if they have souls or not...

This was one of the most visually-stunning films I've ever seen...and having Ana de Armas in it certainly didn't hurt.
Eman Tabrizi And it’s a good thing, too. That was the only thing keeping me from zoning out half the time.
Yeah a bleak orange dustbowl, an empty old building, an antiseptic featureless office, and a junkyard. Visually stunning.
@@jjryan1352 You clearly know nothing about cinematography. Roger Deakins's work in this film made BR2049 one of the most visually arresting films of the past decade
And musically stunning too. God, that soundtrack still gives me goosebumps.
Eman Tabrizi no
"Who'd you bring"
"Nobody"
That got a genuine belly laugh out of me
I absolutely loved this movie, I just can't understand why other people didn't even watch it.
when it came out, I really wanted to watch it in theatres but there was only a single show after a week and it was really late during the night time. But I got to watch it on amazon/netflix multiple times. This one of the few movies which let's you enjoy it whether it's your first time watching it or not.
I avoided watching it for years because I was afraid it was going to ruin the first film in some way. Eventually I caught it on TV one night and loved it.
found it unwatchable...kept dozing off...
I’m trying to watch this
Haven't cried so hard at a movie in years.

BTTF2: 2015 flying cars
Blade Runner: 2019 flying cars
2020....
Flying cars were actually to the production stage. But then 912 pointed out how every flying object was potentially a a terrorists wet dream...
Of course it was Honda that had the flying cat and later that decade would has a series of critically defective parts.... Stuck accelerator... Of a flying car? How does that end well? LoLz
Reality is often disappointing, isn't it?
We spend all science to lcd tvs and cellphones
We kind of sort of have flying cars today. The problem with many of these movies they ignore the laws of physics, or at least our current understanding of them. It's difficult to get that amount of energy to move without rockets, jet engines, or propellers, all three of which require a sizeable engine and fuel. I can't see it happening by 2049.
Since nobody else seems to care anymore, I'm just going to point out where our lil Alan Raptor is at in every Honest Trailer:
4:12 - far left side of the screen, hiding in the dark glass case.
Glad to see his return though 👍
I didn’t realize they were still doing that. Thanks for pointing it out.
Good catch!
We should get a trailer of David Lynch's DUNE before the remake comes out
I second this.
"remake"
It's a reimagining, not a remake. i.e. we all hope he doesn't mess it up like Lynch did.

Owen how was that funny? But anyways comedy is subjective
In all seriousness, lets be honest people, this movie was a masterpiece. Too bad it got buried beneath shallow blockbusters in the box office...
I thought October was just a bad month for movies? Wasn't it top of the box office for a while?
I think so too, it does live up to the original one. And the best thing is, it doesn't try to copy it, but it's a coherent continuation. I think this movie was awesome!
@@gusmackenzie4321 Yeah because nowadays would swallow happily any garbage movie Marvel puts out like Thor Ragnarok but don't care about storytelling and cinema art in general.
Does anyone even remember what movies they released in October that year? Neither do I.
I remember the theater I usually went to only showed it for 1 week, while Thor Ragnarok stayed for 3 months or so.
I think you’re definitely missing out on Chicken Little. It deserves a honest trailer
I went to Blade Runner 2049 opening weekend, damn it, and I brought friends! I did my part!!!
Same. Went away feeling like I just experienced art, only to realize 4 other people on the planet went to see it.
I went that sunday morning... Will always remember the family next to me with like 3 hyperactive kids.... Who wakes their kids up at 9am on a Sunday to see a 3 hour R rated movie??? Great film though.
I watched it on IMAX, and it was the best use of the format I've seen so far
Saw it once in IMAX, once in XD and 2 more times in a standard theater.
I really liked it and felt like it was true to the atmosphere of the first movie. Did any of you guys see the (animated) shorts that go in between the first Blade Runner and 2049? Those were pretty good too. Ties it all together.
"Are these guys laundering money for the cartels or something"? Good question.
If they did i wont snitch cause these movies are amazing lol

That's what I was thinking
"And My Little Pony: Hardship is Tragic."
Good one.
That made me laugh harder than anything in a good while.
Coincidentally, The MLP movie and BR2049 are released on the same day.
Without the ponies or friendship.
“Are these guys laundering money for the cartel or something?” Now that sounds like a good movie
I saw this in theaters 3 times. One of the only times I've done that. I was so worried it wouldn't live up to the original, but after the first ten minutes I became so excited when I realized those fears were ungrounded
5 times for me. Also the only movie.
Thinking back to the last five movies he's done (BR 2049, Arrival, Sicario, Enemy, and Prisoners) it's no wonder they keep giving him chances despite box office performances. Those are all top tier films in different genres from dramas to sci fi to psychological thrillers
“Are these guys laundering money from the cartels or something?!”
Ironic considering Villenueve also directed Sicario.
Coincidence is not irony
He got some contacts from that movie
That’s not irony. That’s a coincidence.
First sicario was good. Second not so much (I don't know if he directed it, just a statement)

One of the best sequels ever made. It didn’t treat the audience like dummies - it actually made you engage your brain. One of the best modern films made - compare it to recent Netflix, Amazon or Miramax stuff - and it’s in another league.
It was beautiful but left me sad. The original had hope at the end and this one didn't. I still prefer the original. They also never did explain the bees.

Never noticed the slow delivery in the dialogue before 😂
I noticed, even in Villenevue's previous movies like Sicario and Arrival it was noticeable.
It's in every Denis Villeneuve movie, something like a trademark.
I never thought it was his trademark. I always assume it was done to preserve the vibe of the original film, which was also slow (dialogue & pace).

The original bombed too and was even considered a bad film in the 80s. The VCR release is what gave it it's cult following.

There’s not a single android or robot in Blade Runner. Replicants are “bioengineered humans”. Genetically modified and lab grown humans. That’s why they can find Rachel’s skeleton. Why is that so hard to understand? It’s not like anyone read “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep” to get confused by the movies changing that...
R-reading?! What kind of barbaric ritual you are performing!
OK jokes aside, I'm curious how many people did read that book. More people should read it.
Technically a bioengineered lab grown human would be considered an android. Star Wars kind of co-opted the word "droid" (which is why Ridley Scott decided to call them replicants instead of androids like the original story), but the traditional definition of android is a robot or synthetic organism created to resemble a human.
If you make a computer processor out of human neurons, will it be human?
why do people use sentences instead of nicknames? I think you’ll need to make another movie to answer that
In the original film the details of what a replicant are not really important. It's just an allegory for finite human life. Yes if they had metal you wouldn't need a VK test, just a metal detector. Also how can you explain their superhuman abilities?
This movie is to watch in theater, the artistic direction and photography are amazing
Best movie out that year. I saw it twice....or was it thrice.
I saw it twice at an IMAX and was by far the best cinema experience of the last decade. The first base line test scene felt like my mind was being slowly prised apart.

"Laundering money for the cartel" may be the funniest, and scariest line uttered concerning movies. I saw the movie and actually liked it. But I swear I didn't even know when it was released. I streamed it after surfing the net for something to watch. I saw the original in the theater and own the original and the Directors cut and I really, really didn't know this was released.
Best performance of Ryan Gosling thanks to the fact that he’s wooden and blank expressions match the character. Decent subtlety
2:37-2:43 conveniently forgets about The Nice Guys
