So excited to be checking out more Stevie!! Thanks for you all who voted this in!!! Make sure to vote in this weeks poll!! Cheers all!! Have a great weekend! 🙌🏻🔥
Now that you've heard both songs...check out "Stevie Wonder & Sting - Higher Ground and Roxanne (Live)" Two legends performing together. Not for a reaction, just on your own because it's just so good! 😊
czcams.com/video/QsaWoSq-OBo/video.html
Absolutely do Sly and the Family Stone!
I was hoping for "Isn't She Lovely" but this one has such a great groove to it! Red Hot Chili Peppers did a remake of it which is pretty good but you can't beat Stevie! Please check out Bachman Turner Overdrive "Let It Ride" & for fun you should check out The Fifth Dimension "Age of Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In" 🙂 Peace!! ✌
1) For your next Stevie Wonder, try "As" or "Pastime Paradise". Or anything else from his classic period; there are no bad songs.
2) Yes yes yes to Sly & the Family Stone
More R&B and soul! Sly & The Family Stone! Aretha! Otis Redding! Temptations! Diana Ross & the Supremes!
I remember Paul Simon making an acceptance speech when he got a grammy for record of the year. "I'd like to thank my parents, my management, and Stevie Wonder for not making an album this year."
I remember that! Priceless.🤣
Three best album Grammys in four years for Stevie. If he'd split Songs in the Key of Life into two albums and released one of them a year earlier, he'd have been four-for-four (not that I think anything should be changed about Songs in the Key of Life).
Yes! I remember one year in the 1970's. Stevie received several nominations. He couldn't attend, so he asked Mayor Coleman Young of Detroit to attend and accept for him if he won. Well, Stevie kept winning one award after another. Finally, Mayor Young said "I haven't been this busy since the election."
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I did not know that.
@@Entertainzor I remember that. Lol
Stevie wrote AND recorded this in 3 hours, AND he played all the instruments himself. This album Innervisions is maybe my favorite album of all time. Absolute MASTERPIECE.
From wiki: "Blind since shortly after his birth, Wonder was a child prodigy known as , leading him to sign with Motown's Tamla label at the age of 11. In 1963, the single "Fingertips" was a number-one hit on the Hot 100 when Wonder was 13, making him the youngest artist ever to top the chart." THIRTEEN!
“Don’t You Worry’bout A Thing”
Yes, yes, and again yes. It's such an amazing song, and shows yet another amazing side of Stevie's talent.
@@FellunB Yeah, that's the track off this album for me
Brilliant!
“Living For The City” ♥️♥️♥️♥️
That's a great one!
Long version!
His most epic tune ever.
Anything from talking book
Absolutely!! ❤️
A&A, His "Sir Duke" and "I Wish" are bangers. "You Haven't Done Nothing" and "Livin' For The City" for some of his social commentary. You did his Superstition That was the funkiest song ever written and my favorite. He's the GOAT's GOAT
Yeah, Sir Duke is MORE of a banger than this. You can feel it all over :)
He also wrote "Isn't She Lovely", "I Just Called to Say I Love You" and an entire album about PLANTS.
There's no forgiving that...
"Livin' For The City" for sure!
Boogie On, Reggae Woman is a great one, too!
I wish has a great groove. You two might know the groove of you know Will Smith's Wild Wild West.
Stevie Wonder was completely blind by the time he was a 6 week old newborn, and it never ceases to amaze me how he became a pure, magical, stratospherically gifted, musical genius.
*Sniff!*
How do blind learn piano
My bride (of 45 years!) walked down the aisle, during a Connecticut snowstorm, to his "You Are The Sunshine of My Life". We have a special place in our hearts for this American Legend.
Stevie was on Sesame Street when I was kid in the 70's. I've never known a world without Stevie Wonder. He is a national treasure.
That kid with the hair rocking out at the top of the stairs when Stevie performed on Sesame Street is the greatest thing ever caught on camera.
