Any Marvel fan will tell you the first two Thor movies are less than favorable. It wasn't until Taika Waititi's Thor Ragnarok that fans across the multi-verse finally jumped on board with the Norse God of Thunder. But one key component was missing, Natalie Portman's Jane Foster. Why was Jane Foster suddenly gone from the Thor franchise? Why did Natalie Portman finally decide to come back?

No spoilers but while I enjoyed love and thunder I think the mcu has a comedy problem. Not every character needs to do stand up. It's gotten to the point where I think once Deadpool shows up...its gonna feel less special cause basically everyone is Deadpool now minus the language

Just watched Love and Thunder, Jane Foster story arc could last 2-3movies by itself. Cramming it in a movie filled with comedy kinda takes the drama away. Her journey felt cut short.

Lmao…Natalie was an advocate for more well rounded female characters…yet Disney has a huge problem with making well rounded female characters in every franchise… if a female character pops up it’s a pretty simple formula…little to zero back story, she given powers or has powers simply just because, she stronger than males, she can never truly be bad even if they are “bad” they will be turned into good guys.

Shouldn't have gone with Gorr as the main antagonist. Save Gorr-Bale for later, hopefully with better costume prosthetics, or give him more screen time. Christian Bale was absolutely the highlight of Love and Thunder, capturing Gorr's tragic-villain aspects while also delivering his twisted sense of humour in a few scenes. Gorr could've been utilised a lot more effectively though.
As I am not familiar with the comics , I was very satisfied with the villain. No need to make it more butchery. The actor already conveyed his emotions very well.
@@SkeletonLord delete this shit now
It’s for kids this movie in that it succeeded but really does Thor have to be so stupid sometimes
My issue with the movie is everything (literally everything) took a back seat to the Thor/Jane romance. (And they finally nailed the relationship and the chemistry between Chris and Natalie is the best it’s been. And that was prob the best part of the movie). But it feels like it was the only thing in the movie that mattered. Valkyrie and Korg were pretty much just walking punchlines and though Bale killed it as Gorr, we really had little discovery in his character before he was already facing Thor
@@antoninicolas6222 I hear they cut it to make a kids movie seems the explanation for a more serious movie it would be amazing but not to be
Just saw the movie tonight. With all the jokes aimed at teenagers, it really made me feel like I just outgrew the genre, it was a movie made for kids. Christian Bale was its only saving grace. Seriously not even looking forward to any more Marvel movies after this one and I have seen every single one.
You’re lame. I had a lot of fun watching it. And this is coming from a guy that walked out of the latest doctor strange movie. That movie was a joke.

