    I have the 10mm Voigtlander. Definitely for more surreal photos or really challenging architecture (fantastic for cathedral ceilings). Can be good fun.

      You picked the right word..fun. I had (when I had Canon systems) a 8mm fisheye. Was it a practical lens, no. But it was fun and experimental which made it a luxury to have but photography should be enjoyable.

    I keep my Voigtländer 10mm always in the camera bag. It's fun to use, has a native FF E-mount and is small.

    Hyper wide lenses are great for making vanishing point perspective landscapes. it's a really a narrow use case but if you put the horizon in the center of the frame all the lines in the shot lead toward the center seemingly disappearing into the far distance.

    On a canon ii has contacts mean the manual focus triangles work, its great it gives you an edge, there are profiles in dxo for it

    Christopher, I'm trying to make a decision between this Irix 11mm lens or the Rokinon 14mm FE AF for my Sony full frame system. I would be using this for my real estate photo work. I love the idea of the super wide 11mm of the Irix (using the Sigma MC-11 on my Sony camera) but the Rokinon keeps pulling me back with it's autofocus. Any thoughts?

    FYI minimum focus distance is measured from the sensor (circle with line through it on top of you camera) not the front lens element.

      Yeah i realized that my estimation was off once I was editing the video. Woops.

    The Irix lenses are very good. I tested out the 15 and 11myself. I do not like using an adapter like that sadly. Needs a FE mount.

    Hello. I use it for architecture photography, specially when there isn't enough space when i use a regular 16-35. With 11mm for decorative ceiling still almost isnt enough when the height is 4m~5m. Still almost glued to the floor.
    Glad to see your video I use Canon, but considering switching to Sony. Glad to see Mc-11 works well. Regarding distortion, Irix has a profile to Lightroom you can now import, removing the need for "manual" compensation. Thank you

    great review! would be interested in how it does for astro like you said. worth comparing to the samyang 14mm if you get the chance!

  • @GhostHuntingInSouthCarolina

    How do you think it would do for tight shots in a film- like some of our previous shots?

    • @ChristopherBurress
      @ChristopherBurress  Před 5 lety +1

      It's significantly wider than the 15mm we used for the closet shot the other week. You would really need a specific use for this lens to utilize how wide it is.

  • @DraculaNosferatu123
    @DraculaNosferatu123 Před 5 lety

    There are lenses for E mount like the Laowa 10-18mm f/1.5-5.6 and also the Voigtländer 10mm f/5.6

    Have you applied Irix's Lens Profile for Lightroom? - it's available for download on its website. I use it for architectural phography. It's a very specialized lens so not for everybody. Again you have the benefit of cropping it later. Alternatively, you can use in as a 16.5mm lens in APC mode.

    Hi ... can you help me, I have a 15mm F / 2.4 Blackstone Lens for Nikon and I need an adapter to use it on the sony A7. Thank you very much already.

    • @ChristopherBurress
      @ChristopherBurress  Před 3 lety

      You can use any smart adapter if you just need aperture control. You only need to worry about getting an expensive adapter if you need autofocus. Which I don't think the Blackstone lens has anyways.

    i have sony a6500 and want to bought irix 15mm f2.4 and speedbooster viltrox canon to sony. but I was confused for fear that it would not work completely. can u help answer pls?

    • @ChristopherBurress
      @ChristopherBurress  Před 3 lety +1

      There is no reason it wouldn't work. Image quality may suffer because the adapters do have a harder time with wider lense. You may be okay at 15mm however.

    Tooo wide, i had samyang 14mm and couldnt handle it, everything is stretched and distorted, objects far from lens will become so stretched out and tiny that you cant see anything meaningful sometimes

    • @jozosaravanja1626
      @jozosaravanja1626 Před 5 lety

      Look at Laowa 15mm or 12mm I think they have very little or zero distortion.

    • @philindeblanc
      @philindeblanc Před 5 lety

      If you used the 14mm and that is a issue, jump to 16 or 24mm. But you should reevaluate your usage of it. I find some interiors need to get pushed, like a narrow room that I need things in one frame. It really depends on use. For 11mm, I can see the use for wide landscape images to have a nice foreground with a sense of space that includes a layer of distant background. Or exterior architecture for building showing background. Its a thin slice for what the lens can look good doing...Yet the close focus can add to options.

  • @Noealz

    Actually I shoot with a fish eye sometimes, if you shoot it perfectly level it comes off looking like a wide angle =p

    If you just check the depth of field scale once you pass f4 everything from the front of your shoes to Infinity's in focus. That's why you're not seeing any change in Sharpness between the f stops. Also I don't understand why you compare the size and weight of this lens to the sigma 16 - it's a crop sensor lens. Are you testing this on your Sony in full frame or super 35 mode? Some of the other comments here touting the sigma 10 to 20 mil Zoom obviously don't understand...

    • @ChristopherBurress
      @ChristopherBurress  Před 5 lety

      It's just a popular lens that i had on hand. Comparing it to another obscure or very expensive lens wouldn't help many people out because they probably aren't familiar with those either. The 10-18mm and the sigma 16mm are popular and familiar to many people, so it's a good reference.

      I would imagine that something much faster at the expense of field of view would be a better choice.