I remember that episode. Stevie played the drums and sang Superstition
Best Sesame street ever. Also - Grace slick did the jazz number counting... Jim Henson knew what was up!!!
As important as The Beatles, and i'm a Brit.
Whoever has been saying Sly and the Family Stone is right. You need to do I Want to Take You Higher.
If You Want Me To Stay!
Or "Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin."
Definitely some Sly - If you want me to stay, family affair, really anything!
Thank You (Fallettin Me...), Dance to the Music, Everyday People, all are bangers.
@@armadillotoe also underdog
He's done so many fantastic songs. The whole Songs In The Key of Life album is awesome. Stevie's a national treasure.
Stevie Wonder is a musical genius. There should be a masterclass taught on his catalog.
You’d be hard pressed to find anything weak in his entire 70s output.
Next: Living for the City
As Eddie said, Stevie is a musical genius. Livin’ for the City is a masterpiece and under appreciated.
More Stevie:
With one of the sickest Bass lines I've EVER heard, Boogie on Reggae Woman.
The passing fills are super funky!
That bass line is Stevie doing magic on a Moog synth.
Yep, that's an absolute banger. I think these guys would rate that higher than this song.
Nathan Watts is an incredible bass player.
The best ever!
Agreed. Boogie On. Damn too many great songs.
Stevie Wonder-one of the greatest American musical artists of all-time. Phenomenal. The Red Hot Chili Peppers do an awesome cover of this song as well-one of the best cover songs in rock music. Obviously, they have great source material!
Indeed, the Chili's rock this tune to the moon. They also speak to Stevie during the tune, which shows mad respect.
Their version was the first time I heard the song. I didn't realize it was a cover for years
@@McBeth. Plus, you have Stevie Ray Vaughn's cover of this-which is also amazing! I heard Stevie Wonder's first, then SRV and then RHCP. Honestly, the 3 songs might be the best original
/cover versions combined that I have ever heard.
I prefer the RHCP version, as the tempo is much faster and Flea's base is amazing.
@@jeffk2526 SRV covered Superstition.
This is one of those songs that needs to be heard through a powerful-assed system, with huge speakers and a turntable, at maximum volume.
Four speakers and the sound goes around the room
@@kathymonteith81 I've seen headphones with two drivers per ear, front and back giving a quad type effect.
And some chest-thumping bass.
With the windows rattling and the neighbors dancing!
Stevie played every instrument on his 1970s albums, then hired musicians for live performances.
I mean, he didn't. Like he did for one or two songs in the 70s but everything else had an immense list of musicians who played on it
Stevie Wonder played ALL the instruments on this track. Talent beyond amazing!
Living for the City
Billy Preston - Will It Go Round in Circles
Yup!
@Edward Hoppe ....and "Outta Space"(my personal favorite BP song). Also "Nothing From Nothing", and "My Soul Is a Witness".
I had the 45 record back in the day. Side A was "Will it Go Round in Circles" - Side B was "Space Race". Can't forget t mention Billy's extensive work with the Rolling Stones.
@@delphi-moochymaker62 ...and his cover of The Beatles "Get Back". Didn't he play keys on some Beatles tunes also? I too had a BP 45. Mine was "Nothing From Nothing" w/ B side "My Soul Is a Witness"
Good call, though I'd go with "Nothing From Nothing".
I’m a giant Stevie fan- “Livin for the City” should be next, but there are SO MANY good ones. It’s time to do the James Brown dive too - check out “The Payback” for funk nastiness
Gotta have that popcorn on those drums!!!! ;-)
@Bryan Spann ...and "Sex Machine".
Soooo many James Brown songs...
@Bryan Spann - they should do something from his Boston show the day after MLK died or Please, Please, Please from the T.A.M.I. show. Total classic. Take care and stay safe 😷
Agreed....Guaranteed "S"
When I went to my first Rolling Stones concert (Charlotte, July 6, 1972), the opening act was Stevie Wonder .... with a great R&B backing band, girl singers, and he played about every instrument at one time in the set ... amazing
The clavinet is what's making that popping groove.
