Cool video
Pffwhatsup matt đHave you tried using the Helios 44-2 lens? Can you please make a review đ
Of course. Great stuff. Still on the canon side of the force. Mainly because of lenses.
I think I spotted a weird colour graded mistake at 10:52 đ
â€ïžđđđđâš
WHAT!? I've had this lens for years and never used it! I gotta try this.
My career is complete I have shown potato jet something he didnât know about camera gear â
So that mean that the 12mm is 12mm on a full frame right? I know probably stupid question but just making sure Iâm not tripping
@@BryanElliott_ Yes, 12mm FF. The focal length is a property of the lens and never changes, but the Field of view does. 12mm on FF has a significantly wider field of view compared to 12mm on APS-C.
12mm on FF = 122° FoV
12mm on APS-C = 99° Fov
You get the 122° with Maati's setup in the video.
Ok that was Chris Brockhurst . He mentioned about Matti
@@BryanElliott_ ya
I don't know whether it's just me, but I đđLOVEđđ the look of a wide lens like this for CZcams content, it just feels more personal and less like a person is trying to run a business. Obviously all CZcamsrs are running a business, but when CZcamsrs treat it only like business, that's when you lose the magic of CZcams! That's just my 2 cents anyway, great video! đ„đ„
THAT OPENING IS SOOOOO SICK. Iâve actually looked at it about 50 times looking for HOW THE LENS GOT BEHIND THE BOX. MattiâŠ..you are the man sirđ
Yep, I used the 10-18 on my a7riii as my wide angle lens on a cross country motorcycle trip because it's perfectly compacted for something like a motorcycle trip! I took it to Arches National Park, Yosemite National Park, Golden Gate Bridge, and Highway 101 and it preformed perfect! I posted all of the images to a Sony Alpha subreddit and no one believed me it was the 10-18 apsc lens I used haha. I took that as a compliment. đ So yeah the 10-18 is a nice little hidden gem. I'll never sell mine. Though I do own th 14mm GM prime now and that thing is also small and a BEAST for astro and landscapes but that's a massive price difference.
This has honestly helped me so much. I upgraded to the Sony a7iv from my a6300 yesterday and was going to sell all my lenses but this has made me realise I donât need to as soon as I thought. Thanks matti
I just upgraded my a6400 to a Sony A7IV, and I love that this lens works so well for FF. Never getting rid of this gem.
Do you have the 16-50 mm? Do you think it works with full frame?
Seems like a great option! Stick this on any other Sony full-frame in crop mode and you're still getting a really useful 15-27mm focal range for vlogging (a Casey Neistat classic). Also, nice to see there appears to be far less distortion that the Canon equivalent, along with the fixed aperture, for not a lot more money!
Super 35mm is what most film makers use and have used. So, using this body in crop mode, is very normal.
I got one of these 10-18 lenses back in 2017 to use it with my Sony a6000. I used to get great landscape photos. Just the distortion was a bit more noticeable in the edges. The solution was to use Lightroom lens profile correction. Man your video made me want to go out and take more photos with it.
I haven't been watching a lot of youtube lately so in the first 30 seconds here, seeing your kids... man they've grown up so much! It'll be so cool to have all this footage of them mixed into your videos as you guys all get older. Great video as always Matti, I'm happy to be back!
I am using this 10-18 for years on my A7 bodies and one thing that you missed for it - the rear plastic hood is easy to remove and than you can use it from 12mm to 18mm on the whole sensor for stills, not only 16:9 video or active stab 1.2x crop. And now the price will go up :D
oh, I'd like to know how do you get that rear plastic hood removed?
This is super interesting going to have to look for a video on this !
@@ccow11 just 3 screws inside the bayonet. Unscrew them and the black plastic falls down. Keep it somewhere for later if you want to sell the lens :)
@@SimeonKolev awesome! Any obvious downsides? Maybe it's a dust shield or something, I'm going pop mine open and have a look / before after photo
@@ccow11 it is actually a hood to reduce reflections between the rear lens and the sensor. If you are lucky you can see sometimes reflection of the electronics inside the lens in the frame when you are shooting against the sun, but who is shooting all the time with the sun in the middle of the frame :). Check out the Photography Wars videos in my channel, they were shot with this lens.
I do the same thing on my R6 with the old school Tokina 11-16mm 2.8. The older Tokina lenses are built on the earlier versions of EF so they actually work pretty well with full frame and do not force the mirrorless cameras into crop mode. Very cool to see another crop lens working on a full frame camera!
