At this point, y'all might want to start considering the distinct possibility of the Mariners being sellers at the deadline.
They aren’t gonna now 49-41 and have an easy schedule to finish the 1st half. They got Luis Castillo before the trade deadline the year we made the playoffs. I think they get another big name
I understand that it might not be great for the Ms against Baltimore but Logan vs Burnes could be CINEMA from a purely pitching perspective (and I'm sure Pitching Ninja is salivating already lol).
It's not Gilbert versus Burnes.
It's Gilbert versus Baltimore's lineup.
It's Burnes versus Seattle's lineup.
Gilbert versus Baltimore's lineup = competitive baseball.
Burnes versus Seattle's lineup = Burnes career high in strikeouts and possible no hitter.
That's a microcosm of why the Mariners aren't going anywhere but the couch after September 30th.
No way Jose are the Mariners interested in Bellinger and Happ. I can give anyone millions of reasons why. As in Bellinger being paid 27.5 mill this year and 27.5 next year. Happ being paid
20 mill this year and 20 mill next year. Way way outside the Mariners payroll budget. As 3 month rentals? The Cubs would probably be looking for several top prospects. Ixnay on that.
Think the Mariners have it bad? The Cubs team payroll is 214 mill and Milwaukee's is 104 mill. Currently the Cubs are 11 games behind the Brewers. Plus the Cubs hired away from the Brewers manager Craig Counsel and are paying him 40 mill for 5 years. Now that's a shipwreck.
Tampa's Paredes and Arozarena would be nice fits. Right handed hitting third baseman and outfielder is just what the doctor ordered and at Mariner affordable contracts.
The most likely trade is the one that we know for sure there are two teams both interested. The White Sox have started to scout the Mariners farm system. Think Robert Jr. and Michael Kopech. Both are Mariner contract friendly. Robert Jr. this year 12.5 mill, 15 mill next year. Kopech 3 mill this year.
Kopech throws high 90's low 100's. He's inconsistent. One outing he's Aroldis Chapman blowing the hitters away. The next outing
batters hit bombs off him. The Sox will likely seek 2 of the Mariners top 5 prospects plus a low level minors player with some potential.

Sellers y the end of July, but what are the chances the inept offensive will end up dividing the team? Pitchers knowing they have no margin for error. With each Runner in Scoring Position left in scoring position increasing the level of frustration we all are feeling.
