    Wow. This is so eye opening for me. I’ve owned many fish in the past, but I guess I was always told to not “bother them” because it will stress them out. But I’m realizing now that a fish’s life doesn’t have to be stressful. It can actually be filled with joy, enrichment and affectionate bonding with its owner. This is such a great thing to do for your fish, giving it something to stimulate its mind and body and giving it a purpose instead of just swimming back and forth in its tank. Ive never trained a fish before, but in the future when I inevitably get them again, I definitely will try!
    Thanks for the upload I know this was a few years ago but felt I had to comment.
    Ps: I’m just thinking right now that you could actually train your fish to go into the net once it’s time to clean the tank.. it could actually not be stressed out and know what’s going on! This is amazing!

      Thank you for the comment! :) Fish really are capable of so much. Star is so curious and intelligent, so training puts his mind to good use. The video was a couple years ago, but I still do a bit of training with Star now too. :) He enjoys it so much, it's difficult to stop completely. We haven't been working on too many new tricks lately (I really should think of something new to teach him though!) Hopefully I'll get around to finishing and uploading an updated video soon! :)

    This is a very cute and heartwarming video. It reminds me of my own daily experiences with my cichlids. I have 16 tanks of African Cichlids, most are pets and I also breed the Aulonocara Red Top Lwanda Species of cichlid. I can attest to the fact they are very smart fish and quick to learn. Some like to swim into my hand and let me pick them up and hold them out of the water and put them back then come right back to me, it’s a game they play with me when I’m changing their water, lol cichlids are hilarious, they also learn to recognize their owners(tank keepers) faces and the sound vibration of their names (if you name yours). They can live 6-10 years in captivity depending on the breed some longer.

    • @AmazingAnimalTricks

      I do cherish every minute I have them with me. They're truly a blessing. ♥ Ceico is about 4 and a half years old now, I work with him for a few minutes once a day and have since he was young. Ace is almost a year and a half now I think. I worked with him 2-3 times a day for the first few months, and now once a day, sometimes twice.
      Ceico was a lot more challenging at the beginning (he has always been a nervous pig) so he took quite a bit longer to learn than Ace (who is afraid of nothing lol.)

    Wow so many great tricks! Do you use a clicker with him? Do you lure him to begin with or just see what he offers? I love him going though the tiny hoop and through the net, he's pretty speedy, love how he knows exactly what to do as soon as he sees each item. Does he have good eyesight?

    • @AmazingAnimalTricks
      @AmazingAnimalTricks  Před 8 lety +4

      +Positive Ferrets haha, the hoop didn't used to be tiny! :P He has grown so much, lol. :P He is so speedy though, lol. I was used to working with bettas before him (super slow sloths of the fish world! :P) so it definitely took some adjustment and a specific balancing act to keep up with him, haha. :P I sometimes use the target stick to guide him, I often just shape or capture behaviours though, he is quick and offers a lot of different behaviours, so it's usually pretty easy to shape new tricks. :) I haven't used a clicker too much with him, but when he sees me raise my arm up to give him the food, or touch the surface of the water with my finger, it seems to have a similar effect to a clicker. :)
      I don't know how well he can see to be honest, but there's a video on youtube of a clicker trained fish named Erasmus (same species as Star) that circles in different directions in response to different colours, so apparently they can see different colours. :)

      +ShanesWorldification Thanks! :) Fish can definitely be pretty smart, I think most people just don't think too much about how intelligent they can be. :)

      It only takes a few minutes a day. :) Just start with simple things like eating food from your hand or touching a target and then go from there. These videos may help:
