Star Wars: Inside the Venator Star Destroyer

  • The Venator-class Star Destroyer makes its first theatrical appearance in Revenge of the Sith during the opening Battle of Coruscant.
    Within the Star Wars setting, these ships are regarded as the most powerful capital ships of the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars, serving double duty as battleships and starfighter carriers
    The Venator-class Star Destroyer, also known as a Republic attack cruiser or Jedi Cruiser, was a line of wedge-shaped Star Destroyers in service with the Galactic Republic Navy during the Clone Wars.
    The backbone of the Galactic Republic's naval forces, the Venator was a versatile capital ship capable of serving as a troop carrier, a cargo transport, and a warship for ship-to-ship combat.
    Often utilized as flagships by the Jedi Generals of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Venator-class was closely associated with the Jedi Order as a result. Venators served in several major engagements of the Clone Wars.
    Ultimately, though, the Venator-class was decommissioned and replaced by the Imperial-class Star Destroyer, a larger warship that was modeled on its Republic predecessor. #starwars

    The Venetor class also supported an “artillery deck” on both port and starboard sides. It was pretty much heavy artillery cannons that were used as casemates. Although, they were only ever useful during broadside engagements at close range, mostly because they had to be aimed manually by a gunner.

      And the 'ten light minutes' range, by the way, presumably refers to large, hardly mobile targets, also, for the turbolasers. Like whole planets or asteroids, say, with easily predictable paths.
      As for weapon numbers, some ships will vary. It's implied the Rebels often got cast off Nebulon-B frigates, for example, that may have lacked some guns. Rogue One even adds more turrets to the ones seen there.
      I assume main batteries/turrets also do have SOME computer aim assist, too.

    • @hetzer5926
      @hetzer5926 Před 2 lety

      @@chrissonofpear1384, most likely they do have some sort of computer assistance. But for the most part, ships in Star Wars seem to almost exclusively fight at ranges where you can visually see the target. Occasionally fleets will engage at long distance but due to the nature of turbo lasers (essentially just plasma hurtling through space) they eventually loose thermal heat, and mass, which taking shields into consideration the shot would to little to no damage. So really their going to be engaging targets within probably a couple thousand kilometers at the most.

      @@mbhaxr6367 Nope, it was the other way around. The earliest known capital ships that were similar to the star destroyer concept were the Interdictor-class cruiser and the Centurion-class battlecruiser used by the Republic in the Mandalorian Wars. The reason why these ships are more well known as Sith ships is because when Revan and Malak turned against the Republic, they took their fleets with them and created thousands of these ships at the Star Forge. After Revan's and Malak's deaths, these ships continued to be used by the Sith and the Republic simultaneously for a while. The Sith developed this concept further and used it until at least a couple of centuries later (Harrower-class for example), while the Republic dropped this design and forgot about it until they rediscovered it when Kuat Drive Yards created the Mandator-class Dreadnought in 42 BBY. At first, the Mandator was underpowered due to the Rusaan regulations, and it was only used by a couple of wealthy sector fleets, but when the Clone Wars were about to start, the Republic recognized the value of this concept and created smaller but more efficient ships similar to the Mandator and called them star destroyers. To the Republic loyalists and later to the Empire, star destroyers symbolized their ancient heritage and human high culture, while to Palpatine, they symbolized his de facto Sith Empire.

      @papapalps2415 Před 3 lety +15

      Theortical range and practical range are 2 very different things and concepts. For example, did you know that most military weaponry in service IRL actually has an effective range of many hundreds of meters? The problem is, naturally, the human factor. Most infantry engagements in the modern day don't take place anywhere close to that far, simply because of the inherent limitations of how far a human being can shoot with their Mark 1 Eyeball and natural reflexes to an accurate level. Same principle applies to other places as well, including SW. Theres nothing actually theoretically stopping a Venator (or whatever else) from shooting at something several light minutes away, or Christ, a solar system, a sector, a galaxy away, bar the actual dissipation rate of the turbolaser. Whether it will actually do so accurately enough to hit their target is another matter entirely. A stationary or very predictable target like a space station or planet would be very easy to hit from basically ANY range, but an even slightly mobile target is exponentially harder.

I'd like to see a layout or sectional cutaway on any & all Pub ships showing where they housed & fed all the 1000's of crew they carried: officer quarters, officer mess and clone barracks and clone mess (as I'm sure the human officers didn't want to eat with the clones), the medical bay, rec rooms with holo vid for sports & tables for playing games and so on near the barracks probably on more then one deck. Also they'd have pretty extensive gym facilities for all those clones. (newer Navy carriers have 3) Plus where are the showers & heads? (heads = toilets) Plus like a Navy air carrier, they'd also have a barber, a mini PX or BX (store for personal items & snacks) and other amenities. Plus every infantry clone had their own foot locker for their gear & personal items. (Seen in barracks on numerous clone wars episodes.) Where did the infantry keep their stuff?

    is there any way to get a 3d model cross section venator or must i eyeball it, im looking to create a 1:1 (as close as possible) replica in satisfactory the game, wanted to make a full interior aswell but its hard to get a sense of the general structure under the hull, i see this was based on the cross section book judging by the limited and specific cross section views, unfortunately im at the same point i cant seem to get my head around how to go about it, i dont really want to make it up as i go but the limited venator info out there is probably going to force me to have to make up alot of the inbetweens, the lego clone wars game gives a very downscaled perspective of the inside walkways etc but i know the lego game version is just nowhere near accurate enough to be scalable, thank you for this video though, the 180 degree view under the bridge especially helps in how i should layout the internal structure

    4:15 onwards gives a real sense of scale, zooming in to realise the tiny speck in front of the foreward-most LAAT is an Eta-2, which gives a decent size comparison for an individual humanoid; zooming back out with that in mind really shows you how big these proto-Star Destroyers were, arguably better than even Fallen Order, whose Venator interior mission is spread out over broken-off segments and busted-open areas with the whole thing on it's side, ruining the experience somewhat, whereas in this video you can easily imagine the ship fitting in the number of fighter / bomber / transports mentioned in the video, though I still same the number of crew on wookieepedia should have a zero knocked off the end, let alone troop compliment, or else the onboard barracks must be stuffed in all the space between reactor and control towers.

    • @topgun1457

      no Sidious only got rid of them to purge all things related to Jedi as the venator was called the Jedi cruisers by the galaxy so he got rid of them they were very good ships and if empire kept them the rebellion would most likely had problems as the venator was very good against star fighters and would have made good star fighter defense cruisers at the least

    • @EmeraldForestCat
      @EmeraldForestCat Před 2 lety

      @@topgun1457 If Venator was created for space battles, then Imperial is a tool for control over the conquered worlds. He is big, horrendous and can transport almost 4 times more infantry. Of course the air group from Imperial is much smaller, but that is, the causes. If the republic immediately received a huge number of trained clones of pilots and could quickly fill losses, the empire had to train their soldiers from scratch, which is difficult, expensive and not very effective. The same rebels completely quietly exchanged one of their fighter into two or three imperial. Therefore, aircraft carriers like Venator were practically useless for the Empire. However, even this is not a reason to write off thousands of star destroyers in the scrap. But once this is part of the canon, then for such actions there should be an important reason. And the technical disadvantages in combination with low quality assembly look much more convincingly than a certain connection with the Jedi about which almost no one remembered in Episode IV.