All of those movies had poor plots and lackluster execution. The MCU rarely ever missed before, now it seems like it barely hits. This is what happens when you lose Cap and Iron Man, no realistic earth bound heroes. Only Spidey is grounded with good movies these days
@@cevcena6692 personally thought Shang chi was a great addition, well grounded and reminded me of early phase 3 movies. I agree the rest have had increasingly messy executions and plots tho, hope this isn’t gonna be a trend for too long 🤞
@@KinWa1 I can see that, I feel like the dragon plot was unnecessary when most origin stories had fairly simple stakes. I hope the MCU shapes up, if not it'll be smth only kids will enjoy
Same man. I got that feeling at the end game
I don't agree that it's the real reason. First of all, Natalie Portman did not "quit" the franchise; she couldn't have. Actors sign a contract for a certain number of films and then have to appear when called, no matter what. That's why Emily Blunt couldn't be Black Widow, for example. In Portman's case, she just mentioned in an interview that she didn't believe she would be back - presumably because her first contract was up - and people deduced that she had quit because of a feud, because that's how the press work. But it was always just a rumor and neither nor Kevin Feige ever alluded at anything other than an amicable split.
So why wasn't she in Ragnarok, then? Well, the problem was with Jane Foster herself. People who read Thor comics know that many of his most famous adventures happen entirely off-world. Giving him a non-powered human love interest - as opposed to, say, Sif, his wife from the mythologies - means Thor is basically forced to remain on Earth because she can't defend herself and has no use on another planet. There was no use for a physicist in Ragnarok, just like there was no use for another scientist in the Avengers movies. Once the Ragnarok plot was decided, the people at Marvel realized that Foster, Lewis and Dr. Selvig would be more trouble that they were worth, so they chose not to exercise their options, had Thor and Jane break up off screen, then had battle-ready Valkyrie in the script to add another woman. Look at Ragnarok again and tell me what Foster could have done. Rescue Thor from slavery? Fight Hela?
Sometimes, the simplest explanation is the right one.
Thanks for your comment, I feel the same way.
Well she was public about her loathing of Thor The Dark World, but so was everyone else. What this video doesn't tell you is that at the time the movie was filmed she was either pregnant or had just given birth, I can't remember which, but the point is, she didn't want to work at all, and she resented the fact that she was forced to by contract. Naturally, she had a miserable experience, but she figured that since her contract was fulfilled they would not need her anymore, but she never quit it said she wouldn't work for Marvel again.
@The Dark Forest The latter. The second paragraph is just my theory but to me, it makes more sense.
Your comment wasn't the most simplest one. Your comment was just an assumption you made .
Portman was big enough to sign on for one movie at a time, which was more common in Phase One.
Taika did TOO well with Ragnarok and set the expectations high for this new one. Sad to say it wasn’t that good. There was so much potential with the plot and Natalie but they were too busy trying to make it comedic and lacked any “love” or heart that should be there.
I felt so bad cuz I saw the potential the plot had, had 90% of the comedic aspect been removed. Straight up Thor was in his prime as a character in Infinity war and end game. Like he had some comedy to him but it mostly dark and fare between due to how he felt. In this movie it felt like they just played his trauma and clear depression for laughs. Every time he would talk about how he felt they would ridicule him or something similar, it was rare that he made the joke himself. Personally I think it would have been better had they gone with either a more balanced approach or removed most of the comedy and taken Thor as seriously as Infinity war did. It could have been so good had it been a deep dive into how Thor processed and dealt with loss. Instead we got cringy jokes and not taking anything but like one thing seriously. By the end I felt completely uninvested just cuz all the jokes took me out of it and made it feel like there where no stakes.
Couldn't finish that bullshit.
@@ricremricrem2221 I just wanted to comment on the quality of your critical opinion as opposed to like 90% of people clowning on recent MCU films. I’m not in the same place as all of it but can see where you come from. Me, I think the film is probably too tightly edited. I loved the film and all its components, but if we had 15 more minutes of on-point Gorr or Jane/Thor dialogue? That would elevate it probably past Ragnarok for me.
Taika Watiti did terrible on "Ragnarok".
And the same thing on "Love And Thunder".

It’s too bad jane foster’s return had to be in a movie where every character is the comic relief
Portman bailed because The Dark World was a Flop. Jane Foster hasn't been Thor's love interest for 40 years. Sif or the Enchantress would have been much more interesting and comic accurate.
This is one of the mcu’s problem it’s a hodgepodge of material from multiple eras in the comics and they expect it to work together well while in some movies like endgame not actually following the rules they establish in the movie
Except that one short scene in Endgame. Didn't she shoot that one?
Agreed, although the actress who played Sif was too mannish to work well in the part. Jaimie Alexander simply doesn't work as a genuine love interest.

Thor is the misfit franchise within the MCU, all the other franchises are science fictions while Thor is just pure fantasy. This makes the experience bizarre for us non comic book movie audience.
Is Dr. Strange science fiction?
@@leichenbuch No but I can understand it's magic. But Gods who are also vulnerable like normal humans, can be extremely evil too, can't wrap my head around it.
@@AbdullahAlSayeed lol You mean Marvel comic book audience, as in the dumbed down, 15-25 year old juvenile man-child who can only understand juvenile Marvel stories. DC movies, on the other hand, is full of gods among men, so Thor would've fitted right in.
@@leichenbuch No it's not. Doctor strange and Thor should also be in the same category.
@@rachetmarvel931 Sounds right. After all, Thor regularly dealt with magic-users. He also dealt with supervillains that other superheroes fought against (not to mention he was an early member of the comic book Avengers) so it's silly of the OP to try and assert that Thor is somehow out of place or 'the misfit franchise within the MCU.' The Hulk is hardly based around sci-fi. Sci-fi isn't a key element in most of their superheroes once you get past the origin stories. Cap has very little sci-fi. Even Iron Man just substitutes limitations in his suit for limitations in Cap's physique. The Torch flies naturally (so to speak) while Iron Man flies using repulsor rays and the like while Thor uses his hammer. How does calling one science and the next one magic make any real difference? It's not as if the books pause for a 90 minute lecture on how we might in practice develop anti-gravity boots.

I just came out of the theater and I have to say that I was kinda disappointed by Love and Thunder. The love angle just feels way too forced considering the fact that Jane hasn’t been a part of the MCU in many years and that she was almost never mentioned as this one unforgettable love-interest for Thor. It just didn’t click for me.
It's the same thing with Multiverse of Madness trying to say that Christine Palmer was some great love and loss for Strange even though he never seemed to bring her up much in the films after it nor did the films really feel like they wanted to show that off, so it's a lot to try to ask for that the character has that much investment when she had so little a presence.
@@motherplayer That was somewhat showed in the what if series. That marvel now expects people to also be caught up with all the series. But that doesn't change that all the phase 4 plans have been pretty bad. Expect for far from home.
If there is forced love, what about thunder?
Is Watiti's fault, though? If you just take this film as a stand-alone (is that even possible?), do you feel differently about Thor and Jane?
It's such a waste to have a character like Darcy Lewis/Kat Dennings and not use her. I mean, when she ran over Thor and knocked him unconscious in the first movie was a great example of the $150 million dollar budget for the movie.
Love and Thunder isn't a bad film. It just isn't a great film and pales in comparison to Ragnarok
I think it was an awful choice for Waititi's Ragnarok style. Or at least he could have opted to go more Hunt for the Wilderpeople here. Jane's story is tragic and should hurt. When Thor asks what she's been up to and she lays the tragic truth on him, it was a laugh line. And I just didn't get the same chemistry here between Hemsworth and Portman that I did in Thor. It just feels like a classic case of a director's success allowing him to be completely self-indulgent, where self-discipline might have helped the film land its emotional beats.
It isn't a bad film. It's awful. I was able to convince myself for eternals but I couldn't for thor even though he is my favorite mcu character.
@@fahadrehman4405 wooooah eternals was awful. Love and thunder is a fun watch
Ragnarok is a rare masterpiece. Its going to be really hard to top that. Its got a 95% with CRITICS on RT for a popcorn action movie. Though the Thor movies always had an element of silliness, this movie leaned too much into the comedy that was set in Ragnarok. I still otherwise enjoyed it.
⚠️ I don't know if there is spoilers because I didn't watch any trailers.
The only problem with this movie is that Waikiki hesitated to go darker, maybe because of Dark world's response but this movie would be perfect for a theme like Dark world the villain and Jane's illness were like perfect table set for a successful dark themed movie.
Like there's a perfect plot they should focus on that more.
If the villains issue are the gods that don't care about people, show us Thor struggling to get the gods attention ( that was too fast still infuriating but short) and struggle between understanding Gorr and trying to stop him for the sake of the kids. Gorr is killing the gods? show us that (short videos was too fast) Jane being dependent of the mjolnir but being killed she gets Thor power as soon as she touches mjolnir what would happen if during the fight Thor grabs it will she lose the power? Her encounter with Gorr should be longer too like 2 more minutes would be enough
There is so many ways to conduct this plot but they went for the " easy way" like a compilation of comic scenes and comedy.
SPOILER WARNING
Gor's story is fantastic and feels out of place. As a "god" who has been focused on his own problems for so long, this could have dovetailed nicely with Thor's shirking his own responsibilities and the larger losses that has caused, or simply just leaving Jane behind to deal with her problems on her own.
Jane's human drama feels glossed over. "I have cancer" should not be a punchline. I get that it is a very heavy topic to drop in an MCU film, but then don't tell that story. They avoided Tony's alcoholism, they could have avoided Jane's cancer. Or they could have just done it right.
Waititi*
@@misterdarwin They 100% could have done justice to Jane's cancer. Thor's pain, trauma, and loss. Gorr's motivations and tragedy. Sif's... well... if you saw the movie you KNOW how DIRTY they did her.
But instead we get jokes with no punchlines. Jokes with no reasoning. Jokes that, when thought about, are off putting.
I guess I should have seen it coming because Taika was helming it but with such amazing performers in it I guess I had my hopes up. Bale was the friggin' star of the movie.
@@sakulaeyr9819 I had the same issues with Ragnarok - Thor's friends being slaughtered while he is having a happy go-lucky adventure. But at least they mostly kept the Hela and Battleworld stories distinct, and Battleworld lent itself to a goofball comedy.
Here we have Gorr instead of Hela, and like that story is mostly played straight. But the buddy picture with Hulk is replaced with Jane. So they replaced a giant man baby with... a former lover dying of cancer. Somehow the laughs died. Go figure.
I'd also add that as far as comedy goes, they swapped Goldblum for Crowe and Hiddleston for Portman. That's loss-loss. Love Natalie, but comedy isn't her strong suit (plus cancer).
Valkyrie wasn't funny. She was a walking token of representation in search of a character, which sucks because I like Valkyrie in the comics and like Tessa Thompson.
And then there was Korg. A little Korg goes a long way. There was just too much Korg, and you could feel them trying to make him funny. His humor in Ragnarok was more natural stemming from his alien nature and confusion. This was just him trying to be Fozzy Bear.
@@misterdarwin See, that's what kills it for me. They were too cowardly to treat Gorr and Cancer with the gravity it deserved. Dancing around serious topics while having a fanciful laugh at trauma, death, and illness? Either make a goofball comedy aimed at 10 year olds or make an epic greek tragedy with all the wonderful trimmings (love, sacrifice, etc) that you've sprinkled around since Thor 1.

@@nourmallysalty What We Do In the Shadows is what brought him to a lot of movie enthusiasts. Ragnarok is what blew him up and let him do JoJo.
The reason the first Thor movie is my favourite is precisely because of the drama that fuels the actions of everyone in it; the fight scenes are okay in itself but the heart is the conflict of Loki trying to reconcile his place in the family after finding out he's a frost giant. Kenneth Branagh did a FANTASTIC job with the story and the visuals of it. I still feel awe when that first scene of Asgard comes up, you know it's a majestic place.
The same goes for all the other movies - I find that I'm okay with a not-brilliant script/movie if it features genuine character development, rather than caricatures focusing on humour. But I seem to belong to a small circle of people who thinks so.
My personal ranking:
1. Thor
2. The dark world
3. Love and thunder
4. Ragnarok
Funny enough, from the reviews on "Love and Thunder" while good not great, comedy seems to be its Achilles heel.
In my opinion, that's entirely the case.
@Mazzy SPOILERS
IMO the biggest offender is when Zeus blasts Korg. Having a god take his friend should be proper motivation to kill a god and bringer Thor closer to being like Gorr. It'd make thematic sense so that when Thor rejects hate in favor of love, it makes him stand out from his enemy. But no. Now the funny rock man is a talking head. Great.
Portlman's performance brought me to tears
Thor 2 is the 2nd worst in the MCU franchise for me.
But Thor 1 is a lot of fun.
Yeah, I thought so too. Especially when Darcy runs over Thor. And keeping the continuity going Jane also backs into Thor and knocks him unconscious.
For me one of the best and first Iron man
Black widow is one of the worst
I can see they are really pulling back and targeting the child audiences again, that's why Disney hired Taika to do Thor Ragnarok because of his comedy and well written characters but Taika's other movies are not really PG and his creative work becomes messy in this one because of the pull back of mature content by Disney.
Phase 4 is very rocky and they are moving too fast, I think they should just take time and write a good story and give some creative freedom to the directors and writers.
I think they should just stop. Phase 4 lacks the drive of the previous 3 phases. And after over a decade the formula is getting old. There's nothing new or refreshing in their movies. There's no concequences to their story. Which begs the question. If there's no concequences why should I care. The drive of the mcu was the Avengers which smoothly transitioned to Thanos. But phase 4 is an unwanted sequel with only one objective. Money.
Write a good story with create freedom to the filmmakers? You mean like what they did with WandaVision, MoonKnight, and Ms Marvel? Those shows shine because they’re not chained to being comic accurate and just write a good story and make you love he characters. And Oscar Isaac and Iman Velani are so good they’re about to carry the MCU.
@@Fantallana Wandavision shines a bit but became dim in the last episode,
They show quicksilver but it's ralph boner and jt became messy same with moon knight it supposed to be a lesser cgi fight with more combat scenes because you know it's cool to have more action scenes that are not CGI'ed but in the end we got another useless Kaiju fight but I like the characters and story so far but you can see they are pulling back and here comes Ms. Marvel which I totally understand and what or who audiences they are aiming and pushing back the Disney-fied teenage tv shows but the cultural representation and character development are not balanced well because of the cultural representation covered the whole show and not the main character,
I'm Asian but I am enough proud to see Marvel represents shows and movies without borders, but not the overload representation
but I like Falcon and the Winter soldier because it shows more emotions and the development of the characters with the society, but it's too fast and it should make it slower to feel the grit, and Loki is well written adventure-ish series but the last episode became like a teaser trailer for season 2 but the show is great but not very great and lastly Hawkeye and it has the common problem, hype culture, why the final boss is a character that only appeared in the Daredevil shows, but only appears in the hawkeye season finale? You can't feel the personal conflict between Kate and Kingpin because Kate doesn't know him, Hawkeye knew him but when and where? Kingpin's role in Hawkeye is more likely a hype cameo than an actual villain.
So Phase 4 wants to expand more because of the MCU's success and well written stories and I noticed that Phase 4 shows more diversity or different ethnicity but why now? Why can't make it a normal thing in movies and shows before? if Disney wants to aim or show diversity, they should normalized it and people can agree that everybody always one of us, equal and it is not even decisional or not optional because that's what it is and not creates some overload representation that shadowed the main plot,

