I know I’m not the only pipe smoker in my town but it feels like it. My pipe community is on the internet. I have thought about hanging out at the Homeland Grocery tobacco counter to see who else buys the Carter Hall pouches beside me.
Here’s a poem by Malcom Guite that any pipe smoker will appreciate: Tolkien is leaning back into an oak Old, gnarled, distinct in bole and burr As, from the burr and bowl of his old pipe, Packed with tightly patterned shreds of leaf, The smoke ascends in rings and wreathes of air To catch the autumn light and meet such leaves As circle through its wreathes and patter down In patterns of their own to the rich ground. He contemplates again the tree of tales; The roots of language and its rings of growth ‘The tongue and tale and teller all coeval’ And he becomes a pattern making patterns, A tale telling tales and turning leaves, From the print of thumb and finger on his pipe To the print and press and pattern of his books And all their prints and imprints in our minds Out to this grainy patterned photograph Of ‘Tolkien, leaning back into an oak’.
I have been smoking a pipe for 5yrs. Between you guys & Muttonchop Piper I have learned many fascinating tips not just pipe smoking & tobacco reviews but the community aspect of this fabulous hobby. Thank you all for being there!
So nice to see all of you together! As you mentioned, many of us are solitary in our pipe smoking and your channels give us a way to enjoy this hobby together. please continue to produce content that encourages and broadens our horizons. Looking forward to seeing and smoking another bowl together. God Bless!
Hi, I'm from Ireland and just took up the pipe smoking hobby again after a long hiatus after my recent retirement, I'm 57. I began smoking the pipe when I lived in Germany in 1991. I returned to Ireland and put away my pipe paraphernalia on a high shelf in my garage. Meanwhile I got married and got on with life. So when I recently decided to get into pipe smoking again, (thanks to your videos to some extent) I realized that I had several ounces of various tobacco, mostly aromatics, which were now well over twenty years old. So I began smoking these and have to report that they taste really good to me. Thank you for your content and keep doing what you're doing Alan.
I really wish that I could have attended! However, I get the feeling that the future holds more opportunities for fellowship amongst our wonderful tribe!
I used to only smoke a pipe two or three times a year at most, until I am connected with YTPC. It’s had a major impact on me being a regular pipe hobbyist. I am new to the community by only five months.
It is good to see a tradition of well made pipe channels continuing here on youtube. A lot of the old pipe channels from 2008-2010s are gone....Pipelawyer, Joffre the Giant, PipefriendCHS...I even delated all of my pipe related content. I was told when I moved back to the US that if I had pipe related content I could be sued by parents for promoting tobacco to minors. (I am a teacher.) I had a lot of reviews of tobaccos that were not available in the US back in 2008-2010. I have all of the videos archived, but am afraid to post any of them. Keep making great content, fellas. Tokyopuffer/Greywolf
What a wonderful event for the pipe community. The fellowship looks wonderful. Great idea to capture this and upload to share with YTPC. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Alan, it was my great pleasure to meet and spend time with you and Patrick at the Briary! I would love to make the trip to the Squire one day. All the best, my friend! Hopefully, Southernpiper and I will be able to get our channel up and running before too long! Would love to keep in touch. Patrick, I hope you enjoyed the Marlin Flake! All the best, gentlemen. -Cory Wilson (Birmingham, AL)
Just an idea guys that has helped me connect with other pipe smokers, and of course I have a bit of an advantage in connecting up with great fellow pipe smokers because I have a brick and mortar location. but one of my great joys every month is on the 4th Saturday we have a local pipe club that meets just to get together, smoke a pipe or two and connect with others in the hobby. Even if it is a small group of 4 or 5 folks it does a lot to promote the hobby. We have informal events such as an annual slow smoke contest. (One of the wags in the club has also suggested a "fast smoke" event but I recommended that event could cause a lot of over heated tongues and burned out bowls). Anyway an informal gathering on a regular date is a great way to promote the hobby which, having been a promoter of said hobby for over 40 years, is dear to my heart. Keep puffin.
Thank you three for your comments and contributions! All interesting and appreciated. Please keep it up. I believe that the YTPC is very important to dispel falsehoods about pipe smoking and encouraging pipe smokers of whatever experience. It is referred to as a hobby, but I simply think of pipe smoking as part of my everyday experience and pleasure. (I'm old enough to remember when it was common). If I were to encourage some approach for the future it would be to keep doing what we are doing as regards on-line content, but also to take pipe smoking out into the community, the mountains, the seashore or wherever. It's time to venture out of the cellar, the garage or barn. Sure, we are bound to get questions and negative comments in today's society. But people will see us enjoying pipes and slowly question the received orthodoxy and propaganda. I bet they'll enjoy the odor too!
Well done, gentlemen! The pipe community has come a long way from just reading Pipes & Tobacco Magazines in the late 90’s. Enjoy your time together - it is important.
I am mid 30's, i don't like or use any social media and I smoke in a country with 1 pipe store that, which is being threatened. It is incredibly rough/sad. You hit the nail on the head, i feel like the only pipe smoker in the world :( I love my solitude and private time for thought and introspection with a warm bowl in my hand... however I would like not to feel so alone :(