Totally agree, this and Superstition are the best "clavinet-popped" hit tunes out there.
@@djhrecordhound4391 besides “up on cripple creek” by the band
Stevie Wonder is genius material. I'd put him up there with Lennon & McCartney, Elton John, Paul Simon. Beyond brilliant. Your next songs should be Sir Duke, Master Blaster, I Wish, Boogie on Reggae Woman
Yes to the three songs you mentioned. I’d also through in Living For the City. Still timely.
And boogie on reggae woman.
@@michaellynch5254 Just added it, then I read your comment. Like minds
@Frankincensed Although I agree with your comment, I gave you thumbs up because I'm a bigger fan of FZ than Stevie, and I dig your profile name w/pic.
@@djhrecordhound4391 well, with Zappa, i say best composer all time. He's in a category all by himself.
Agree with the recommendations for “Sir Duke,” “I Wish,” “Living for the City,” and “You Haven’t Done Nothing.”
I would also put in a good word for some of the early Motown hits like “I Was Made To Love Her,” “Uptight,” and “For Once In My Life.”
You also can’t forget great ballads like “Lately” and “Overjoyed.”
So much great material to choose from with Stevie.
I went to a Rock and Roll show in the early 60’s and a 13 year old kid named Little Stevie Wonder performed “Fingertips Part II”. He’s a living legend with great hits and this is no exception. It’s nice that young guys like you appreciate great music. Thank you guys.
His very first hit song. Rock history, what a treasure 🪙
You could spend months with Stevie. My favorites “Don’t You Worry ‘bout A Thing”, “Living For The City” and “Boogie On Reggae Woman”- all smash hits
Yes, Reggae Woman! So good!
More like years...I have almost 50 and still rocking his stuff on a thumb drive in my Car...:)...Stevie is life..
Stevie is the man! Living for the City is epic!
Probably already mentioned in the comments, but he played every instrument. His left hand bass work on the Moog is incredible. So funky. My favorite for his bass is on Boogie on Reggae Woman.
"Powers keep on lying
while your people keep on dying"
I wish that wasn't so damn constant in our world
Stevie Wonder plays all the instruments on this song, like he does on a lot of cuts.
Pretty well every record Stevie made after puberty was self-produced, then he'd hire musicians to play live.
“Musicians” of that caliber hehe. Stevie played every instrument in this song and he did with a lot of his work! You would never think that at first with him being blind and all lolll I was so surprised when I found out
One of greatest Pop albums of all-time. Was a teenager when this came out--it was HUGE!
Living For The City still gives me chills and I’ve listened to it since I was a little girl when it came out !! Love your guys’ reviews ❤️ Keep on groovin lol
I was a slightly bigger girl, 20 years old, and it still gives me chills too !!
Get ready for some spiritual FUNK! Stevie Wonder wa a child prodigy. He wrote this song in only 3 hours, and plays all the instruments on this 1973 track. GENIUS! On his album Innervisions.👏
Better than that...he wrote AND recorded it in 3 hours. That's unreal!
D. totally unreal!
@@j.d.9010 Sometimes a song just comes pouring out of someone. Brian Wilson said he wrote "Caroline, no" in about the same amount of time it takes us to listen to it. Incredible. Also, interesting to note that as he was a blind child, Stevie's school counselors suggested basket weaving for him as a profession, thinking there was little else he'd be able to do. Amazing. But then no more amazing than the fact that Decca records auditioned the Beatles in 1962 and rejected them.
@@maryk446 Thankyou. Very cool.
Stevie Wonder was/is a giant in the music industry. I remember when he was "Little Stevie Wonder" at 13 and had his "Fingertips Part 2" hit.
The full Fingertips track is a banger.
Great beginning!