I am not some anti-wokeness snowflake and generally get annoyed by how easily a lot of people jump to labeling something that, but with that said Jane was the absolute worst part of Love and Thunder. She's not even a character. She just shows up to say meme lines and occasionally hit things. There's no story line for her at all.
She sucked in The Dark World too.
@No Nope Of course not. She's not a character. She has no development, b/c that implies women are ever incomplete. She's just an image. An absurd image so that Marvel can continue to pretend it's feminist.
"She's not even a character. She just shows up to say meme lines and occasionally hit things."
But isn't that Jane Foster's arc in the movie? She is not a super hero. She was just given powers and now she plays/acts like what she thinks a superhero would be like. The characterization is awkward because the character is not set in her role.
Did you actually watch the movie?
But she gets to play superhero and smash things. Not a lot of opportunities for Portman to do that (while making a ton of cash to boot!). The bit about her finding a catch phrase feels like the most genuine thing about Portman in this film - she's here to play with the boys and having fun doing it. Unfortunately (SPOILER WARNING) her character is dying of cancer and in love with the lead and I didn't feel any of that. This story demanded way more heart and far less silly. Love Taika but he dropped the ball.
Ragnarok was the
equivalent of a valkyrie airbrush to the side of a van blaring led zeppelin

A video without giving credit to sources is just a waste of time
In short, Money…
Having Taika again, for the 4th movie is going to possibly suck because it's too much of the same thing that I doubt will work, Taika is played out.
It's the same thing now over and over. Inserting himself on-screen and everything is turned into a joke. It's ok Thor your entire family is dead, your home and people destroyed but here's a funny talking rock man to entertain your idiot brain
Thor 1 was amazing.

