    To me main difference is the Evo 4 option, saving the settings as presets in the app. So you can reproduce recordings with the same guitar and sounds. Not possible with interfaces with analogue turning pots.

    I really appreciate finally someone coming up and making a guitar specific review on audio interfaces, well done! Though i'd like to mention that RTL (round trip latency) is more important while playing guitar with Amp Sims. I believe the values in Standalone Plugins that were shown in this video relate to Output Latency only. So we need to focus on RTL values more and those can be obtained from DAWs or tools such as RTL Utility (which is more reliable). Also maybe it would be worth to mention that both of these models share the same JFet structure in D.I. input which is a big plus for recording guitars to be able to give that warm tube feel.

    • @MaxSoloMusic
      @MaxSoloMusic  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks. RTL is exactly what was measured in my tests. The same procedure as always - czcams.com/video/ds6CV13Lh4Q/video.html or czcams.com/video/l3wnJGtoG5w/video.html . The values shown in plugins or DAWs are never correct since the software has no way of knowing what kind of converters the audio interface uses and how fast/slow those are

    It drives me crazy how low level these Hi-z inputs have to be with passive pickups to keep from clipping. It effects the sound when you cant put the gain over a quarter turn, especially when using heavy distortion. It makes it sound thin. But the line inputs take away the clarity, so you cant win.

    hi ,great video and hope you are having a great time right now, I'm plugging my electric guitar directly into the electric guitar input of the audient id4 mkii interface but even when I crank the gain up to max level it still won't clip and at max gain my guitar signal is around -6db. and if I put the gain level at 12 pm the signal will be at -36 which is really low, I haven't changed my strings for months could the low signal be because of that? I don't know if this is normal or not, would be glad if you could guide me please? thank you so much

    • @MaxSoloMusic
      @MaxSoloMusic  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Reza. That doesn't sound normal. I usually turn the gain knob on the interface all the way down and that works just fine even with single coils. Some people even complained about clipping when used with hot pickups. If you try it with another guitar and another cable that might help you find the source of the problem

      @@MaxSoloMusic No problem. Thanks for replying! I just wanted to know where the noise floor peaks at to get a sense of the dynamic range. I typically record high gain guitars so I need very high dynamic range. In my Behringer UM2, the noise floor peaks around -68dB and the signal clips at -3dB, giving me a dynamic range of 65dB which is not very good for high gain guitars.

    • @neiltyrrell2187
      @neiltyrrell2187 Před 5 měsíci

      The id4 is the better choice if your looking to purchase for primarily vocal recording due to the mic preamp built into the interface. The evo uses software to emulate the audient preamps on the back end. I have an old usb b to a model id4 and the evo 4. i like both of them but there is a slightly more polished sound when recording mic'd sources with the id 4.

    I'm not sure why would would compare these two other than a price comparison. Ok, fair enough. However the iD14 really needs to be included here with its added flexability. One thing we can agree on is Audient has a tremendous selection of quality interfaces for everyone. Both the iD4 and iD14 have a JFET OpAmp for the guitar input. I'm not sure if the Evo line does, but I suspect they do.
    TY for the review!

  • @srabremix
    @srabremix Před 2 lety +6

    The Evo 8 comes with a monitor mix software that can achieve what you are after. They should really provide that with the 4-version as well. The monitor feature together with the double headphone jacks (which also allows two separate monitor mixes) is what made me switch to the 8-version. A little more expensive, alot more flexible.

    • @awood186
      @awood186 Před 2 lety +1

      I am confused as to what he is saying it does or does not have? The id4 has the switch that allows you to turn down the Daw mix and turn up the direct input to monitor yourself in real time. This is a direct monitor switch with just more custom control than other interfaces.

    I wonder why Audient made the decision to go with a DI input impedance of 500k on the ID4 and 1M ohm on th evo? I just purchased a ID4 and can definitely hear a difference in the high end frequencies.

    • @adrs2
      @adrs2 Před 2 lety +4

      It is probably just a matter of one smd resistor. :D I have no idea what was the idea. Some vintage american tube amps have 500kohm on input which plays well with single coil and 250kohm resistors, but 1Mohm is just a modern standard, unless it's piezo preamp with even 10Mohm. The same way 20ohm output impedance for phones is a design flaw, because it rises thd on 90% headphones on the market.

      and therefore in the attack, i have a focusrite clarett 2 pre and it also has a 600K input when swithced to instrument. When I put muy TC Bonafide buffer in front - which has a 1meg input and a 10k output - and switch it to standard line inut instead of instrument the difference is night and day in feel and also sounds better and more open and live when using a guitar plugin

    • @adrs2
      @adrs2 Před 2 lety +3

      @@milankotevski1663 he is buffering his guitar pickup with high impedance preamp which doesn't load the pickup (not altering current induction in the coils because it presents a very big resistance to the circuit = is transparent). Output impedance of such a buffer is much lower, but imo 10kohm output is in my opinion too much for line input which is constructed for 100-600 ohm line level impedance. Input impedance must be minimum 8x bigger than source. Otherwise it will influence the circuit. But the most important is not loading the pickup. In case of guitar pickup it seems that 50x is sometimes not enough because of its passive RLC construction (10kohm coil + 500 kohm input impedance vs 1Meg). Some people change 2 500kohm potentiometers of humbuckers to 1Meg because difference is audible and the pot loads the circuit always even when set to 100%. When we put input impedance of 500kohm we load the pickup three times (500kohm 2 pots + input resulting in more or less 166kohm load). By using 1meg input we get 200kohm load.