Stevie Wonder was the glue of MoTown records for years . I love when he growls and I love the way he almost makes monotony of all the BS in the world then kicks it up when he is talking about solutions to the situation...Change starts with me, attitude. Thanks, love this song and your reaction.
The first album I bought. So damn good. At 60, I still revisit Innervisions regularly. You are right at the threshold of a Stevie journey that will last for years. IMHO the best single artist of our time..best of travels to you both!
same age; same sentiments.
One of my favorite songs by Stevie Wonder is "I Wish". You will love it.
Living For The City - Stevie Wonder - 1973
Hey guys, you may as well start at the beginning. "Fingertips" is performed by "Little Stevie Wonder" as he was then known. He's 12 and plays harmonica and bongos. Recorded live in 1962. 'nuff said.
You can never go wrong with Stevie Wonder. One of the greatest musicians of all times.
Omg! I think You guys are REALLY going to love this. Stevie is magical and is a talent like no other! Can’t wait to see your reaction! There is no 70’s without Stevie Wonder
Living For The City, Sir Duke, As.....all superb. It’s ridiculous how much talent one person can have!
Stevie Wonder is genius. Every song on of Innervisions is incredible and essential. The run of albums from Music of my Mind > Songs in the Key is virtually unparalleled in music
I remember the Beach Party movies [as a kid] in the '60's (lol) and the beginning credits had "And Introducing Little Stevie Wonder" in one of those surf flix. I think he was 14. Been go going ever since.
I remember!
Jumping on this early, the next Stevie Wonder song should be I Wish...
Yes, yes, yes! The bass and horn section are insane.
YESSSSS
Makes me smile everytime..
Stevie Wonder played all of the instruments on this song, including the handclaps.
The ‘sound’ is a synth patch that is now added to most synthesizers called the ‘Stevie Wonder Clavichord’. He has that much influence on others. So amazing.
Do “Living For The City,” the long version, off the same album.
Yes! The long version.
Try "Living For The City," "Sir Duke," "Too High," "Golden Lady," "I Wish."
“Too High” - great call
"Golden Lady"!!!!!
Master blaster!
The Red Hot Chili Peppers did a banger remake of this.
but not as good as this version.
@@69zenos1 I don't know, Frusciante did this song such serious justice he might have actually elevated it a step.
@@Guy_de_Loimbard John Frusciante is literally a guitar God in my eyes, he was just a baby when they did this cover & has gotten better with each album. Hard to improve on perfection but he has !!!
Came here to say this.
@@Guy_de_Loimbard their version is good but the original is usually better. I mean, it is clean and not all mucked up with. Newer bands tend to feel that they have to fill every empty hole with something.
''Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing'' and ''Golden Lady'' have gotta be up there too for sure.
signed: the dolphins off the starboard bow.
Stevie Wonder is in a class almost all by himself. There is no other singer like him. He is in the top tier of recording artists along with The Beatles, and Elvis. They are above all others, having hit after hit of amazing quality. IMHO.
My friend was in a restaurant once when he and his entourage came in...she said the whole atmosphere changed...like a huge wave of positive consciousness. Electric.
Living for the city is kicking you could even go back to signed, sealed, delivered i think that was his first hit. Sly and the Family Stone are amazing.
Stevie's first hit was a song called "Fingertips, Part 2" - it was a live song he did in 1963 when he was 12 years old and billed as "Little Stevie Wonder.
Listened to this album over and over. My favorite Stevie Wonder album - believe it is his masterpiece.
Stevie is THE Man. Living For the City or I Wish next! The latters lyrics will crack you up.❤🎵
Have to do Livin for The City ..one of the greatest songs ever...Sir Duke a minor Stevie song.....”AS” an amazing song too
"'For Once In My Life", "Ribbon in the Sky", "Lately", "Superwoman", "My Cherie Amour", "Master Blaster" (Jammin). I could go on and on. He's been doing it since 1963 ("Uptight"). A true American musical legend/treasure. Saw him live twice. In the 70s and sometime in the late 80s under the stars and the Chicago skyline at Grant Park. And wow what an amazing concert that was, with nearly perfect sound that would rival any venue in the area. A standing room only field of tens of thousands of music lovers from every section of the city suburbs and country just groovin' to some Stevie. He must have done half his catalogue which is pretty extensive. One of those perfect nights. 💗 ✨
I think my favorite Stevie Wonder song is "Living For The City". I get goose bumpy just thinking about it.