How did we go from Ragnorok to Love and Thunder which is basically an actual Ragnorok of the Thor Franchise. Its just 2 hours of jokes that don't land. Thanks Watiti. You ruined what could have been a great movie.
Idk, the writing was on the wall with Ragnarok
He is going to make the next star war’s film too. He can help ruin that too
I personally think the story they told in Love and Thunder doesn't need Jane Thor in it all that much. I would much prefer them introducing her in the film ala Spiderman in Civil War then pivoting back to her and her character arc in the movie after so they have enough screentime to develop Gorr. He's great, but I believe most people would agree he lacked screentime, or at the very least, presence in the film.
They tried to put a few side plots in there to add ~layers~ to a movie that never actually put any drama or stakes in. Like, how is the audience supposed to care about Gorr killing Gods when even the Gods don't give a shit? If Love & Thunder was a cartoon show like Harley Quinn's, it would make a ton more sense. Also, Jane's arc could've and maybe even should've been its own movie. She was the most dynamic character in the movie imo.
I liked Love and Thunder and due to the story I didn't mind it was mostly comedy.
I think Loki and Strange handle the series side of Marvel well enough.
The only real problem with the MCU is Disney or whoever is in charge not taking advantage the lessons the comics already learned.
That's what holding the MCU up right.
Love and Thunder wasn't "too comedic", because the comedy fell flat... Like all of it, the jokes never land. They needed to write a funny script to make a successful comedy. This was SNL tier quality.
The theater I watched it in, was full of people murmuring and talking after almost every failed joke. I heard audible complaints of people talking about it not being funny. There were a few chuckles at the screaming goats, and then audible complaints in the theater.
This was the first movie I've walked out of. It felt like someone TRYING to remake Ragnarok's comedy, and failing hard. This may be one of the worst MCUs movies so far.
what a rebel you must be, paying 16$ and not finishing the movie...you sound like a james bond villain . literally scared right now.
Agreed
@@papageorges6428 cringe.... I'm not surprised you'd be a fan of bad comedy.
I completely disagree. But I guess you just need to loosen up your tits a bit and not hold on to your expectations for dear life to appreciate individual expression within a world you know. May be hard. But I recommend it very much. Also, my impression was that cringe was an intentional emotional result at certain points. That's on brand for Taika as part of his humour. I personally love it. And I liked Love and Thunder better than Ragnarok.
@@mangaas nah they’ve got a point
I have loved Portman since her screen debut -- she is above such fluff that is the MCU and could find better characters to play at the drop of a hat (as she has done time and again for decades).
I have been a Natalie Portman fan since I first saw Star Wars episode 1 in theaters that I wanted all her merchandise from the franchise and would carry her voice chips with me she is so much better then most of the actors the mcu has
loved the movie!
Hey can you guys do a video on riverdale. How off the rails it has gone and if it was good for the show
Thor 1 still one of the best of MCU movies
Nah
Me and my brother have been rewatching the phase 1 movies, and I don’t get why people think phase 4 is “downhill.” We’ve made it through IronMan 1 and 2, Hulk, and Thor 1, and they’re all just “ok” at best. And yet people shit on movies like Captain Marvel? which is honestly better than any of those films. (Yes I know CM is phase 3.) And the Disney+ series are too, in our opinion.
I think Thor II
She thought she was too good for a comic-book movie. But then came back for the money.
Groovy
Thanks for explenation, I really needed that. Especially to understand why the movie Thor Love and Thunder sucks so much.
Hello there

Real reason according to me--
Walked out because dark world failed.
Came back because she is irrelevant now with no success in last 6 7 years. So what's better than a marvel movie to get a big pay check and some relivence
I really hate how Love and Thunder has too much comedy on it, not that it's bad but something that's too much is always a bad thing. The movie would've been more balanced if they reduced the comedy part.
Oh man, I wish I could have seen the Romeo and Juliet Thor!!!

The bigger question I have is... why didn't we see Loki in the end?
Why would we see Loki in the end?
Having Jane get the Thor powers because Thor unintentionally gave them to her is pretty lazy.
They couldn't come up with something she could do to actually be worthy like donate a kidney, save a drowning kid from a car, run into a burning building.
She's a scientist. Like you said, they could literally have a quick flashback of her doing something noble and selfless when she has no power and boom, worthy

Thor is my second favourite Character (1st Place goes to Captain America), but love and thunder was an abomination. I could enjoy it for some parts, the music and some of the visuals, but as a thor movie it was an incredible disappointment. They keep on degrading the character of Thor. Nothing against humor in Thor movies, Branagh did it so well in the first one, but Thor has become a parody instead of the god he should be in the MCU and/or the Avengers. He once again is made the fool in his own movie, goofing around here and there, a joke here, a funny decision there and overall just a tonal (!) mess. I´m glad they gave Steve a great conclusion in endgame, Thor on the other hand has to suffer Waititi as the writer and directer, who I usually like, but who´d be better suited for guardians/deadpool/spiderman.
Love and Thunder had one too many small/inside jokes that didn't land and was really unneeded, Jane's cancer was really heartbreaking combined with Natalie Portman looking so frail after becoming Thor, but unfortunately there weren't too many of that, it's like they wanted to tackle two major things like Gorr and Jane's cancer, but just ends up with a lousy team up movie with what once was a promising arc for Jane, that ends up being somewhat underdeveloped, and Gorr 😔 all his scenes basically showed up in the trailers already 😂 yet another throwaway villain mcu doesn't want you to care about
6:26 thats debatable
I haven't seen Ragnoroc, but I might decide to at some point. I just didn't like how they basically turned it all into a joke. Cool to see that Natalie Portman is back and being given a larger role.
Just saw it today and thought it was wonderful. I really think they did the character justice
If one did not know this information, and I'm saying this whole the intro ad plays, then they don't care.
Her new summer house in the Hamptons is named Love and Thunder
its a 7/1. i didn't like the hammy ness in some scenes. like when the asgard people are panicking over the missing children. maybe the scene could have taken it a little bit more serious. it only got a high seven because i like the ending of thor being a dad/
I wanted to love Love n Thunder as I loved Ragnorak.. It had its moments for me and Bale as usual was awesome. But it was overall flat and wasted his performance. IMO. Will give it another go but eh...
I missed Loki. Thor without Loki feels incomplete
i honestly got super confused with how they explained thor and jane's relationship. i was under the impression that they broke up bc thor literally went missing for like 3 years. a human's lifespan is like 80-100, so it's totally reasonable for jane to move on. but then in love & thunder, apparently their relationship was like super good and thor was around often, so then the reason they broke up felt super weak if it was actually such a good relationship. i guess you could chalk that up to korg overestimating things and getting the stories wrong (as they do naturally). but i also don't want to make excuses for their lack of consistency.
Maybe I don’t know I haven’t seen it yet
Probably an unpopular opinion, but thor Ragnarok was very very over rated
just remove like 1-2 'very's and that's actually ragnarok, i liked it but it should've gotten a 80% in rotten tomatoes, not the incredibly high 83% or something
Thor: Love And Thunder Spoiler Warning
My review:
Ok so this movie was kind of bad. The pacing was horrible, the plot sucked, and the dialogue was pretty bad.
Overall this movie just felt like a dream it was so weird, and not in a good way. They were just trying too hard to replicate Thor Ragnarok, and that was not a good idea. Most of the jokes didn’t land, and the ones that did barely got a chuckle out of me.
But some good things: the acting was amazing, they just had to deal with bad dialogue. Taika Waititi is amazing, and I don’t blame this movie being bad on him at all, I blame the Marvel producers. The visuals were stunning and the fight scenes were amazing.
But in my opinion, the bad outweighs the good. I had high expectation after the amazing Ragnarok, and I was severely let down.
I don’t really know how others think, so I don’t really know if I’m just being a contrarian or not. Please tell me what you thought about the movie too, fellow commenters
I’d give this movie a 5.7/10
But Taika co-wrote Love and Thunder, in addition to being director and Korg vs Ragnarok where he was just director and Korg. I’m not saying it’s not entirely Taika’s fault but saying the co-writer and director aren’t to blame then who is?
@@NateDizzle312 Marvel producers wanting to replicate Thor Ragnarok. In this movie you can tell that Waititi has a good vision, it’s just held back by the higher ups
💀
I never liked Thor's comedic tone. Kinda glad this movie failed so we could move on from the stupid Marvel jokey formula. Patty Jenkins' more serious Thor plot sounded more interesting than anything Taika has written.