I've been waiting and hoping for a video from you and your visit to the Country Squire in Jackson Mississippi! Great video as always and thoroughly enjoyed. I guess you could call me a old codger at 62, but I enjoy watching all three of you young men on CZcams. Keep the video's coming fella's! What a GREAT community of pipe smoking folks.
Thank you for doing this podcast and bringing the Country Squire into my home. Up until now, I was not aware of the Pipe Nook and will definitely check it out. I have been following both your channel and The Spurgeon Piper for a year now and have enjoyed the shows. As always, keep up the good work.
You 3 are all amazing people I wish there was something closer that I could attend and possibly meet you guys but I'm up in Northern Washington and there isn't even a pipe shop within 80 miles of me so I am always very eager and excited when any of you post a video. And just to help level out those numbers I'm 42 and just picked the pipe back up in December.
Just joined the pipe hobby at 32. Never smoked before but I’m loving it. My own country treats tobacco like cocaine! It’s very difficult to talk to people to learn about the hobby. Lots of specialist shops have disappeared so I’m super greatful for these videos
Awesome, awesome, just plain awesome video. Thank you gentlemen. Thank you for all your content and for all your inspirations. This is a great community. It was a pleasure and true enjoyment to listen all three of you. Thank you.
I have been smoking cigars for about a year. I absolutely love sitting on my porch and enjoying a good smoke. I had never considered smoking a pipe until my grandmother asked me if I also smoked pipes, because my grandfather smoked pipes and she would like to give me his old pipes. So I have been decided to give it a try. I’ve been soaking up all the pipe content I can find and I have some tobacco on the way as we speak, including the blend my grandfather always smoked ( Borkum Riff original) looking forward to lighting my first pipe. Thank you gentlemen for the guidance I’ve gotten on my new journey.
Yall are having too much fun I wanna to do just that hope the good lord will let me meet all of yall. could meet in NE Ga God bless all of you Keep on Smoking from the peach state
Sounds like you boys had a high time! God bless you. I think the path that a lot of you are taking with your pipe-oriented channels is a good one. The pipesmoking aspect of your video output serves as a tremendous springboard into contemplation, philosophical discussions, and general lifestyle topics. There are only so many how-tos and top 10s that you can make before an online hobby community is burnt out… It’s the daily life reflections and discussions that keep a community such as this alive.
Around the 17min mark the gentleman speak of their audience and their ages. By that knowledge and the assumption that the majority of the viewers are male coupled with the sort of character and worldviews these men hold (atleast from what I can assess), its clear to me that younger men may be seeking after something more than just tobacco content.. Now we can of course get off in the weeds of the why (my guess is the lack of masculine, faithful, interesting, and capable fathers in the homes) but it was just a interesting thought that came to me as I listened and figured I’d share (you know sharing is caring and all that :) ) either way thank you for the content!
George Bruno introduced me to both Eddie (from whom I purchase all my pipes and supplies) and Alan (from whom I receive great life coaching and contemplation). Great to see you guys together!
Nice discussion. Back in 1977 at the local drugstore I saw a set of white bowl pipes that had the Olympic rings on it. They were made as a momento of the 1976 Olympics. They looked nice. I can't find any pictures of them on the internet. I would appreciate any information on (Olympic smoking pipes).
To start, thank you for your time and sharing of our passion for the leaf, it's the binder that keeps us engaged with each other, others may not understand, that's ok, this content invites you to share our thoughts, are passions, are likes and dislikes, we need more brick and mortar places to gather for all of us to get together and enjoy the fellowship of each other. Keep the content alive!
Actually called trying to find out when they will be releasing "fine then" ... wonderful blend! You always wonder when you meet the people you watch if they are the same in person. I can definitively say that you three were wonderful to meet and get to know and I would have loved to stay longer and visit. Alan, only a friend is willing to part with the "good bourbon" and I thank you for the bourbon sir!
Great video fellas. Would love to take a trip to Mississippi. Let the wife do a bit of shopping while I spent a few hours at The Country Squire. Seems like a lovely vacation for a few days from Southern Ohio... 🔥💨💨💨
As a touch of irony. I live in Alberta Canada 🇨🇦, its currently-°8f and the tobacco i was smoking last night is called "Mr B's Canadian Winter" 🤣 It was not planned just happened that way
I’d love to hear Spurgeon Piper integrate his faith into the pipe conversation more. As a church pastor, he holds an interesting combination of perspectives and I feel like there could be a valuable perspective if they overlapped in his content more.
Thank you, gentlemen for the amazing video. I just stumbled upon your channel and would like to get into the hobby. I have no idea where to start however. I’m based in South Africa 🇿🇦 and I doubt we have these products here. Any help would be appreciated
Is there anywhere where I can find an "old school" tobacco shop directory? Every time I try and search for them online I get bombarded by all the vape stores. Thanks!
That’s awesome! Those are two gentlemen that I’ve come to really appreciate and have watched many of their videos! Thank you!
What a great discussion with three of the first people I found on youtube on my new pipe journey.
Always a pleasure boys.