Had this combo for the first half last year! Loved it, especially when I was vlogging out in LA and one of its helicopter rooftops. Ended up selling it for the Tamron 17-28 as it was just more viable for vlogging and client shoots!
Itâs definitely a viable option but I think Iâd still prefer my Rokinon 18mm 2.8.
Itâs sharper, faster, smaller, lighter, and just $280. The only thing itâs missing is stabilization but at least I can stabilize in catalyst with my a7c.
When I need a walk around travel zoom it pairs great with my Tamron 28-200.
I have to agree on the rokinon. I have the Sony 16-35gm and I still prefer to use my rokinon most of the time. So light and if I break it I'm not heart broken. I can't believe how good it is especially for the price. Matti I think you should give it a test! "What's the best vlogging lens for sony in 2022" video coming soon lol.
@@DJILLEE Matti absolutely needs to give it a try. Another selling point is how well it works with Astro photography đ
Hey Matti! Long time viewer but first time commenter here! I love this wide angle look with the 10-18 on a full frame body. This was really good info to know as I am currently a Sony APS-C shooter, but switching to full frame very soon. There is another wide angle APS-C lens that is even better than the 10-18 imo. The Tamron 11-20 is sharper and opens up to f2.8 for better low light and more dof. The only downside is that it has no stabilization. I have no idea if this lens works on full frame or not but i thought that I would mention it since the 10-18 only opens up to f4. Anyways great video as always Matti!
Thanks as always, Matti! I actually use the APSC Tamron 11-20 f2.8 in full frame mode on my a7IV. Around 12-13mm, it's quite usable in full frame mode, and it's super wide and 2.8. It's just not OSS, but that's not a big deal when you're that wide. I actually chose the APSC version instead of the full frame Tamron 17-28 so I could use it with 4k60 on the a7IV. So basically, I can do 4k60 or 4k24/30 in APSC mode with a full frame equivalent of 16.5-30, and I can do 12-13mm full frame in 4k24/30. It's the best of both worlds!
I have the 17-28 Tamron, for my A7C⊠my A74 arrives today & you gave me a great idea, thx!!!
Hey man, I have the A7IV too. Is the 11-20 usable at 12mm on full frame without any modifications? Do you maybe have anywhere I could see some pics?
@@bhargavsharma9241 did you find an answer to this question about 11-20? Been considering to get it for my Sony a7iv
@@ShadesOfTech nope far as I know the 10-18 is still the only lens with that specific feature.
Question: Would the Tamrom 11-20mm 1.8 work the same? Because with that one you get the lower aperture, or will this only work this well for the Sony? Anyone know?
I picked one of these up last year used at B&H for $400 and LOVE it on my ZV-E10. I was actually worried about not having an upgrade path once I spring for a FF body. Thanks for the helpful information!
In my opinion the 20mm F1.8 is a better vlogging lens for the same price. Itâs small, cheap, sharp, wide enough for vlogging and amazing low light with the a7siii
Used the 20mm for about a year for vlogging and I LOVEDDDD it!!!
Oh man I love that lens.. but itâs not good with walking around with.. everything.. itâs perfect. 20mm is just too tight on da face pimp! đ
Yes!!! Go with this lens. Sharp, fast, and compact. You really can't beat this lens.
My favorite in the bag
I love stuff like this. Finding sleeper items for a deal. Sure, there are some limitations, but for the right person, it works really well.
I use this set up all the time. It's especially handy for topdown rigs because it's so light
That intro was SMOOTH. I've watched it frame by frame, backwards and forward, and I honestly can't tell if it was sleight of hand, a perfect match cut, or someone under the table. However it was accomplished, it was perfect.
That seamless intro with the box is amazing! Definitely a viable option for an awesome vlogging lens. Great video!
Thanks for sharing this Matti..loved your vlogs by the way
I actually think the 20mm f1.8 is a more useful/underrated lens for Sony glass. Wide enough for vlogging, fast with good shallow depth of field, can put it in APS-C mode and get closer to a 33mm ishhhh length⊠itâs a beauty of a lens for around the same price
idk i have the 20mm and it's not really wide enough for vlogging unless you don't take vlogging super serious, or like 75% head in your shot.