Next song, same album:
Living For The City.
Wow!
Thanks for playing Stevie.
Hip funk with Drums and very meaningful lyrics AND the best soul voice ever.
First class. The album ranks for me as one of the greatest of all times. Next songs to listen to: I Wish, Living for the City, and As.
The Isley Brothers "Who's That Lady" ...great guitar solo
The guitar's phasing being mostly in the higher frequencies is really cool and fitting for the song itself.
Yep yep yep!!
Ernie Isley is a god
What about the guitar in "Voyage to Atlantis" though! (Both are great!)
@@Skeezer66 gorgeous. I must have listened to this last week about five times in a row. That guitar literally takes your soul away.
“Livin’ For The City” would be great to do next.
Whenever I'm asked who my favourite singer is, and there have so many great ones, it's always Stevie.
Stevie Wonder was such a phenomenal talent...a musical prodigy as a kid, he was a multi-instrumentalist as well as a gifted writer and vocalist. He could sing pop songs with a silky smooth voice, or bring the growl and the grit when singing funk. Like Marvin Gaye, he was equally adept writing love songs or social commentary. Living for the City (gotta be the long version) is a must. You Haven't done Nothin', I Wish, and Sir Duke are also standouts, but there are a bunch of 'em. Keep 'em coming!
This is great, but yeah, still gotta do 'Livin For the City', 'Sir Duke', and more.
Man I wish I could have been here for the live show! Anyway, just wanted to say I think Living for the City should be the next song. Great message in it. Peace and love!
"Sir Duke" next. No poll necessary. Nathan Watts' bass is the only thing that can keep up with Stevie's left hand. He even plays along with the horn lines. It's a must listen.
A true musical legend, great song. He started out as Little Stevie Wonder and was known as a harmonica prodigy, try "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours), or "Sunshine of my Life."
Stevie Wonder has been performing since he was a kid. He was Little Stevie Wonder for a time, Icon status. 🤘
"When you have musicians of that calibre..." You mean musician. Singular. Stevie plays everything on this track...all instruments. That's how this artist rolls. Now listen to it again knowing this.
Oh my goodness. Stevie is the King. There’s a rabbit hole here and you MUST keep going. You need to hit the old school Motown records when he was young too. There’s a lot to unpack with Stevie. My personal favorite is “I was made to love her.” “Living for the City” is another of my favorites but the truth is, there are too many to choose from.
you definitely need to do Sir Duke. it's more interesting harmonically, but still super funky.
I had a teacher who was at Woodstock. He said it was the rainiest, coldest, muddiest, shittiest camping weekend of his life. Just when he was ready to pack it in, Sly and the Family Stone came on the stage. Needless to say he stayed. That's why you need to do Everyday People. Great job guys!
Little Stevie Wonder debuted on the charts with FINGERTIPS at the tender age 14, one of Barry Gordys' stable at Motown. He was all over the radio for 25 years, wrote all his material, and played ALL the instruments on his records. Top ten artist in the second half of the 20th Century.
I vote for “Living for the City”. I’d love to hear your thoughts on the production work on the non-instrumental stuff...
Bought Music of my Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Songs in the Key of Life and Hotter than July when they were released in the 70s and early 80s. SW, like Steve Winwood is a legend and musical genius!
An unprecedented run of masterpieces for Stevie in the 70s.
Stevie Wonder and Steve Winwood are like, musical identical twins, lol!!