Gentlemen thank you. I am not in your stated demographic... 66 started smoking a pipe in 1975. I enjoy all three of you. Thanks again.
Good stuff guys . Thank for bringing up matches and mutton they are the salt of the earth as you are .
I have been smoking a pipe for 5yrs. Between you guys & Muttonchop Piper I have learned many fascinating tips not just pipe smoking & tobacco reviews but the community aspect of this fabulous hobby. Thank you all for being there!
Thank you all so much for coming! We were very honored by your presence.
It was so good to spend time with the two of you this weekend! I hope we can do it again sometime soon.
Awesome! Wish I could have made it.
If I had not had to study I would have been there.😢
Very cool great to see you guys all of you God bless

Watched on my tv while sipping some whiskey. Now going outside in -10°f to smoke my tobacco pipe.
Thanks for the great show
Cheers 🍻

I miss living there in Clinton hate that I wasn’t able to make the trip. Looking forward to Muletown 😊
Spot on Wilson! A community driven by more than just what you smoke and what you smoke it in!

Good to see the three of you together, thanks to all for the content and community you provide.

Saw you guys up there at the 500th episode, but never got the chance to introduce myself and say hello. Glad you guys were able to make it though.
WOW, it was nice to see three of my favorite presenters able to get together. Ed
Wonderful video !

Excellent interview with three staples of this community. I appreciate what each of you bring to the table!
So glad to watch you three gentlemen together! Enjoy all your videos!
Nice to see you guys together and hear your thoughts. I subscribe to each of you. Wholeheartedly agree-YTPC is an indispensable community.

Though maybe you would do something on your trip. Good to see Wilson with you. I haven't seen Eddie before. Be careful.
Why, is Eddie a loose cannon?
It's really good to see you three together. I am grateful for the content you all three put out. Thank you!

Anyone else notice the "pipe sit" every pipe smoker does? Or is it just me? Haha even I as a pipe smoker do it from time to time
I would prefer to call pipe smoking a lifestyle rather than a hobby.
Thank you, gentlemen for the amazing video. I just stumbled upon your channel and would like to get into the hobby. I have no idea where to start however. I’m based in South Africa 🇿🇦 and I doubt we have these products here. Any help would be appreciated