@@hellohogo if youâre taking vlogging seriously than youâre vlogging wrong hahaha. I have used it on a full frame camera and itâs 100% wide enough for vlogging, and has so many more purposes than just vlogging.
shhhh he has to make new content lol
You can get Samyang 14/2.8 for the same price as Sony 10-18 and Samyang is a lot better almost in every way. Another option is a tiny Sony 11/1.8, which can be cropped 1.33x on FF resulting in 14.7mm f/2.4 equivalent.
can somebody assist me how to actually see the result of apsc-mode. i already switch it on but when i play back its playing on standard lens focal legth
So what shutter speed would you recommend for 1fps S&Q mode on Sony? That sounds like heave ND filter I need to shoot outside timelapse
As a complete amateur I have the 10-18 on a canon 750d I use it for vlogging but what would be the best settings to use it on? Auto? Manual etc
Iâm so tempted to get this right now⊠looks way more compact than the 12-24 G lens Iâm using!
I have been doing this since the summer when you first mentioned this!! Super crazy focal length and really fun for vlogging. I even used it at a wedding once at Top Golf to get some super cool shots of the grooms men before the ceremony. đđœ
Matti if you have the a7iv then you can go into crop mode and have a 15 to 25ish lens. Still wider than the 16 but not as long as the 35. Also, you get the 4.6k overspled 4k and the focal length does not change in 60p
Is it possible to correct distortion ? Thanks
Would this be a good setup for real estate video? I recently bought a zhiyun crane m3 to run with my ihpone 12 max pro. But in time i will like to upgrade to a higher end camera. Was hoping to run the Sony S7 3 or 4 But the normal FF lenses were so heavy but with this alternative im wondering how well it would work.
Hey, what about the new tamron 11-20mm f2.8? It misses the stabilisation but what about the f2.8? I currently own an a6400 and I'd be interested in one of these lenses.
Good Question, Can anybody answer this??
Love From India â€ïž
Great video. Been a minute since weâve seen the fpv! I used to own that lens and for some reason I couldnât get over how the image looked optically in terms of sharpness. You should test it against the Tamron 11-20 2.8. I hear its much lighter and sharper. Granted no OSS. Thought Iâd mention it since you probably can get access to it pretty easily through Sony etc.
Hi can I ask, does it decrease the megapixel? Or can I retain the megapixel without going to crop mode. Ty
Have you used the sigma 16 f1.4? With active stabilization you get almost no vignetting and looks super wide
Hey Matti, do you know a crop lens on a full frame sony camera will work with catalyst?
Matti the legendđ„đ„đ„đ„
Super cute kiddos! Iâm still on the canon side of the force, but itâs only because I have some many EF Canon lenses and I believe cameras work better without adapters. Have had conversion issues in the past using adapters and speed boosters. Great content! Love your videos.
do I miss something, how do you get 10mm crop lens to be 12mm on full frame? crop factor 1.5 right? Good lens anyway if own both crop and full frame body :)
If you don't mind zoom variation, and you like 12mm focal length, try Laowa's 12mm zero-d version.
This is awesome... sheeesh!!! đ„ Matti, The spirit thats in you this 2022.. May it not come outđđœđ°đȘ Great video!
So while shooting a timelapse on sony A7Siii with s&q mode with 1fps you mentioned slow shutter speed but could you please tell me the exact shutter speed that you used?
Great video. I love how you add your family to the video. Makes it more unique.
How much you rate this lens for landscape photography on a full frame camera A7iii?
Any recommendations for M4/3 vlogging lenses? :) I already have Sigma 16 mm 1.4
Oh man, it's a gorgeous video. And gorgeous intern, by the way đ
How would you compare the 10-18mm vs the Gm 14mm for filming?
Awesome video! Iâm wondering if the new Sony E 10-20mm F/4 PZ would also work like this
Does it work with another aps-c zoom lens? Like 16-70 f4 or 18-105 f4
How comparable is it to the FE 16-35mm f4? Because that is my current go to for anything
been using this for a few years and it's great! not as sharp as you'd like but is great for vlogging nonetheless
Breathing compensation will come in sony a7 siii in future firmware update or not ? Please reply đ.
Any chance you can do a video on how you organize your music library? All my tracks are just dumped into a single folder and it makes finding music so time consuming. Not sure if I should be organizing by genre, feeling/mood, BPM, etc
Are any of those lenses usable on full frame like 10-18?
Great Video! I've had this lens for a while now but havent used it recenty. Time to bring it out again!