My Cherie Amour, Living For The City, Isn’t She Lovely, You Are The Sunshine Of My Life, If You Really Love Me, Please Don’t Go, and my personal favorite, That Girl. Also look into Marvin Gaye for a similar artist.
@John Severson "Isn't She Lovely" has a great harmonica ending. The radio version cuts out most of it, though.
Excellent
Picking which Stevie Wonder song to play next is like asking to pick your favorite child and makes about as much sense as taking sand to the beach. Just play one. Stevie is a musical Mount Rushmore national treasure. The obstacles this man has avoided and conquered in his life and still “kept moving in the positive” is truly inspirational. Having said that, granted I haven’t seen all the comments and the songs thrown out there are all worthy but I didn’t see ‘Master Blaster’ but now I do.
Stevie Wonder six decades of greatness! everything is great from him! Gifted and shared the greatness. I remember hearing all the songs on the radio am and fm. Happy Birthday is for Martin Luther King another one to hear but aren't they all! Hes's Motown and much more! Such a talent, was gifted for all to hear! I am glad I got to hear it all! He is a legend your're blessed to have heard his songs.
Check out Parliament or Funkadelic if you’re feeling the funk grooves. Also the Red Hot Chili Peppers cover is a must. It’s from their fourth album in 1989. All 80’s peppers is dope. Keep Rockin!
dittos
...and Curtis Mayfield!
And Ohio Players big influence on the Chilis!! Love some funk 👍
One of the best SW songs...brilliance personified.
I've been playing the bass guitar for thirty years and I grew up in the church playing gospel music and in my opinion, Stevie wonder is the greatest musician, songwriter and singer of all time
"Don't You Worry "Bout A Thing", "If You Really Loved Me", "As", "Overjoyed", "Boogie On Reggae Woman". So, so many.
YES!!!! Do Some Sly! Literally ANYthing!
A classic with a great beat, a strong melody, great bass line and the voice of Stevie Wonder. Good choice gents and keep the classic hits coming. Cheers lads.
"Livin' for the City".."As".."Rocket Love".."Love's in need, of love today" "Knocks Me off my feet"..Just too many to mention!...Damn, I am just so glad I was born in his time!..To all you young people, who are just discovering him, just be glad for the same thing..You get to experience his genius!
"Isn't She Lovely?" is great, too. 👍
I second Jose Feliciano. So much class. Jeff Healey was another brilliant blind musician.
They need to react to at least one Jeff Healey.
@rexvisitor44 I remember buying Jeff Healey's cover of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" on cassette. I had never seen a single released on cassette til then. Don't know what happened to it though. I loved that song. I probably wore it out.
I saw Jose Feliciano live years age. He played 'Orange Blossom Special' and 'Purple Haze' - BACK TO BACK!
Nice start to this classic album... get to "Too High", "Golden Lady" and especially the full version of "Living for the City".
More Stevie please guys. He was God to me as a teenager in the 70's. Still is. To pluck out one track to recommend is impossible. His whole back catalogue of that period is fantastic.
I’m so jealous you get to listen to Stevie for the first time! The man released 5 absolutely perfect albums in a row (Music of My Mind, Talking Book, Innervisions, Fulfillingness’ First Finale, Songs in the Key of Life), all by the time he was 26. He played almost every instrument on all of them, and you’d be hard pressed to find a weak song. His 70s output is up there with the greatest music in recorded history. Excited to see what you pick next, you can’t go wrong.
Hey guys great hearing Stevie again...... Thanks for all the work you do to entertain us.... It doesn't go un-noticed. Looking forward to ALL BANGERS DECEMBER..... I CANT WAIT 🔥🔥🔥👍👍👍😁😁😁😜

Oh yes.. you dug it! Next one - Living for the City.
Living for the City. It grooves. It bangs. More importantly, it has a powerful political message that you can tell matters for Stevie. You were spot on with Higher Ground when you said Stevie is just grooving on top of the muic. He was -- and he was having fun. In Living for the City, you hear Stevie's passion in a more powerful way.
