    Eddie filtered out the junk for all the things he sells. Pun intended. Support this awesome small business. You’ll need a good knife to open his perfectly packet shipments.

    Thank's for the information. I've been trying to find a way to smoke non-filtered pipes for 2 years. Tried everything I could. Went through testing smoking basics over and over again to find out what's the problem with my way of smoking, that I get chemical burn. This is not kind of talks you can hear in smoking communities often. So this video was so helpful for me. I'll stop fighting and continue to smoke filtered only. Thank you both!

    My go to is always the balsa filters. I love the idea that it’s just made of wood, doesn’t change the taste, just takes a little bit of the edge off.

    As a beginner filters were good because it kept me from getting a tongue bite or bitter flavor from smoking too hot or too fast. Still use them sometimes depending on the tobacco

    Wanted to chime in: the 9mm peterson filters are a few milimeters longer than 9mm Dr. Perl. If you don't use filter in a pipe because it blocks it and you are using a peterson, get a perl and it should be solved. I had this issue with a Vauen pipe

    Thank you for coming together and making this video. I am a new smoker and I bought a Morgan Pipes Lil" Bill Mini Billiard un-filtered pipe. I also purchased a Molina Barasso Billiard pipe that came with a 9mm filter. So I was a little confused about which way to go. Thank you for all the information.

    I'm late to the party, but I thought I'd chime in. Redcoats return is a UK based pipe smoker, and he has a couple videos going very in depth about filter types, sizes, contents, differences in actual diameter, and just about every other metric you can think of. If you are interested in more details about filters, check out his channel. Have a happy and safe New Year

    Just wanted to thank you for introducing me to pipe nook I'd seen a few of his videos in passing. Most reviewers don't seem to know as much as they think, but Eddie does. One of my favorites other than you is Hobbiton Piper Kevin is really good. Have you ever tried Edward G Robinson it's awesome if you haven't try it out .

    I use homemade balsa filters (so I can custom fit them in any pipe I want). I also build model rockets so I have more "scrap balsa" than I know what to do with.

    I find so many benefits personally when I use filters (meerschaum, or active carbon). It is almost impossible for me to get a tongue bite with filters and the smoke is way smoother. Also, I find that there are fewer re-lights needed, especially if I clench the pipe and hold it in my mouth exclusively. Probably because some of the moisture that comes from my breath back in the bowl is trapped by the filter. So the only slight downside with these filters is that it does take some flavour away but it`s really not an issue for me...taste buds do adjust over time and you`d get more sensitive to subtle notes in the baccie even with the filter. When it comes to aromatics filter is something I would never miss... there`s so much flavour there anyway and removing some of the sharp edges from the steamy topping is always welcome. Also, good to keep one or two unfiltered pipes to BBQ baccie that offers more delicate flavor notes.

    • @lazyharpo
      @lazyharpo Před 8 měsíci +1

      I have tried WE meerschaum granulated, Nording keystones and denicool filter crystals. I don't think any of them retain much moisture, but they create better airflow at the bottom of the pipe that helps keep moisture gathering down there.
      They are good if you want to reduce waste tobacco and dottle.
      The sharrow philt chalk pads seem to attract more moisture.
      I stopped using them as it is an inconvenience after a while.
      Peterson system pipe works great for trapping moisture before going into the stem.

    I actually don't like vauen style charcoal filters, cause it takes most of floral taste, grassy, tangy taste of it.
    But I've cursed with my naturally excessive saliva, non filter pipes always gurgling so bad.
    With trial and error, savinelli balsa wood filter saves my piping.
    This is just a random guy's opinion. What I want to tell is, try and find which one is suit best for you.

    I bought an Amorelli pipe in Switzerland a number of years ago and it has a spacer in it. I can’t tell what size of filter it takes. Are 9mm filters exactly 9mm or are they a tad smaller? I measured the inner diameter of my bit with my caliper and it comes in at 8.54mm and the spacer is 8.5mm. I want to try a filter since I have discovered some tobaccos that bite me despite my best efforts.

    The Brigham pipe wood filter ALWAYS stick for me... pain in the rear. I do use 9mm filters on a pipe i use for aromatics and the filter does help with wetness for me... i live in the tropics and i feel there is a lot more mostiure than you would find in the states.

    The problem with charcoal filter is reducing of flavour, at least for me often it maked tobacco flavour kind of dull.
    I have tried meerschaum filters and in my opinion those are really good.
    Meerschaum filters mitigate tongue bite and at the same time won't sacrifice tobacco flavour.
    Just give it a try.

    • @austinpauxtataux8349
      @austinpauxtataux8349 Před 6 měsíci

      How does that compare with smoking out of a meerschaum pipe?

    • @snappertiger
      @snappertiger Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@austinpauxtataux8349
      Meerschaum filter is not comparable with meerschaum pipe.
      Meerschaum filter is like charcoal filter but instead of charcoal particle there are some grams of small meerschaum particle.
      Meerschaum filter doesn't absorb moisture as much as charcoal filter but from other side it sacrifices less flavor.
      For me the best thing which eliminates tongue bites are Nording Keystone which i always put about five of them at the bottom of the bowl.

    • @thepipesmoker5803

      Its sounds like you may need to dry out your tobacco a longer time period before smoking. Especially if you smoke aromatic blends. But drying time may be the key on your behalf.

    So far, for me, pipe filters have made the flavour bland and unrecognizable. It tastes like a cigarette. And this comes from a frequent pipe smoker that switched from cigarettes to smoking a pipe (i know many say you shouldnt switch an addiction for another, but pipes have helped me. The ritualistic and deliberate aspect of pipe smoking has made me smoke way less. From a pack a day to two bowls a day its a serious step down, and no, im not one of those "i inhale my pipe" weirdos.)

    • @mercster
      @mercster Před 4 měsíci +2

      Maybe the reason you can't taste tobacco with the filter is because you just came off a pack a day habit and still smoke pipe "heavily"? I used to smoke two packs a day as well, but I quit 15 years ago or so. My sense of taste came back... I use a 9mm charcoal filter and the loss of taste is negligible. The drier and smoother smoke is worth it for me.