I think most of the feedback you give doesn't only apply to thor. I love marvel films & can't seem to get enough of them. But after No Way Home's major success, I do feel a majority of films following it just isnt that good starting from moon knight onwards until now, except Shang Chi. (Rewatched shang chi a total of 8 times already)
All had the same problem, bad pacing, bad dialogue, and awkward fight scenes that felt like they were mixed into it just because every marvel film is considered an "action" movie.
Again just an opinion, dont slam me people✌🏻
Indeed, who remembers Thor: The Dark World?
Me. Better than the David taika dross
Good Bye Jane Foster we miss you 😀😎👍🤘❤⚡
I know there’s a lot of people saying Love and Thunder is too comedic. Really have to look at it from the perspective of the main characters in the movie. It’s realistically giving laughs, because it’d be a depressing movie without the laughs. I know I watched and could understand the movie. They really did a good job. It’s no different if you watch Jojo Rabbit. It’s a movie filled with comedy, but it’s still a movie about a kid and his Mom. That evolves into a serious film.
But yeah, if everyone thinks Love and Thunder is a comedy. Keep a closer eye on what’s being shown.
Interesting.
Love and thunder sucked ass
It could be respectful to the characters and what they’ve gone thru. It doesn’t. That’s the difference between it and Jojo. The little girls life struggles weren’t made into bad jokes.
@@KPT437 Jojo wasn’t so much about the girl. It’s more a little boy who starts off being just another blind sheep. In a way you have him wanting to be ideal in the eyes of Hitler. To be put in a position, where symbolically he’s forced to learning to accept the girl. Even though he’s been told to hate Jew’s. The more touching part is you see the movie foreshadowing what’ll happen. You see the executed people for harboring Jewish people hanging. Then not long after you see Jojo by his Mom’s feet. Which later see she was caught and hung. In a way you also see the mother struggling with their beliefs in all Jew’s are bad. She lost her husband to the war and had to watch her son fall into the same lies.
In love and thunder, there’s more to it than it’s laughs. You have characters dealing different issues. I watched screencrush after my comment. Which I honestly thank them, Heavy Spoilers, New Rockstars and wisecrack for breakdown videos. In screencrush’s video they point out Thor is looking for love and purpose. Jane is listening to Darcy in letting the universe tell her what to do. Even if you look at the gods, they all bleed gold. Which symbolizes hoarding wealth. In a way they will only help if they’re asked. Otherwise they live to have orgy’s and not interfere with humans. Which in a way if you see Thor, his blood is red. Because he aids humans in conflicts.
I know not many will look pass the comedy aspect. But like I said, I watch breakdown videos. They generally help me really enjoy movies. Because I can get it a lot clearer. Which before I’d not mentally process it. One other thing to note from Screencrush, since I know I found the goats funny. The goats were meant to be a punishment for destroying the temple. I do think the best part was the second end credit scene. It’s sweet. Because both Natalie Portman and Idris Elba, had a hard time around Thor 2. Which it’s nice to see Taika still give them some love. Because Natalie’s friend Patty Jenkins was dropped for Thor 2. While Idris had to have a helmet literally glued to his head. So to continue to show them love. Is just really nice.
@@86LukeM The thing is that we know from his films Taika can do the drama and the heart along with the silly. Jojo balances that well. L&T gets lost in its silliness.
She can't be Thor because that's not a title but a name. He is Thor, son of Oden. She can be a hero and everything but makeup a new name.
Dude… she’s literally called The Mighty Thor for a reason. She isn’t Thor Odinson but she has all the powers of Thor that basically make her Thor.
@@tommy_swim243 It's an awful name, though. Mighty Thor was the name of the original comic (well, after Journey into Mystery). It's akin to calling War Machine "Invincible Iron Man," or Miles Morales "Amazing Spider-Man." I get not wanting to call her Lady Thor or She-Thor or Thorella, but "Mighty Thor" is just awkward and feels of overcompensating. In the comics they just did "Thor" and that was fine (though Mighty Thor was the book's title again, it was not used as the character's name).
I loved love and thunder
You forgot to mention Ike Perlmutter's influence over the MCU during phase 2, that would have contributed to Jenkins and Portman's dissatisfaction. Also, the Jane Mighty Thor storyline was epic in the comics and Waititi reduced it to a side note in a joke of a film, which was a disservice to Portman, the Jane, the those who have been touched by cancer and to the fans of the MCU. Phase 4 has been an absolute failure.
Jane can stay as long as Chris Hemsworth Thor can stay as long as he wants