Might have to replace my Rokinon 18mm f/2.8 with this for vlogging. I love the size of the Rokinon and this seems to be about the same, but would let me go wider.
Been using this lens for years on my FF Sony cams, love it!!!
Badass intro đ„
Will the tamron 11-20 or the new sigma 10-18 f2.8 also work on full frame??
FACTS. picked this up a couple months ago for my a6100 for $400 and it turns out to be the solution for 4k60p on the A7iv đđđ
I JUST got this for my channel!!! So glad to see you love it!
Good information here mate, will definitely keep it in mind!
I need to see if I can get my mits on the Tamron 11-20/2,8 and see if it works with that lens as well
As always, great video. Thanks!!
Is there a drop in video quality with the Sony 10-18?
Awesome vlog, man. this 10-18mm performs quite well, I see. Probably should try this out
Very cool Matti thanks for this. I used the Sony A7ii with the kit lens for while then switched over to the Canon M50; this makes me want to switch back to Sony. Love the video đ
Whatâs up Matti can you compare it to the Sony GM 14mm 1.8
I looked at getting this lens when I got a Sony APS-C body but in 2022 itâs really behind the competition optically. For APS-C, the Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 is great as is the new Samyang 12mm f2 (although it has a bit of CA wide openâŠ). On Full frame, the 20mm f1.8 and the Tamron 17-28 f2.8 outclass this lens. It does get points for being stabilized, but if youâre going to buy a new UWA lens in 2022, there are just so many better options, for both APS-C and FF.
used it for a while on my a7rIII, its basically a 12 ore 13 to 16mm lens on full frame, also depends a bit on your version.
great images but also quite a loot of distortion
Hey, this is a great idea but doesn't it automatically get converted to * 1.5 folds? like 10-18 becomes 15-27mm
The sigma 2.8 apsc lenses also have essentially full frame coverage. The 19mm 2.8 is a hidden gem for full frame Sony
now im curious, has anyone tried the tamron 11-20 2.8 on a full frame camera? They just released one sometime last year and seeing how this preforms im curious if that lens will give you a similar image especially when zoomed out to 11mm.
can it be used on A7C?
This was the first lens I ever bought for my A7sii and itâs been in my fleet for the past 6 years !
OMG thanks, it seems like a good option!
Awesome video as usual Matti! Love following you and your brother! Do you mind sharing where you purchased your MH logo wall light? That work is amazing!
Nice video!âïž
The 12mm is a really really cool look. I sold one of these lenses when I had an a6500. Just waiting for an a7iv body to arrive so might have to rekindle that relationship soon đ
Great video m8, Just bought one used for my new FX30 :D
great video, love the Sony Gear
Been working like this for Glad you came around! :)
Lens đ„ & vlog đ„ good to catch the classic vibes!
Finally, Matt Reviews this lens, So excited to see the power of Wide Lens in Low budget.đ
That lens looks awesome!!!
Wow this is amaizing. Thanx hapooja
Using it for the last 5 months daily and I really love the lens âïžđ
I definitely had to watch that intro slap about 10 timesđđđ. awesome work as usual Matti
Completely agree and have been saying this as soon as the A7iv came out with the apsc crop đ€đđ
Oh also assign a button to clear image zoom and you can get tighter when you need it
You just swirled my thoughts Matti! Bless you! :D
Matti your kids are beyond adorable. Love the vid too!
duuude i would definetaly buy this lens! looks so light weight!!!
Hahah Matti appreciate your love for wide lenses.. always so stoked when you find a new wide lens to use.. a âsecretâ sony lens I love that rarely anyone talks about is the 50/2.8 macro.. awesome for tight macro stuff but also a very usable 50MM for broll & portraits.. give it a rip!
Just got the 50mm 2.8 macro! It is a beast and I love the focal length compared to the 90mm macro
@@JamesDBuzzard very cool! I dig it
It honestly looked a lot better than I thought even more so the fact it is a f4! Def a nice pickup for people looking vlog. Could start with this and a Sony zve10 then jump into an a7c or a7 IV!
Definitely a perfect lens for vlogging đđŒ
Also, I use that lens on my APS-C camera for all my Zoom/Webex meetings. Works great. Will have to try it out on the full frame, although I don't VLOG đ
Hi mate, which bag is that?
Aww đ» Coco is so adorable.
I wonder how this would compare to the 12 to 24mm Sony f4?
Man I LOVE this lens! đ
This video is very entertaining â€ïžâ€ïž
